Great school. All the students are challenged well enough to succeed.

i am now an alumni of irvington and my parents went here along with my brother. irvington can seem all sunshine and rainbows but this school environment is a joke. the admin are useless, only some teachers really care about their students. all they want are students to overwork themselves and get good grades so they seem like a good school. the school is made out of cinderblocks so it’s practically a jail. anyone is isn’t asian gets thrown to the side. they never take concerns seriously. students aren’t really learning because teachers don’t teach they expect you to know. sports are a joke, all money goes to football. even if one sport makes money through fundraisers , they somehow “lose it” by the next year. ask any student how they feel about irvington and the response is going to be negative. past or present students will all have the same shared trauma.

SPECIAL EDUCATION HERE IS A JOKE- NO STABILITY WITH TEACHER- para educators know more confidential information than they should. THEY LOST AN AUTISTIC STUDENT FOR MORE THAN A FEW HOURS. Asking for a plan ofFuture safety of students and staff and principal hicks would NOT provide anything. The apology came after basically begging for one. They fired all principals and assistant the year before this. (Some were of other ethnicity not white) They did NOT repremand or fire these staff for NEGLECTING OR LOSING a special needs child. Ps the staff and Principals and Vice Principals are not of Minority at all. Go figure!

IHS is an excellent school with a lot of courses to allow the student to stay motivated and excel. My kids took just the right amount of AP classes and this was their choice. It also saves the parents money down the road, therefore I was pleased. The majority of teachers are amazing as were the counselors always willing to help out. IHS offers a lot of sports which allowed my kids to become more well-rounded and gave them the opportunity to meet many caring friends. They are happy and doing great in life!

    1. Top school in DECA : Continuing our legacy as the most decorated chapter in California, Irvington won 42 top 3 trophies, more than the second place school (Foothill, 22) and third place school (Washington, 20) won, combined. Additionally, a tremendous 117 teams from Irvington placed top 10 in their event. Irvington DECA continues to surpass our own records, beating an already impressive 40 top 3 trophies at NorCal CDC 2021.2. Irvington Debate has been a powerhouse in the Parliamentary debate division for multiple years now, holding the number one spot in the nation the last year. This is often credited to their student-run organization and top-notch preparation for competitions, along with the drive from the students to compete.

Great school averaging 8percent class to Berkeley over the last 5 years. Top 25percent class goes to top 3 UCs. The school provides great set of extra curriculars which help the personality development of the kids besides academics and helps build a good college profile.

Of course it's a pretty good school. Leans strongly towards the competitive side, especially if you take honors/AP classes in math and science. Student community is supportive and hardworking but succumbs to Machiavellian competition (unsurprisingly). Most teachers are above-average bureaucrats. Some are amazing and really motivate students to learn, whereas others really turn everyone off with egotistical behavior and insane tests. Irvington honestly has a well-earned reputation in the community, but it's causing some complacency, especially in competitive mindset.

I went to Irvington High School. Got accepted to USC, UCLA, and UC Berkely. Now graduating from one of these colleges and a got a job in Management Consulting (before graduating) at one of the largest private companies in the US. Irvington High School prepared me for college and prepared me to be succssful.

Irvington is a good school if you can 'figure out the system and hack it'. The environment at Irvington is very success driven. Many students feel pressured to take advanced classes as many of those who don't are often put down. You can easily pass a class if you can cheat and memorize information well. Most of the students I know who graduated with excelling grades cheated on a majority of their assignments. Some of the students bribe the TA to give them a good score. For this one AP class, I know most students look up the test questions online prior to taking it and the teacher knows. Most of the kids in non-honors classes don't study and the teachers don't try as hard to teach them. The school is split between good students being in honors and average to bad students being in non-honors. If you are in a non-honors class the teacher won't teach as well and if it's honors then the teacher's are too difficult. The teachers are very hit or miss with most being pretty bad. I'm just going to say most of the student body suffer from mental health and the school does not offer much support despite all the surveys and speaker they don't attempt to change. They conduct surveys say that shows that the majority of the student body is depressed and stressed and they don't make a single change which baffles me. It is an okay school but there are better.

I hope Irvington High School steps up in their approach to help students who are struggling in school and dealing with their mental health + extra curriculum. It pains me to see other students suffer through the same things as me and receive no help whatsoever from the office and vice principals.

Academics: It's a good place if you're driven to succeed academically, but it also encourages you to take on extra curricular activities/arts programs. AP classes are a hit or mess - I've had outstanding AP teachers that helped me get 4's and 5's on the test, but I've also had some that just didn't know how to make the content understandable for students.Culture: Like many high schools, students tend to be in their own hubs based on culture or activities (sports, ASB, arts, etc.). Projects like benchbuilding helped unite groups, but not for an extended amount of time. For the most part, the students are pretty nice and inclusive.Sports: Sports teams aren't bad (or at least when I attended); coaches are great and supportive.Overall: Decent school that fosters a variety of students; not as "intense" as some other schools in the Bay but will allow for motivated students to shine.

My son is a freshman this year. I had high hopes for this school but have been disappointed. The school is over-enrolled which I think truly stresses out teachers and give administrators an excuse to not do a very good job. The admin policy is to say "no" to everything and then rely on parents to push and come up w solutions to problems. Our counselor is particularly bad and completely unresponsive. I feel that since my kid is doing well (A/B in honors) that he is just ignored and no teacher or admin have even attempted to pay any attention to him. 2 of my son's 5 teachers are new to teaching and seem completely overwhelmed and unhappy. Another is so bad that I have had to ask for my son never to have him again ( told admin this and they never even cared to ask me WHY I felt this way). Admin are very disorganised and communication is terrible. Parent involvement (unless it is to lobby for a higher grade) is minimal. Classes are so full that the ability to get electives is non-existant. Facilities are ancient and crowded.

I went to Irvington for my freshman year. Due to my mom's new job, I had to move to San Francisco. However, if I didn't move, I would've been happy to graduate from Irvington I applied to Irvington through the arts magnet program and when I got in. i was so happy. I was a really shy person. I didn't talk, I didn't make friends. But since it's an art magnet school, a lot of the people in the school are performers. And can I just say, theatre kids are super welcoming and outgoing and friendly. They were persistent enough to talk to the quiet nerdy girl who wore black every day. .As for teachers, I loved all of them. I am not a PE person, but my PE teacher was great. She was sweet, and nice considering how bad I was. My math teacher was so understanding and very underrated by students. But really, the thing I would like to say about Irvington: I loved it there. If I could go back, I would. Also, there is so much talent there. If you have a talented child who is interested in art in Fremont, send them there. The arts teachers are wonderful, the productions have amazing sets and talents, and the teachers are wonderful. I reccomend it fully.

Teachers are making easy subjects difficult by giving tough tests. They want to prove that they are very good at their subject. Even a good student who can get grade A in other schools, end up getting C in this school, ex Algebra 2 Hons and AP bio. This ruins the GPA of a even a very intelligent student. No start for this school.

My daughter graduated from Irvington in 2013. She was first admitted on a fine arts wavier as a freshman. From the first time she visited the campus, she knew this was where she wanted to be. We actually bought a home here so our son could attend in this area as well. Although she was on a 504 plan for dyslexia and ADD, she thrived here. Each year we met with counselors and vice-principal to plan for her success. She passed the CAHSEE on the first try, she graduated with a good GPA and sufficient AST scores which earned her entry many of the Cal State Universities. She was active in the drama and vocal music departments. She was able to take classes such as sign language and advanced drama. Most importantly, she was happy here. Hats off to the staff at Irvington from one very thankful mom!

It is a horrible experience for us to move our children to this school, wish never make such a big mistake. The school culture lack of harmony, its communication channels are not organized efficiently. Some staff come in just for the job, no passion to teach at all.
