I’m sad about our experience with the principal. She’s never around you cant find her on the ground. If she out front maybe it will help with outbursts, parents behaving, kids doing better.A good leader is what is needed to bring up that 4/10. There’s no teachings of good behavior in the playgrounds. Kids are cursing in the yard a lot parking situation is ridiculous double park and triple park have made recommendations. It’s been a year and a half and still nothing has been done. When asked to speak to her, she’s usually not available.I don’t feel it. My child is not getting the proper education and I have other parents to feel the exact same way. Field trips were only given to the fifth graders and only 1 to the fourth graders. When there’s meetings nothing is posted to let parents know. I was 10 minutes from going Decided to call the office and that is how I found out it was canceled. Nothing was posted no make up meeting for the parent meeting . parents need to be notified on dojo so that we don’t have to leave our work & attend a meeting that is not happening.Teachers refusing to post homework on dojo. I see why they rate the school a 4/10.

Broadacres is full of skilled professionals! They provide a safe and FUN environment for our students. The school has a community feel and really cares about their students. They celebrate their success and strive for excellence. Our child loves going to school and I believe it’s because they show he matters!

My child attended this school last term. Her experience at Broadacres was not pleasant. Academic standards were very weak. She is an average student at best, but at this school she was top of her class. The children at this school are not disciplined. Bullying is rampant, especially on the playground. The school appears to be a suburban area surrounded by well-kept homes in a decent area. Well this is a false perception! The parents of most of the students are single mothers who moved back home to live with their parents. In many cases the grandparents are doing the parenting.Thank God for grandparents or this school would be even worse! There are also an above average number of foster children at Broadacres. Most teachers here seem to have a very lackadaisical attitude towards teaching. Teaching the children academic skills is not a big priority. The principal is ok, just don't expect much from her. I urge you to sent your children to either a magnet, charter, or private school if your child's education is important to you. Beware of Broadacres!!On a final note, one of my in-laws is a substitute teacher for LAUSD. He absolutely will not substitute at this school due to the terrible behavior and lack of respect of the students. In fact the school has difficulty attracting substitutes - many simply refuse to be a substitute teacher at Broadacres......this is very telling. BEWARE!!!!

Great school so far! The Principal Mrs. Martin and my son's teacher Mrs. Heynes are great!

It's so sad that we set our standards so low. Surrounding areas like Lakewood and Torrance have wonderful schools with high standards and high test scores. We need to stop calling mediocre "great" or nothing will change. Broadacres has low scores and the children are at a disadvantage when they leave the school. It took me months to help my nephew catch up to the children at his private school when I pulled him out of Broadacres.

The school is terrible, and so is the principal. Many, if not all of the teachers complain about her when she is not around. The principal is arrogant and is always talking about raising the school's test scores, however it seems she only wants to achieve that to improve her own image. She has been the principal at Broadacres for a few years now, and the school has gotten worse every year she has been there. She discourages parent/teacher communication. The principal is always telling parents the school is a "closed campus"; it seems as though she does not want parents to go into their child's classroom to observe the teaching, or lack thereof. There are various "combination classes" which consist of one teacher teaching students of two different grade levels. That is possibly done to avoid hiring more teachers. She pretends she wants more parent involvement, however when parents make complaints or suggestions regarding the school, she does not want to listen. The students are severely underachieving compared to other students on their grade level. Many of the teachers are lazy and seem uninterested in the students actually learning. They do not care if the children learn or not.

Great school with motivated and dedicated teachers. The staff is friendly and the campus is beautiful. As I read previous comments, it saddened me to hear that some people has negative feelings toward the school. My 4 children attended this school which gave them a solid foundation for middle and high school. All were accepted into universities upon graduation. My grandchildren now attend on permit because the teachers teach the standards. People need to realize that it takes more than the administrator to ensure student success. It takes a partnership of parents, students, and staff to make an effective school. Everyone needs to do their part, because it's everyone's responsibility. I appreciate Broadacres. It's really a great school.

Very lower learning institution, problem here is the principal, Scates and teachers who believe they have an entitlement to do what they want. They do not like there own principal. Just please view the achievement scores. You will see that your child is not achieving. Some of the lowest scores in the state. That says plenty parents. Replace Scates and you will clearly have made an improvement.

Broadacres is a GOOD school with a larger number of parents beginning to participate in school wide activities. The principal spends a lot of time educating families about student learning as opposed to giving a few difficult parents a place to threaten others when they don't get their way. Most students who leave Broadacres are those with ongoing problems that parents refuse to acknowledge. The staff is great and I only see the student outcomes getting better when student learning remains the priority.

This is a terrible place to send your child if you care anything about the higher learning capabilities of the student. Yes, I do agree that the principal is very combative as well as stubborn. Yes, there are very FEW programs available for the students to join, unless fighting is one if the available activities. The staf has some capable teachers. But LOOK at the test scores. They are horrible, our kids leave here ill equipped to compete. There are amongst the lowest scores in the state. We cannot accept this, again, check the test scores you will be as appalled as I am. We can only blame the principal and the staff for grossly failing our children. Scares should be fired, period.

If your child requires ANY kind of special/additional support of ANY kind in terms of behavior and/or academics do NOT send them to Broadacres. I couldn't even get the most basic accommodations for my son. I sent complaints to everyone I could think of within the District & got absolutely no response nor resolution. The Principal is combative, self righteous & overly dramatic. And the Vice Principal who heads up the Special Education Dept. is well intended, but she's in charge of 4 schools & so there is absolutely no follow through or attention to detail. I pulled my son out of there with lightning speed.
