This is my sons third year at Arrowwood. (2 years preschool and now in kindergarten) he is hard of hearing and autistic. The preschool teachers are too good for this world (especially Shannon Slucter) and the SSN program is incredible (ran by Brittni Melius, who is amazing) I feel confident he is in good hands everyday.

The teachers are excellent, my 9 year old attends this school and I have seen her excel by leaps and bounds while attending Arrowwood. The classrooms are very focused on emotional awareness and development and creating a comfortable environment for social and academic learning. I highly recommend this school.

We moved to the neighborhood last summer, so this will be our 2nd year at Arrowwood. We love the teachers, staff and the overall “feel” of the school. Both of our girls have greatly improved their reading and math skills over the past year and they especially loved their PE, music, art and STEAM classes. The staff also do a great job fostering a sense of community by hosting engaging events like Ninja Nation, Halloween Trunk or Treat, and Field Day (to name a few). The school-wide incentive program rewards students when they display positive behavior like respect, responsibility, acting safely and owning their actions. We also appreciate Principal Wood’s and Vice Principal Harvey’s enthusiasm, commitment, and leadership. We’re very much looking forward to the 2022-2023 school year :)

As a former educator with a master’s degree in education, I have nothing but good things to say about this school. I have 1 child in the elementary part of the school and 1 child in the preschool section. The principals truly care about the kids and promote a positive environment for both staff and students. The teachers work hard, go above and beyond, and make the kids feel loved. My kids love this school. They both have had huge gains academically and emotionally since starting. We are very happy with this school and highly recommend it to any and all.

Arrowwood is truly a hidden gem. You know when you love something so much that you don’t want to tell everyone because you want to keep it all to yourself? That is how I feel about this school. Most of my neighbors‘ children do not attend this school because they have heard it has a negative reputation, and I get wanting to give the best for your kids. That negative reputation came from years ago, before we ever started there when there was a few years of high Principal turnover. That has not been the case for many, many years. Both my children are in the gifted program and get pushed to stretch their learning. My 4th grader tested for 7th grade reading on his last test scores. All this to say, we could go anywhere, but my kids excel academically, have a great social life because they know every kid in their grade being that it is a smaller school, and I have made lifelong friends with Arrowwood Parents. The current principal cares more and will do more for those students than any other principal I know. So if you live in the area, do yourself a favor and check it out...or don’t and I will keep it as the best kept secret we have!

We have had 3 children there through 4-5 principals, and ended up with Linda Chadrick, who has changed the school for the better. She is a great leader, and teachers seem to love her. We also have a child on the autism spectrum, and the teachers and specialists are great, and he has grown so much. His outside therapist has suggested we not move him even if we have to move, because he has such a great support system at Arrowwood. I can’t think of a better gauge of how good a school is for my children.

Both of my kids attended Arrowwood Elementary School since Kindergarten and had a wonderful experience. They are both very different and the school was able to cater to each of them and their different learning styles. Overall, Arrowwood is an excellent school. The principal is readily available and takes action on perceived problems. The school values diversity and growth.

The staff and teachers are excellent. It is a smaller school and we feel very connected. The principal is amazing and we've had such a great experience at Arrowwood!!

Words cannot express how much I love this school! I have two children that started at Arrowwood in the 3rd grade when we moved into the neighborhood over the summer. Linda Chadrick and Francesca Wilder were new administration at the school last year and did an amazing job. I was nervous as I had read negative reviews and we came from a school where both children had very bad experiences with teachers and staff. When we toured the school the kids said the school "felt right". There is a diversity in the students including hard of hearing programs and students with disabilities that my children were never exposed to at their previous school and I appreciate that. My kids are challenging and we went through a lot of growing pains in our first year there. The entire staff there was beyond supportive and were genuinely invested in helping them succeed. They are excited to return this year and I am grateful we have two more years at Arrowwood before moving on to middle school.

I am a former teacher, so I consider myself critical (picky?) about education. My son is in kindergarten now at Arrowwood and we love it! The class size is small, and I love that he is being challenged. He started the year already knowing how to read, but they continue to push him at his own level. I volunteer weekly and have been nothing but impressed with the new principal and office staff. I know every school has its ups and downs and living close to the school, we have heard about many of them. But we are living our experience so far!

I had to pull my daughter out of this school prior to 6th grade because of the teachers. This is one of the worst schools in DCSD, in my opinion. I had two children go through here and could not take it anymore. A very a bad experience. I make sure to tell all my friends and coworkers.

Was a parent for 3 years at Arrowwood. Terrible experiences with the administration, many poor teachers, no individualized instruction offered, just educational jargon. Stay away!

I agree with the last comment, dated August 3, 2011. Arrowwood's policy toward bullying seems to be to try to reform the bully instead of protecting the victims. I wish we could have gotten our child into a charter school instead.

Our family LOVES Arrowwood! The teachers are fantastic! They offer many clubs for all grades, online reading, writing and math programs to supplement the curriculum. Many community activities and a strong PTCO. My son experienced a situation with bullying, once the teachers were aware - they took care of it and even the principal stepped in and set things straight. No tolerance for bullies at AWE. Both my children are above grade level in some areas and they are continually challenged to increase their knowledge. AWE is AWEsome!

My children have been at AWE for four years. I now have a kindie there too. I disagree with the bullying, bad language and not helping your child excel. I am in the school volunteering often and don't see that and my children are very open with my husband and me. They state how bullying isn't tolerated. My oldest son is very smart and they push him incredibly. He's in extra activities to make sure he's excelling. This school is great. I'm glad it goes to 6th grade because I feel it's protected my 6th grader from cursing, impurity and bullying that's everywhere in middle school now. I appreciate the extra clubs they have this year. Even for the youngest children.

Great school. Excellent teachers, excellent office staff. The new principal, especially, is a huge asset to the school. We love our neighborhood school!

My kids and I love this school! Do your own research - the test scores are not poor, bullying is not tollerated, Douglas county schools have opened enrollment for all schools so of course, if there is room, they will accept students from other neighborhoods & districts - the school gets money based on the number of students. Great school - absolutely no regrets!
