My children attended JWES and they absolutely loved it, my son transferred to Cornerstone so they will be leaving but all in all we are huge fans. Go Giraffes!

This year was our first experience with Jesse Wharton. Our son started kindergarten this year and it has been a really great experience for us. He is excelling in reading and loves going to school every day. Couldn't ask for more!

Each year (we just finished 4th grade) we wonder if our run of extraordinary teachers will come to an end. Thankfully, this year has been the best yet. Our son, when asked how his day was, doesn't give the noncommittal "fine" - he says "awesome!" and he means it. Despite challenges, as a result of draconian state budgetary practices, Jess Wharton continues to make students feel "awesome" about school. That's practically magic. With regard to the "scores" - keep in mind the complete realignment of grading and measures that was handed down from Raleigh. It artificially represents some kind of knowledge/instructional drop off, which certainly has not occurred. Just an accounting blip. This is a neighborhood school energetically supported by its families, and one that manages, against the odds to graduate students who are well prepared, enthusiastic about learning and so happy to have been at Jesse Wharton.

I absolutely adore Jesse Wharton Elementary School. Teachers and staff are amazing, caring, inspiring, and go the extra mile for all of the children. My kindergartener and 3rd grader have excelled and have had wonderful experiences at this school. There is a very strong PTA and parent involvement, lots of fun after school activities as well as a strong community feel. I couldn't recommend this great neighborhood school enough.

I have 2 children at Jesse Wharton and we have been extremely happy with the school. I have been amazed at the academic advancement of both of my children and their growing love of learning. I have found that the teachers really do identify and develop each child's individual strengths which has built self-confidence in both of my boys. The principal, teachers, and staff do an excellent job of teaching academics, providing enrichment activities for the children, and developing good character in these kids. I cannot say enough good things about the environment at this school. It is a happy, fun, well-established school with proven success. I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jesse Wharton is setting my boys up for success.

We are finishing up Kindergarten and couldn't be happier with our neighborhood school Jesse Wharton Elementary School. JWES is a great community and I feel like teachers, other parents, and staff are all my partners in giving my son an amazing experience. I am so impressed with the individual attention that each child receives by the teachers and teacher aids. Each child's abilities and hurdles are recognized and addressed so that each child gets what they need. I volunteer weekly in the classroom and I see this happen everytime I am there! The school spirit is so strong and activities are held all the time including movie nights, festivals, book fairs--and so many families get involved. We can't wait for 1st Grade!

My daughter attended JWES for 5 years. I would say it is average, at best. I believe your child's school year ultimately depends on 1. the leadership of the administration, and 2. her specific teacher. I will describe these 2 areas in regards to JW. Leadership: the current princ has been there only a couple years. She is nice when approached, responds fairly quickly to emails but overall seems a bit unattached and "hands off". The VP, in my opinion, is not very nice to the children. I have observed her being quite condescending. Leadership is average if not slightly below. Teachers: I am unfortunatly jaded by the public school system, in general. I think most schools struggle to find and keep great teachers. Out of my child's entire elem school career, she had one outstanding teacher at JWES (4th grade-McCormick). (If counting "specials" teachers, she had 2 outstanding teachers total-Music teach. is great.) The rest of them were very average; focusing mostly on EOG scores and quite rigid in their expectations of the children. Overall JW gets 3 stars from me. Safe school, nice location, diverse population, average admin, average teachers

Unbelievable care for quality and integrity here at Jesse Wharton! My daughter's Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Leggett, was phenomenal! My rising first-grader can READ BOOKS now and already has the concepts of multiplication in her head. Even though she has had problems with attention in the past, Mrs. Leggett didn't lose steam with us, keeping in good communication throughout the whole year. Come to find out, she was voted teacher of the year! The PTA is also very motivated - last year they had their first carnival! If you enjoy being active in your child's learning, this is the place for you!
