This Is my second year at NU and I absolutely love working here. The teaching staff is dedicated to not only the academic growth of students but also the mental well-being.

At the time I was attending, the principal was Dan Frisella. My entire reason for not recommending this high school is that they let someone like him become a principal. I had no issue with the gentlemen upon first attending. I was a new kid in town moving from a town that had a population similar to this school's entire amount of students.I had a lot of trouble adjusting to all the changes of moving, going to a large school and being disconnected from my old friends. I ended up missing a bit of school (not enough to even get behind in my classes) and was unaware that they had a system where you had to go into the office to get your absences checked off. Now- the part I find to this day very disappointing. They have a system where if you don't get your absences 'checked' at the office, you get detention. This detention will double everyday it goes unchecked. As a new student I was never told this at all. I got a letter or a note basically saying I had 100+ hours of detention + Saturday schools which is basically how the grounds of the campus keep from being completely over thrown by trash. People often times just throw their lunch trash wherever, so they require students in detention to keep it from piling up to much. Of course, I am not going to go to 100+ hours of detention for what I consider to be a medical leave when my mental health wasn't good, I was a new student unaware of their particular system for getting absences taken care of. Dan Frisella had a personal meeting with me in which he told me that I had to do the detentions or he was going to make sure I was put in juvenile hall. I honestly don't see how that is OK to tell someone who is under 18. It felt like a weird threat at a time, one that I was not use to receiving from someone so much older than me. When I was disappointed and annoyed with this he told me it seemed I 'had a problem with authority' when in reality I do not. I had a problem with him threatening my freedom over a very cruel punishment especially on a new student struggling with mental health. In retrospect I wish I had brought this issue up with my parents because I am not even sure if what he did was entirely legal, and if it was legal I still think it certainly was no way to treat a student, especially one with decent grades who helped out a ton with the school's program working with disabled kids.

Not an enjoyable one. The lack of proper leadership and the overall disregard for the students is very disappointing for a place that is supposed to be preparing kids for their futures.

This school has not been a delight to be at whatsoever. Not only are those running the organization completely incompetent at their jobs, but the majority of the teachers do not care about the future of the students, or how they will do in their lives after they graduate. Many teachers allow their students to run wild; allowing them to "go to the library" when in reality they are ditching to go hang out with their friends, smoke, or simply go home and waste valuable learning time.

I am very disappointed in the lack of communication and was completely ignored by the principal when I reached out for help. My child's freshmen year was wasted at this school.
