Today TWE had a Thanksgiving party for students . Our granddaughter is in 4th grade .WOW what a disappointment. 1) teacher was absent .. had a sub 2) 71 year old grandfather had to STAND for 1 hour .. no chairs provided 3) Only students were given snacks . I am a retired teacher …35 years total …25 in elementary. This is awful .Test scores might be great but personal relations with parents / grandparents are terrible.

We started this school at the beginning of the 2016/17yr. Before school even started we had issues with being told one thing only to be told something completely different later, about stuff I had repeatedly asked for clarification, was guaranteed it was one way only to be told later it wasn't. I chose this school based on the other reviews & other research. I haven't completely made up my mind about this school or if we will be returning next year. The curriculum moves incredibly fast, no time for kids to absorb concepts & for the upper grades most of their assignments are done thru various apps. I'm curious to see how the standardized testing is handled. I will say the teachers my kids have do seem engaged & respond quickly to any questions/concerns. But it seems a lot of teachers are pretty rude to the kids right off the bat instead of trying to find out what is going on then being stern if necessary. I had to step in once b/c a staff member started yelling at my kids b/c they were "walking the wrong direction" on the sidewalk even though other kids were walking the same direction, when I approached & told her why they were going that way her attitude changed instantly to super nice. My older kid is stressed out about going to school b/c the teachers can be rude, save for a handful, & the kids are just awful, they are mean, rude, cuss in class w/o any reprimand. There was also a girl fight in PE & no one was sent to the office. I think the way an additional kinder class was added was handled very poorly, its something that should of happened before school even started but it seems the principal is a "her way or the highway" kind administrator. The front office staff is cordial. The librarian is fun but the kids only get 15-20min to check out books. Parent volunteers & the PTA are great. There are a LOT of fundraisers, at least this semester, hopefully fewer next semester. Lastly, more of a district thing, but the only break the kids have had so far was the 3 days @ Thanksgiving, even when charter schools w/in the district & surrounding districts had a day off KISD did not, it has made for a long semester. Also, 15 minutes for recess is way too short, by the time the kids get lined up to go out & then the time it takes to line up to go in, leaves very little time to play/socialize. If I think about it I will update my review at the end of the school year.

Love, love, love TWE! Students are happy, confident, and engaged learners. All academic needs are met and role models can be found down every hall or around every corner. Great school!

As parents of three children who attend TWE, we could not be happier with what this school community has to offer. Each of our children have different strengths, weaknesses, and interests, but each are thriving at TWE. Our faculty does an amazing job of connecting with students and encouraging them to be all that they can be. Our administration is thoughtful, understanding the importance of keeping our children safe, but also welcoming ,allowing and encouraging lots of parent involvement. Our parents are engaged, actively supporting our children, one another and the staff of TWE. Our family feels blessed to be a part of TWE and confident that our children are receiving the best KISD has to offer!

It is very sad that the colored kids and families are discriminated by teachers who educate the kids and teach them good and bad! When a teacher doesn't like your child, the kids will know but if the parents also have a similar experience that says a lot about the culture in the School. This is the 2nd year in a row that my kid have faced discrimination from the teachers. I didn't believe until I have experienced the same from them. Fortunately, the discrimination didn't impact my kid's grades but he/she is left with a negative experience of discrimination at a very young age.

The school and teachers are wonderful. They are very concerned about the students both in their academics as well as their wellbeing. I have had great experiences with the teachers even when my child was starting to run into problems. First and foremost they want to make sure that the children have the tools that they need to succeed. The front office staff always does their very best to deal with anything that arises, and I have seen them be amazingly patient with some pretty irate and unreasonable parents on more than one occasion.

My husband and I are very pleased with the school administration and the teachers. They have similar approach to discipline and education as we do at home. Loving, caring, but strict when it comes to rules and following those rules. Teachers are willing to work with parents when problems arise... so far very happy with the school!

The teachers are great and the volunteers help a lot but the staffs at front office need to learn some people skills. I've seen most of them being very unhelpful to parents, especially the non-white parents. They get angry at parents even if they forget kids homework or lunch and come to drop it off once a year. The staff is not willing to walk down and help the kids or parents. They have made their own rules for several other things so that they have to work less with parents. Even colored volunteers are unappreciated. I hope kids don't get the same treatment. My 4 star is based on my kids performance and their teachers. I would give one star to front office staff for show off and rudeness to parents.

I also have a 2nd and 4th grader. My kids absolutely love the school. They liked their teachers last school year, and they are enjoying their teachers this school year. My husband and I are pleased with the faculty and staff.

Tom Wilson although beautiful physically with some good teachers overall the school is terrible. The office staff/principal/asst principals care more about test scores and "appearances" than the well being of kids they are also overall extremely difficult to work with. If your child has any special needs or needs an additional assistance be prepared to fight to get it, and you still may not get it. Also, be prepared for the fact that they do not seem to know what they are doing. They have had an extreme amount of turnover among teachers and this is only their second year. Overall I feel as though my child is not safe at this school both mentally or physically (if someone gets hurt their policies are ridiculous, they would rather brush you off then do the responsible thing). There are a lot of parents who are supportive of this school and work hard to make it better which is the only positive thing this school has going for it. If it wasn't for them constantly doing damage control I think there would be more people talking about the significant issues at the school. This is the only school in KISD that I consistently hear bad things about. Wish we were at any other kisd school

It's a great school. My kid moved from Griffin to this school due to rezoning, and I was worried. But my kid loved it the whole year. Can read all chapter books in grade 1 itself. Loved the motivating environment there.

This school maybe new and looks pretty, but if your child has any difficulties, forget getting responsive and empathetic help. They try to fob you off as long as they can and make every step of trying to get help difficult. Very, very rough year at the school ...very disappointed in the administrative staff - they are sticklers for "the book" even if to the detriment of your child. We are excited to be going to a new school next year!!!
