This school is like an outward bound program. Field trips were great . Not strong academically. Teachers are great. Administration is unfortunately ineffective. Despite its motto there is not a lot of emotional support to handle conflicts. The two men running the show would likely be more comfortable breaking up fist fights than dealing with the persistent girl drama - the result is that situations escalate at the expense of all the students. While conflict management is a challenge at all schools , the lack of emotional intelligence and just good instincts by the leadership can make it a pretty hostile environment for some of the students.

The best thing I did for my child was switch schools. Don't be fooled by the reputation, the younger grades are wonderful, but the higher grades need work. The principle and counselor need to replaced. Vice-principal is wonderful and should take over, which would solve many problems at this school. By the way the site it outdated the principal is no longer Mr. Martinez

The school works hard academically with many different learning opportunitys. The teachers and staff are amazing & love their job. They work very hard at supporting all the students.

Wow! This is my children's first year at GVCS and we could not be happier. The staff/student culture is fabulous, one of true mutual respect. The parents are very involved and kept informed every little step of the way. I feel like this is a family venture not just a another school.

My husband and I are so pleased with this school. We have a son who attends, and our daughter will soon be attending as well (starting kindergarten). The teachers and staff are incredible and the expeditionary learning is so incredibly valuable. I also appreciate the emphasis on building character which is pretty much completely left out of the curriculum at many schools. The dedication to the students being crew and not passengers in their educational journey gives the student a feeling of responsibility for their learning which is beneficial in so many ways. Lastly we love the school community. Incredibly dedicated parents who donate their time and talents to the school in so many ways. So glad that we have such great options in this community!

I don't think I have any complaints about this school. My daughter's first year at Grass Valley Charter has quite a journey and fun experience for her and for us as parents in her learning environment. I just hope I will be more involved as she continues to learn in the school's expeditionary learning curriculum.
