Great school with perfect academics and learning. Love the PTA and how engaged the parents are.

This is a professional staff-supported school, kids are happy and safe here. My son started here from K, from my view, this is a great school for learning and healthy growing.

As a former student myself of Mission Valley Elementary, I agree on a lot of what the negative and positive reviewers write. For example, the write-up system is really negative, and I pretty much cried whenever I got one. Yeah, I was a wimp. However, I never experienced much bullying. I never truly hated my peers. (Almost) all of them were relatively nice. The homework was pretty much pages out of the text book for math and science, a reading log, and a bunch of projects that were usually exclusive to "classwork" and "homework". It's a little outdated, which is why I gave it a three. The homework given out depends on the teacher. They can be creative and have more than one solution, or are just "follow the instructions" with everybody hanging up the same thing. For learning differences, I gave it a two. It barely integrates general education students with special education students, apart from a few getting to hang out during P.E., or one getting to hang out during English. As far as I remember, we didn't even have the same recess times! The teachers I got were nice to the students, and although I feel that some of them played favorites (me not being one of them always), none of them particularly picked on me. Except for 4th grade. As they say, third to fourth is a pretty big leap forward, but I'm sure that that teacher thought I was "the class comedian" or something and kept picking on me as the "this is not what you should do" example whenever I made the tinniest mistake, and gave out write-ups for the littlest of things that I did. For example, I did my homework when school was pretty much over and we were about to leave the classroom, some girls tattle-tailed on me at my table, and BAM. Write-up. For apparently lying when checking my answers from the filled in bubbles and doing my homework in class. Another student said they did their math homework, and they didn't get caught. Spreading negativity to a "delinquent" (which I wasn't) is not the way to teach them. Anyway, enough with my rant. Out of seven teachers, only one is memorable for being bad. 6/7 is closer to 5/5 than 4/5. 1/7<1/5. Keep in mind, this experience is pre-pandemic, though. Only a fourth of my sixth grade was spent during quarantine (starting at March).

My son attended this school for 2 years. The school and teachers are great. My son still can manage the distance learning very well because the teachers work hard and have patience to work with students.

I never do reviews but when I read the review bellow about the zoom classes, I think I should express my opinion because I completely differ with that. I am very satisfied how the school reinvented the way of learning in this hard time with the pandemic. The classes are really motivating considering the new scenario. The teachers and staff are kind and helpful. We have some issues sometimes but not because of the school, but because of the new situation that asks us as parents some flexibility and understanding. I have seen how some other schools are doing with distance learning and I can assure that Mission Valley Elementary School is far better.

In my child's zoom classroom, I can deeply feel that the teacher is playing favoritism because she largely calls and promotes specific students. Talking about teaching, there is no any engaging method that can be seen. What she is doing is just reading the textbooks and lecturing over. As for her homework, there are tons of homework, and most of them are not effective in improving students' academic abilities. Many students still need extra English or math classes outside of school.

We enjoy the experiences. The result has been positive. My son graduated from Mission Valley, and is a student leader and top basketball player in the high school. Thank teachers in Mission Valley for helping him go thru all the challenges and get to this point.

The school does not foster a learning mindset. The teachers are average. The school has high API only because of the extra classes that children go to outside. In spite of so much space and facilities at their disposal, children have PE only 2 days a week. There is no music, drama or arts in the curriculum. Math and language are substandard. School ends at 2.40p.m and at 1.10 p.m on early release wednesdays. I find it hard to understand how this is supportive of lower income groups because this practice mandates spend on after care. The system is outdated and falls between 2 stools. It lacks both the old rigorous school discipline and new age modern approach to education. Maybe this is how all public schools are, but I have been exposed only to Mission Valley and I have been disappointed.

The new principal has made a big positive difference for the students. She and the teachers are truly invested in the children. Most teachers are really invested in the kids, and do a lot with very little resources. They always treat the students and parents with respect. It has a been a wonderful experience for us in elementary!

Truly one of the best schools. Extremely involved in student enrichment and all round development of a student. Children enjoy going to this school and develop a very strong bond with staff and friends. The write-up system prepare students to be responsible for their actions and keep parents informed.

We moved to Mission Valley in 2013,my son got amazing teachers in 4th and as well in 5th grade this year. Both the teachers are amazing and reply back promptly for anything you ask about your child. My son likes PE and science lab teachers as well,he absolutely loves this school.I noticed a few bad reviews about the office staff, but I feel Office Staff is really helpful.I interacted with Mrs. Richardson in the office multiple times, she is awesome.Other young lady(I forgot her name)in the office is also very polite.Mrs. Richardson always explains patiently and in detail.I also want to talk about Weekly Reward Letter in Mission Valley. Kids get used to it after few weeks, like other things going on at the school.During first month of the school, your child will get weekly letter reward even if get 2 write-ups in a week.Teachers give the warning before giving a write-up. Also they give passes or tickets for child's behavior performance in the classroom which you can use against write-up.My child loves the 2 Letter Reward parties where the whole school participates.Overall, the school is awesome and yes,the kids are academically very competitive, but it has the healthy effect on my son.
