I loved this school when I went here. The teachers were terrific, cared if you came in, and were sad. They had great teaching methods that made me happy to learn. The principal was terrific too and helped the teachers by bringing them food and drinks. The Announcements would tell the birthdays and it made you feel really special.

2021-2022 was both of my children's first year in the school as we moved from out of state. I think all staff at the school are great - very kind, welcoming and outgoing. I had a kindergartener and a 3rd grader and both loved their first year and had no issues. Both teachers were great with communication and the administrative staff are very hands on and involved with everything. The school was able to raise $63,000 in a fundraiser so it shows all the family/school involvement. All the different events the staff/PTA put together for the students and family is amazing. Love the family feel of the school and how important they make each child feel. We couldn't be more happy with the school.

My daughter has loved her time at southwest. She has had great, caring teachers. The school has lots of parent involvement.

School needs new and much better administration. Principal is bad and AP not much better. Great leadership means great school!!!

My son was bullied often in his 2nd grade class and the teacher (who now teaches 3rd grade) didn't care at all. It was a regular problem. This school doesn't know how to handle learning disabilities at all. The atmosphere when you walk into the school isn't cheerful. The secretary is rude, the nurse is rude and the principal is probably the worst I've ever seen. I moved away from the area and for the first time have seen what a good school is. Don't be fooled by the high ratings. They get there by brow beating the children. My son is so much happier in his new school and so am I.

I have been more than pleased with my experience the last four years at SWES. The staff is top notch - engaged, collaborative and caring. The administration is always open to suggestions and will meet with parents whenever needed. One of the things I love most about SWES is the student diversity...race, ethnicity, socio-economic, age, educational range (PreK-5th Grade HAG and a variety of resource classes for students who need extra help). I know my daughters are getting an outstanding education, surrounded by wonderful staff and parents.

My son has a learning disability and was put on medication. His 2nd grade teacher was clueless on how to deal with him. She wouldn't help him understand what he was learning and left it all to me to figure out. I've got 3 kids who have gone through elementary school and this is by far the worst experience I've had with a school so far. The Principal is a clueless snob. She cares about herself and her test scores and nothing else. I'm doing everything in my power to transfer to a different school next year.

I think Southwest Elementary is an excellent one for learning. All teachers and staff are dedicated to each student and make sure they get the attention they deserve. We love Ms. Dosek; she is our son's kindergarten teacher.I would recommend this school to everyone.

The BEST kindergarten teachers are at Southwest. I used to teach first-grade and students that didn't go to kindergarten at Southwest stood out- and not in a good way. My daughter had the best experience in kindergarten with an amazing teacher. Her first and second grade teacher (same teacher for both) was/ is a perfect match for her. There has never been ONE day she has complained and not wanted to go to school. The administrators know and love every child. The students come first at Southwest. That's the way it should be. I look forward to three more amazing years for my daughter.

We moved to the area last year and searched and visited several schools. When we walked into Southwest, we knew it was the right place. The staff was friendly, the kids were all well behaved. We toured many schools in the area and Southwest was BY FAR the best. It's an older building...but the people IN the building are the best by far. I HIGHLY recommend Southwest.

I moved here 3 years ago and my oldest son has been going to Southwest for 2 years now. My son had the best teacher his first year there (3rd grade). She still helps my son even though he isn't in her class anymore. NOT this year, my sons teacher does not like him. She sends him to the office for tiny things and he will spend all day there. While missing important lessons in class. She drops a whole grade level for missing a period, or not capitalizing one word. Hes in 4th grade. It's ridiculous. There is no communication between her and I. And the administration takes her side every time without even knowing whats going on. There have been little comments about ADHD meds. My son does NOT need medicine. We have never had any complaints from his teacher until this year. And that's all she does is complain and make my son feel like an outcast. I cant say enough good things about some of the teachers at Southwest, but the one my son has is not suited to teach. She cant make any kind of connection with the kids. I really wish I could post the names of the excellent teachers we have found. They really deserve to have their names shouted from the rooftops.

We were satisfied with the school prior to the 2011-2012 school year. However, with the change in administration this year, we LOVE Southwest! We couldn't be happier with our children's progress this year, and the teachers they've had this year are phenomenal and really care about them. The staff and PTA work incredibly hard to promote a positive atmosphere for the kids, and they've succeeded in producing a fabulous year for the students.

This is a great school! My child is in the fourth grade now. She started in the second grade. The number of students this year is much lower due to the new school opening. This change has been great. Since this school used to be a high school, there is a great auditorium and lockers for the children. The administration changed this year and is GREAT!

Very disappointed with this school. As I have walked my child down hallways all I can hear is teachers screaming at children to be quiet. The teacher's and principals cleary beat to their own drum with no regard to parents & their children. Am looking for a different school as we speak.
