My grandson made a 100 on a test and his teacher wrote a comment that he made it harder than he needed too! No encouraging words. Just a bullying remark! This was so uncalled for. Also, this same teacher sent my grandson to the office because he told another student that he didnt want to play with him. She called him a bully! But this child has harassed my grandson in class and the teacher heard it and did absolutely nothing to that kid. THIS IS A 4th grade teacher and I truly hope if SHE reads this she knows exactly that it is her. This school protects the ones with money and could care less about the others! Parents beware that you will make trips to this school for teacher and student bullying.

The teachers are engaging and involved and the curriculum is very good. However the bullying situation in the school is extremely concerning. In our family's case not just frequent emotional abuse and harassment of the child, but also a dozen instances of physical violence (punching, pushing into mud, stabbing with pencils etc). I must say the school responded quickly and bullies were moved or briefly suspended, but there are no long-term consequences; the bullies return even angrier. Worse yet, individual bullies appear to be recruiting others and forming groups. It is truly frightening to imagine what will happen in middle school. The school would be an excellent choice, so long as your child doesn't run afoul of one of the bullying gangs.

Teachers yell at students. Admin is so focused on test scores that they stick kids on computers for hours a day but teachers don't have time to monitor them to ensure they are doing their work. No concern to include enrichment for students who are bored and acting out because of it.

Like any school there are pros and cons. I truly believe most teachers are there because they love teaching.

Awful school! Bullying, teachers not paying attention to students. But their noses are in their phones. Bullying on the playground, and in the bathrooms. And a cafeteria monitor who eats the kids lunches... The kids call her "The Rat Lady". If you don not live in a fancy neighbor they make fun of your child and obtain happiness with destroying your child's self esteem.

With the administration they have, Westview is more of a prison than a school! If you send your child here just watch out for the front desk people. they never smile and don't want to help you. during lunch, you can't talk or you'll get "written up" the PATROL the school. the assist. principal and several other staff members walk around the tables glaring at kids and yelling "talk again I'll write you up" its like eating in a prison cafeteria. then you wait in a hallway for 5-10 mins silent, and they do the same thing. when you FINALLY get to go outside you probably just half to walk for whispering one word in the cafeteria----keep scrolling through the reviews, you'll see a parent who says this same thing and that's because its true!!! Art class is ridiculous. anyone who says "art class" is incorporated into everything---they're wrong. P.E. is boring and the teacher is tedious. THE BULLYING IS SEVERE. Kids I guess are treated bad at home because kids are always complaining about bullies and especially the boys---they're evil to everyone and to each other. My advice is to invest in a private school or send your kids to a better public/charter school.

I'm currently a middle school student who attended Westview for a year before transferring to a private school. I am hoping they've begun to undergo some changes but I did't like it when I went there. First off, the staff. I was never a girl that got into trouble, but the administration scared me. The staff acted like they HAD to be there, not that they wanted to be. They yelled, and were mean and I always felt their cold stares when I walked down the hallways. The teachers are decent, some better than others. My brother got a sweet teacher but mine didn't have a good method of teaching and I felt like falling asleep half the time--and I LIKE school. Because of this, everyone in my class misbehaved, passed notes, and talked. Secondly, the academics. In my opinion, the curriculum was too basic and in my class, everything we started, we never finished. We had reading groups but we only met three, maybe four times that entire YEAR. Third, the "related arts." I had a music teacher that I'm pretty sure doesn't teach there anymore but music was decent. We sang songs, learned the recorder, etc. The "art class" is a joke. You have to pay to have it after school and I believe all kids should be able to have art. "Computer class" isn't even a class. It's basically an electronic recess. We just sat there playing games (as I remember, they didn't have to be educational) and our teacher just graded papers. Last, the students. I made a few friends but a lot of people are mean, cuss at everyone, and don't care to make friends. In conclusion, my new school may have some bumps but overall, I'm glad I transferred.

Great parental involvement and very caring teachers. All school staff are caring for the students and provide the students with a can do and will do attitude toward school. Very satisfied with our 2 daughters who attended this school. Teachers great, leadership great, and school nurse most excellent.

My daughter just graduated from Westview and my whole family have been very satisfied with teachers, staffs, and school system. Apison is another good school; however, they will initiate a big apartment complex in the Apison area soon; therefore, Westview is and will be the best in the East Chattanooga Area!!

I currently have a 2nd and 4th grader at Westview. Both of whom have attended since Kindergarten. We evaluated several local private schools and ultimately choose to move to this district specifically so our children could attend Westview. We have been very pleased with our choice. Our eldest is enrolled in advanced studies (gifted) and we have been delighted to have this added enrichment.

This school gets two stars only for the teachers. We have had wonderful experiences with the teachers that my children have had throughout the years. However, the rest of the staff is very unfriendly and rude. The students seems to feel terrified of the administration, particularly the principal. The principal is extremely bitter towards parents and students for some unknown reason. My kids love their teachers, but they still come home upset and drained because school feels like a prison to them with a mean principal as the warden.

Either parents or staff from this school are submitting raving reviews to boost this school's scores up! For example, in February of 2012 a parent posted a review claiming that art is neglected at Westview, but just one month later a parent gives Westview 5 stars and goes on and on about how great Westview is and how art is so incorporated into the school. I think the fact that Westview has to write these fake reviews shows just how insecure they are about any criticism of their school.

Excellent teachers, cheerful happy children. The office staff are less than friendly to parents and rude to the children. I like how the teachers go above and beyond. Helping the children achieve success. My child loves school! They get little time to talk at lunch or "she" yells at them. My child enjoys music, science and Library. Its a great school. I'm glad we are here. Good luck with the (office/attendance/lunch) women. She needs people skills and a heart...

This is our first year at WestView and overall it has been fine. I do completely agree that the principal is not friendly. She doesn't even try to be pleasant. I have attended some of the PTA meetings and haven't heard from her at all. The PTA seems to be doing a good job though. They seem to really care about the school. The front office staff is unfriendly, they only smile at a few of the kids (I'm assuming it is the children they like best). I've overheard a few teachers being mean to the kids in the hallways, also. My child's teacher is wonderful and has been so patient and kind through the entire year. Overall, WestView is a good school but I think the principal and office staff need to either move on or try a little harder to remember that they are working with children. Children need support, kindness and a happy environment. Things can be under control without having to yell and punish. I'm hoping that things will improve over time.

I believe my child has received a good education with a few exceptional teachers. i also feel that as a whole there are things to improve. This school will never admit that anyting is wrong and therefore will never get better than it is today. Creating individual thinkers is not a priority. The priority is fitting all children into the same mold. March on the blue line, only look straight ahead, hands by your side, no talking is the norm. I have often empathized with the teachers who try to create a better environment in their rooms. Socialization should be high on the list of the core cirriculum but I have never seen anyone at this school take the time to teach these children how to interact with each other. If you say they should learn that at home, my response is that the school has them during these teachable moments. I as a parent do not have groups of children at my house. Teaching yeilds better results than screaming. Heaven help you if your child is pegged as a trouble maker- my heart goes out to those children who are screamed at as soon as they enter the cafeteria. With all that said this school does produce test score results, I just wonder at what cost to the individuals.

This school has many great qualities. The majority of the teachers are terrific. There are many exceptionally dedicated parents - as evidenced by the obvious push to increase the school's rating (several in about 2wks). But this website is one of ONLY places parents feel they can voice their concerns. Criticism of any kind is not welcomed, so where else can a parent go? If you really love this school -- allow parents to have a place to air complaints so it can get better! It is not a warm school. Teachers do what they can, but at lunch and in the halls, where others take over, it is harsh. There is no firm yet kind reminder to "be quiet", "stay on the blueline", or "keep looking forward".... To list a few commands heard multiple times a visit. Reminders are harsh and severe - the principal will yell as well. Safety may be a concern, but there are better and kinder methods to enforce rules. The only time a kid can be "free" is lunch and recess. Take 15 min for quiet lunch, 5+ Min for the "lining up" after lunch (quiet /face forward), and the 10 + minutes frequently lost of recess to walk for any infraction, and you have about 25 min -- if they get to go outside.....

I went to Westview from Kindergarden-5th grade. It is a fantastic school! The teachers are so nice and parents can volunteer to help in class and stay with their child. There is no favoritism, bullying, or anything bad. The halls are decorated with paintings and bright blue. The school is so welcoming! The principal is probably one of the nicest people I know. The whole school knows each other, so the Kindergarden-5th grade all talk and look out or each other! The bus rides are even a nice and fun environment! I am now in 8th grade at the school right beside Westview called East Hamilton, currently in 8th grade. Westview was so fun, I remember all my wonderful teachers, and can remember everything! The school colors are blue and gold. There are so many fun events, like the main one called Harvest Hoedown. It is where the students dress like cowboys and cowgirls. Westview elementary is one of the best schools in TN!
