So far, this school is pretty enjoyable. The teachers are kind and respectful, and I like the school environment. However, today it was a mile day. Mile days are days where you run the mile during PE. However, due to unexpected rain, students assumed that the mile was canceled. However, it turns out we had to run the mile anyway. For starters, you could get a cold or a high fever. Even worse, you might also fall and slip on the track because it was so wet. My friend slipped several times. Thankfully, she was not severely hurt. Although I am not blaming the teachers, I hope the school does improve and come up with better ways.(I am using my personal account)

My three children excelled at Horner both academically and socially. They met a lot of new caring friends and continued doing very well at IHS. Fortunately, I was a stay at home mom that was around to help nurture them and keep an eye on things. Never had any issues. There were many great teachers, but you will always have a bad teacher no matter where you attend school. We did not witness any fighting, but I will say fighting happens at every school including the Catholic School I went to back in the day.

There are too many fights here. The kids starting the fights and jumping other kids are suspended, but they need to be expelled. Why should the kids that are being attacked have to change schools or go to school with the people that assault them? Would you return to work after a co-worker attacked you? It’s very traumatic. There is no real concern for the students being assaulted. They need to expel the students that are starting these fights. Very disappointed in the Fremont Unified School District and Horner.

My child witnessed so far this year a boy push another boys head into the wall repeatedly and those around were afraid to report because of retaliation. My kid said the students are not reminded how to report bullying and that you have to disclose your name and the name of the perpetrator. The principle and staff at this school takes a put out fire approach, not prevention. There was a girl who was seriously injured last month to point of requiring medical treatment and the violent offender along with other students corroborating got a measly slap on the wrist of suspension. Those people video taping the violent assault and the violent offenders should be expelled. Surprisingly there had been no real efforts or actions addressing school wide about the disturbing incident. No assembly encouraging those who witness or are victims of bullying to report anonymously. You must disclose who you are. At other more progressive schools where leaders don’t tolerate violent assaults, they are more progressive with anonymous reporting which prompts an investigation and warnings. There is such a lack of supervision at this school. We are looking into other schools for next year. Many parents at this school have resources and are involved in their kids learning and have tutor when needed which I believe reflects the test scores mostly. It is a shame that there was no announcement to encourage those disturbed by witnessing the barbaric violence last month to speak to a counselor or call a support hotline.

This school suspends children who got injured from bullying and the bullies who injure others only get suspension for 1 week. This happened almost a week ago. A bully who gets another student injured should get expelled from injuring another child. The assistant principal doesn't even know how this works. This school sucks. I do NOT recommend going!

Great school with an amazing set of extra curriculars which helps kids develop their potential beyond just academics. Not only that, the school is top and a leader in these competitions. Here are a few examples :1. Horner middle School chess team placed 1st at the CalChess State Scholastic Championships hosted by Bay Area Chess in 20222. Horner has done consistently well in Calchess over the years3. Horner debate Ranked #1 in South Bay Debate League with 100+ Champions/Qualifications to Elimination Rounds, 60+ Top Speaker Awards, 200+ Winning RecordsThese are just to name a few. We are fortunate to have a school which provides these kind of opportunities to the kids

Very good school feeding into top Irvington high. Provides loads of academic and extra curricular activities. There is high homework load which is good for academic development.

Office staff were terrible and talked to me rudely a number of times. My daughter attended from 2016-2018 and told me that one of the office staff said "where did the mean girl go" (referring to my daughter) without realizing she was in the same room. My daughter had also been dress coded for wearing a plain, unrevealing tank top with a jacket over it, absolutely ridiculous.

Like all California Public schools, this school is no different. Do not be fooled by students praising teachers for free A's doing nothing. I have proof that my son got 30/30 on English vocabulary where 75% of the answers were wrong. Math teacher giving him 100% on homework where half of the questions were not even answered. Math teacher giving A's on tests that were submitted a day later, or obvious cheat (No rough work shown). Obvious copy-paste from Google were simply overlooked. I think only History teacher was a little better. You just have to understand that this is true for almost all California public school. They care more about LGBTQ, bullying or global warming that traditional English and Math. This is almost like a state policy to not to teach. Save your child and choose a private school. Even a cheapest private school is million times better than these 10/10. Never believe any ratings. Go to school and check for yourself what are they teaching.

This school is amazing - but only if you get good teachers. Right now (in 8th grade) I have the hardest math, English, and science teachers, which might seen like a pain in the back, but it's great preparation for years to come. My favorite teacher is probably my Honors Science teacher (won't state for privacy). She teaches extremely well, and although sometimes strict, her first priority is her students and their futures in high school. However, if you end up with the easiest teachers like my friends have, the students end up being dissatisfied and unprepared for high school. In that scenario, the school becomes 3-stars. Overall, I think this school is very good - has a good student body, has a great music department (although the arts department is a bit lackluster), and has (mostly) great teachers who attempt to tend to the students and introduce them to a 6-class life.
