My 5 year old son was grabbed by arm and taken to the office by his teacher. She told me she felt that he was disrespectful because he put his head down and ignored her when speaking after being upset over an incident in class. My personal opinion after being in education over 19 years. This teacher needs to be more compassionate, caring and understanding for children in this age group. Nobody other than parents should put their hands on other people's children. I took my son out of the school after 4 weeks. He now still talks about it until this day. It has been over 5 weeks that he has been out.

My son has been at St.Mark's for a few months now and we are so happy with the school. The parent community is also wonderful and welcoming. The school staff is committed to the well being of the school and maintaining the community built around it. As nervous parents we were won over by their commitment and tireless efforts. The entire staff is very approachable and very egalitarian, which is very respectable when you are in a private school setting. Most importantly, my child is excited to go to school and looks forward to it. I believe that's the result of the student/teacher ratio, which allows for individualized attention and care. I can most certainly say it's a great place for your little one(s) and your family.

A true gem, a school with a family feel where you actually know the kids your children are going to school with and their parents. A school where the teacher is truly an extension of your family and your child is an extension of theirs, small size classrooms that allow the teacher to truly be hands-on and care for each and every child unlike a public school where your child simply gets lost in the system. At St. Marks you never feel as if your child is simply a number, you feel like they are part of the family in addition academically speaking St. Marks students seem to be excelling at every level and well equipped for success at the High School level and beyond whether private or public. Keeping things in perspective and real; I would like to see some technology improvements (computers) and perhaps a few more children per classroom but not such an increase that the value of what St. Marks special is lost. Over all it’s a great little school with big achievements, if you’re looking for a school with 20+ kids per class, sports inclined and where your child is simply another student St. Marks isn’t for you. If you’re looking for a small private school where religion isn’t forced down your throat, where your hard earned money isn’t forcefully taken by mandatory contributions, where music and arts make up for the lack of sports and where your child isn’t only a student but family, look no further than St. Marks.

If you want your child to go to a small school where your he/she is sheltered from reality and not allowed or taught to "think outside the box", then you have found the perfect school. The teachers are neither credentialed nor trained to teach 21st century curriculum. Call St. Marks and ask if you could tour the school during their annual Open House. You can look at the quality (or lack of) of the work displayed for yourself.

Best Pre-School in Downey! After researching several pre-schools in the Downey area, we found St. Mark's to be the best fit for our family. Both of our children are currently enrolled in the pre-school program and are receiving the best possible instruction. As part of the curriculum, our children are exposed to music, Spanish, art, computers, physical education, science and so much more. They also attend several on- and off-campus fieldtrips throughout the year including Tanaka Farms, the LA Zoo, and the Aquarium of the Pacific. The teachers and assistant teachers create a rigorous and structured learning environment while providing wonderful care. We know our children are safe, clean, well-fed and stimulated. They are also taught how to care for themselves and their surroundings, how to be good citizens and how to be great friends. We also greatly appreciate the lessons of caring and living in Christ's image being taught to our children. The parent involvement is tremendous. Our daughter will remain for Kindergarten. Overall, St. Mark's is an incredible value for a local private school--a strong foundation for our children's academic and social development.

We have had a wonderful experience at this school. The principal and her staff are very much committed to children and excellence in education. The teachers are concerned about each child's success. They invest time and energy to 1) ensure the children are excelling and 2) communicate with parents if they aren't and need special assistance. As I drop off my daughter to school every morning, I know that she is going into a safe, caring, nurturing and academically rigorous school. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

My child was enrolled in K through 1st grade. He had difficulty reading and rather than adjusting their teaching techniques, the administrators said he had ADHD and required he be put on medication for continued enrollment in the school. Instead, I enrolled him in another private parochial school with teachers who understood that children have different ways of learning. He excelled there (without the use of medication, thank goodness).
