I am an 8th grader at this school, and going into 9th and throughout all the 3 years that I have been here, the school was really awesome. They have great programs here including gate, CJSF, web, and student senate. They should really add a couple more electives her but overall they are the best. The teachers are really supportive in everything you do. Whenever some sort of bullying happens, the school makes sure to address it instead of ignoring it. BEST SCHOOL IN DOWNEY!

2012-2013 was my son's first year at East Middle school. I was quite pleased with the decision we made to apply for East through lottery. My husband and I appreciated the content of his curriculum and the availability of the different clubs he could join and meet others with the same interest. Academically we thought that his reading and comprehension improved tremendously. We look forward to his 7th grade year starting in Sept. 2013. Furthermore, I would also like to convey how much I appreciated the open communication that I had with his teachers. As working parents it is important to be able to communicate with the teachers about how things are going and/or if there are questions. All my son's teachers responded within 24 hours of me sending them an email. Thank you 6th grade teachers for all you do to ensure a smooth transition from 5th to 6th grade.

East Middle School is a great school. They have the best choices of electives such as band and Es1. The students are getting smarter probably because more are joining band. It is sad that Mrs. Richardson is retiring. The amount of homework given is fine since some teachers give out projects every five seconds. Overall this is a fantastic school.

Hey I am graduating this year, and I have to say that this school was spectacular! The teachers are nice and helpful, I have great friends, and I learn a lot here. If you say this school needs to change, think again. I do not know of any bulling around school, and if so, the. Teachers would have caught it by now. I know there has been some students that came here that thought it was funny to dial 911, or to sell stolen stuff, but that doesn't make it a bad school. It is just a child that made bad choices. Say what you want about this school, but this school is the BESt!

I have been an EMS parent for the past 4 years, and I am looking forward to another 8 years more, the principal has made the difference, his involvement in anything that has to do with the school is remarkable, this past year he promoted the PIQE (Parent Institute For Quality Education) and it was a complete success, for a lot of parents was an eye opener and in consequence, more parents got involved. Every day when i drop off/pick up my kid at school I see him or the counselors walking around the neighborhood making sure the kids are OK. as a parent i really appreciate that. This year due to budget cuts some of the PE programs were cancelled, but he found a way to get pass those challenges and came up with a different PE program that is getting all the kids involved, and it's working!! Also our API scores are going up, and they have zero tolerance for bulling. EMS may not be perfect but the pro's are more than the con's. Overall we love EMS.
