My son attended this school for the past 2 years. After he came home and stated a boy had threatened to bring a gun to school the next day to kill him, we raised a concern with the assistant principal. Instead of helping my son, they turned the blame to my son. My son has been coming home frequently complaining of bullying and the only time the school did anything was when it was bad enough that it became physical. When he would try to tell the teacher, he was shushed and told to get back to his desk and do his work. They claim to have a zero tolerance bully policy, yet when addressed they turn to victim blaming. Contacting the school board also did no good. I was told we would have to agree to disagree and that the school has the final say. It got so bad that I had to pull my son from the school and decided to homeschool him. None of my children will ever go back to this school and I would think twice if you are considering sending yours.

My nephew attended this school last year and this year. I'm appalled with the neglect that the staff displays. Bullying is ignored, cries for help pushed to the side. Staff makes homophobic comments and participates in gender inequality. Victims are blamed when they come forward and gun threats are dismissed. When confronted, they change their story and attempt to gaslight parents and children, all to try and protect themselves. Children are blamed in order to protect the reputation of teachers and the school. This school is mentally abusive and the school board does nothing.

Carver Elementary is a great school. The staff has been exceptionally helpful and very polite.

The school is very open. Anyone could easily walk into the school undetected, making safety a concern for me. There is no paper towel in the bathrooms. The kids literally have to go outside to dry their hands. Bullying is a problem. And nothing is done about it. Science is not taught. There is no art program and it is not done in class. The books in the library are older than me and falling apart. The playground is dated with a very unsafe merry go round. While they have had special things for the kids throughout the year, like a puppet show, bouncy houses during gym time, movies, etc. there is no discipline during these events and the kids are allowed to run wild.

My daughter Is in the third grade at GW Carver Elementary. She also attended second grade at Carver as well. I have frequent and ongoing communication with her teacher. Parents are kept informed of homework, tests and special events via a weekly newsletter from the teacher. The school also calls our home phone with prerecorded messages from the principal for other updates. My child receives extra assistance in reading so she has been evaluated continually and her deficits are being addressed. Her second grade teacher took the class on at least 10 field trips which were revelant to class material. The kids have special events for positive behavior such as recceiving dragon (school mascot) dollars for good behavior and can spend their earned dollars at the dragon store. They have several other annual and semi annual events for positive behavior as well. The ciricculum is appropriate for the age-appears to be a grade level ahead of what I learned at her age in an excellent school. I have very few compliants about the school-limited extra ciriccular activities, dated playground equipment, and not too much focus on math and science. Large emphasis is placed on reading.
