This school sucks. Unfair unbalced rules with stuff that do nothing about bullying.

This school sucks so incredibly bad. I told the councilor I was having serious mental issues and he barely talked to me and the made me write it out on a paper for my parents to see. Thanks gateway.

My son has been attending the school since 6th grade, and he is now in 8th grade. The school is excellent; they offer a robotics course that my son absolutely loves. Additionally, each teacher is very open to communication via email and is willing to help with accommodations. For example, in sixth grade, my son had therapy sessions during lunch, and the counselor allowed him to use the conference room for those sessions. Currently, he has a good group of friends, and the school teaches students how to recognize bullying and how to handle such situations. In overall we are very happy with his academic progress and the help we have been receiving.

The staff at this school need to reevaluate whether or not they should teach middle school and realize the impact they have on the students entrusted to them. The bullying and harassment my child received from the adults at this school was shocking. Received nearly daily calls at work because my kid sighed when asked to get out a book (deemed disrepectful), was chewing gum (which he got from students with IEP's allowing gum chewing), was too loud in the lunchroom or shared lunch with other students. These infractions were disciplined with lunch detentions in the reflection room. The staff made my kid feel like they were going to be a drop out, on drugs or in prison. Who treats a sixth grader this way? We began to see grades falling and our child no longer smiled or laughed. I tried to talk to the staff about the impact they were having on my child's mental health and my concerns fell on deaf ears. Even contacted the principal to discuss the staff's behavior, never received at return call or email. Never heard from a counselor either, only talked with the vice principal who was dismissive and defensive of staff. We moved our child to another school where they are now thriving, the daily phone calls have stopped and the staff at the new school have told me what a pleasure my child is to have in class, how engaged they are in classroom activities and discussions, and how much they love having my student. My students' grades have improved, and their positive personality has started to return. My child's experience at Gateway has caused them to be cautious when interacting with adults and there is a lingering distrust that we continue to work on.

This school has a VERY BAD bullying issue, and bullies do really bad things. The punishment you receive is a few days of suspension, and the rules are not enforced and are very strict, which is confusing. Ever since I've been going here, the other kids have made it awful for me. If the staff did something about these issues, I would LOVE this school, and unfortunately, that is not going to happen as It's been like this the three years I've been here.

A lot of bullying and harassment. Mental health help varies by student and will not be handled well. For the bullies they get a talking to and that's all nothing more. DRESS CODE is so bad and unfair. Overall would not recommend it is too strict and unfair.

The teachers really care . The administrative staff was fantastic with the special needs of my child. I cannot say enough great things about this school. This school has been fantastic and safe. I really appreciate their staff! Great Job!

Gateway used to be better. My older son went here a few years ago under a completely different administration team. It was wonderful. My younger son goes here now and it has gone downhill. By a lot! It is not at all the great school my older son got to experience. I am so disappointed in how much worse it is just a very few years later. When the admin changed, the whole culture of the school did too. They are not nearly as caring, connected, and positive as they used to be. This administration turns a blind eye to SO much bullying. It’s ridiculous. The amount of bullying I have heard about and witnessed is so far beyond what would have been accepted before. Kids with behavior problems are ignored because the school doesn’t want to suspend or expel for major issues because it will “look bad” for the school. So the trouble makers/bullies get away with whatever they want to do. The principal is extremely hands off. Anytime I have wanted to speak with him I have been told to speak to someone else. He has other people take care of those issues. I have asked for him to give me a call back or an email only to be told by another staff member “the principal told me to tell you this”. I have never actually gotten him to speak with me personally. It’s actually very strange. The old principal was very receptive to students and parents. Many of the teachers are still good, but there are a few that are very “checked out”. They don’t return emails from students or parents, and “forget” when a student asks for help. Very disappointing. Overall I know this school can be better, because it used to be.

It was good teaching and very little homework. The problem I have is the amount of bullying and swears/slurs. It's horrible pre-teens and teens that think they're "cool." If you can get over with some bullies than I'd say you would have a amazing time in this school

Meh a bit of bullying. Generally, an awesome school and doesn't have no drug dealers. My friends who went to heatherwood switched on, like, the first day. Kids often make LGBTQ/racism/sexual harassment jokes, but nothing too serious often, and fights almost never happen.GUARD YOUR CHARACTER

This school was really bad!! Gym was okay, but come on now, a 200 pound male would have to do the same as a 90 pound male. Same with females. They sorted you out by gender.. And they started doing lunch detention. Where you clean the cafeteria FOR them. And there's to much bullying, and racism. Some kid tripped another that was the opposite skin color.. I felt horrible. All of my friends go to Heatherwood Middle School. I wish I could go there too. Oh well.. People here are mean.. Also, everybody keeps hating on Heatherwood.. But the people at Heatherwood are so nice.

Honestly too much bullying and racism in the this school. The management won't listen to the parents or the students and always play the politics to look good. I don't think the focus is the kids in this school. Many teachers abuse their power big time in this school. I wish the management realize there are so many problems in this school and show the willing to work with the families to make this school better

My child feels safe, and the school includes everyone. They make the students feel wanted. A large variety of clubs are provided to the student body. Forwell academics, the children have fun in learning and are being taught in good manner.

I am old now but I was in the first class that went all three years at Gateway. I still think back on that time as an unforgettable time. Even the walk out that first or second year.
