This school was beyond terrible. It claims to be rigorous but was lagging far behind. I went an entire year and no emails to the teacher were acknowledged or responded to unless the principal was copied in the email. Any problem that arises will be dealt with an a rude, hostile manner. I've spoken to many who have had the same experience here. They have terrible leadership. I would not send my child here if it were free.

This school is not what it used to be. Yes, the campus is still beautiful but that is about it. They have been without a permanent head master for 2 years. This has greatly reflected the work of the staff and administrators. The saying "while the cat is away the mice will play" is all too true in this situation. They accept children who have special needs but they have no support for those children and the teachers do not appear to hold any special credidentials to educate them properly. This creates havoc across the board. The teachers suffer, the typical students suffer from the constant class interruptions and the students who need extra help are not getting what they need to thrive. If your child is gifted or maybe a little extra they will not be challenged or pushed further. When we first came to Allen with our daughter another parent warned me that the teachers would not push my child to do more and she would need to be extremely self motivated in order to succeed. I took this advice with a grain of salt. Now I see what they mean. The past 3 schools our child attended she was tested as above average in academics but we fear that will fade from her while attending Allen Academy. When we have complaints it never goes any higher than the head of lower school. This would be the equivalent of a VP at a public school. Usually the problem is not resolved. We are basically told too bad, do it this way or we usually get fluff responses telling us how great they are or responses assuming we don't know the process. Feedback and corrective criticism is always recieved hostility. It has become apparent that Allen Academy is only interested in keeping enrollment up not the quality of education up. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars is because they are great about bullying. No bullying happens at Allen, that may be a product of the caliber of children whom attend but I do think staff are very attentive to this subject. In the end the old reviews are just that. Old and out dated data no longer relevant to the current climate of Allen Academy.

Allen Academy has been a great fit for our family. It is a home away from home with good values, caring teachers, and a safe and comfortable environment for my children. I value a school that not only teaches a child how to learn, but also how to be a good friend, citizen, and one day adult. I love that I can trust that Allen Academy is encouraging and fostering good character in my children.

So wonderful! I don't think my kids would be the successful young people they are today if they had not spent their formative years at Allen with such great teachers who really cared about them.

Our family has really enjoyed being a part of the Allen Academy family. Our daughter started in Pre-K and is now in Lower School and there really isn't a day that goes by where she doesn't come home excited about something new she learned. The key word being excited, she loves going to school. In addition to her enjoying school, the teachers have been great, particularly with regards to communication. If there is something that we can work with our daughter, we know right away. It truly is a partnership and we look forward to being part of the Allen Academy family for years to come.

Allen is an outstanding school. Our child has been enrolled for three years and is now in the 7th grade. Her transition from lower school to middle school was seamless. Her ability to participate in extra curricular activities is unmatched at Allen.

Allen is a place where the students are challenged, a place where everyone has value. We are thrilled with the quality of our daughter's education.

My husband and I were hesitant at first if moving our child from the top private school in Houston was the right thing. She flourished there but as she got older we were afraid of exposure to certain avenues of living in Houston. Best choice we ever made was coming to Allen Academy. The Allen Academy experience is so different from most other schools. Teachers genuinely care, bullying is non-existent, the students are friendly and outgoing, and the campus is beautiful. Teachers at Allen Academy love what they do, and it's evident every day. Faculty and the Administration go above and beyond to help guide students, and all are flexible and willing to adapt. They're leadership is there to push you to your full potential, but also to catch you when you fall. Allen Academy really is everyone's second family.

I have a few different levels of experience from which to draw:As an Allen alumna, I can tell you that I was exceptionally prepared academically for university life when many of my public school friends were not. At public school, you can "blend in" but at Allen, you are seen...and therefore are required to be an active participant in your education. As the parent of a student about to become an Allen student, I am thrilled for what he is about to experience. We moved unexpectedly back to the area last year and enrolled him in public school for expediency. Prior to that he attended a private school in the Houston area. It has actually been a bit heartbreaking to see what less than one calendar year of public school has done to his academic curiosity and learning excitement, not to mention the level of respect he has lost for himself, his teachers and even his parents. I know that the environment at Allen will help him find his way again, and I am so thrilled with the future possibilities. And finally, as a small business owner who teaches martial arts at Allen in an after school program, I can tell you that the quality of students at Allen, in all grade levels, is outstanding. They are respectful, curious and driven kids. There is just something different, and extremely special, about an Allen Academy student that you really do have to see to believe.I encourage everyone in the Brazos Valley with school-aged children to visit Allen Academy. It truly is the best independent school in the area.

Allen Academy is the best school we could ever imaging for our children. The teachers care so much about each individual student and that really makes a difference for the children. We are truly blessed to have Allen Academy in our city - I don't know where we would have sent them to school if not for Allen. There has been some instability in the past due to lack of leadership. It affected the children some, but not enough to reduce the quality of the education or the overall Allen experience. We are very excited to have met our new Head Of School who is coming in May. Dr. Rush has all the qualifications the school needs to tweak the areas that need tweaking and there is a real sense among all of us at Allen that big things are in store for our little school!

Allan Academy has been a blessing to our family. We have been an Allen Family for about 8 years. Out 2 children could not imagine attending any other school. The curriculum is challenging and we feel it is getting better all the time. This school has put a lot of students in the right position for college. It is the best choice in the Brazos Valley.

Allen Academy is an exceptional school we are excited and proud to be Allen Academy parents. It is interesting to read the reviews, most of the negative reviews are from "parents" who do not seem to have children attending Allen, and they all seem to say how wonderful the teachers are, which they are. Is that not what we want, the front line, so to speak, of our children's education are the teachers. I know my child, currently enrolled at Allen, is excelling and blossoming in ways I never could have imagined. My Kindergardener reads and preforms math at a second grade level. Politics and finances will always be a factor in private school functioning and will always wax and wain, how else will the school make improvements to things like science and technology, one of the most expensive parts education, if not for strong finances. If you are going to overlook the excellence in education for unwillingness to deal with the schools need to raise funds which all goes back to the students of Allen, then perhaps your family should go to public school. I think it will take some tough and strong leadership to make Allen Academy what the board wants it to be but I also think it will succeed.

As a former student of Allen Military Academy (graduate 1963), I feel that the present school has tried to "ride the coattails" of the former school that built up a reputation for being a top military school in Texas. Allen's history has been re-written to "glorified" the present school and make it appear that it is a continuation of the original. The present Allen Academy should not be confused with the former Allen Military Academy!

We have been an Allen family for 12 years. We have been through the ups and the downs. More downs. The leadership is still a struggling but, the teachers are excellent and the academics are now the best they have been in years. We are still considering other schools for our rising High Schooler, as I am not sure Allen offers enough for a well rounded student going into college. But our younger kids are happy, challenged and doing well. If you are looking for a great alternative to the sorely lacking public schools of the area, give Allen a look.

Our family tried public school but found that Allen was the right place for us. Our 2 children have attended for the past 5 years and we couldn't be happier. Yes, Allen had all of the growing pains mentioned in the other reviews. These are pains every school has but the board, staff and parents at Allen listen and make changes to correct the issues. The new headmaster has been in place for almost 3 years and the turnover has slowed to a minimum.Of course there is an occasional teacher that leaves and gets everyone in a tiff, again this happens everywhere. The facilities are A+ and getting better everyday. The cirriculum is pretty tough but the students seem to do well making the transition to college and Allen has a long trackrecord of 100% of seniors attending college. I couldn't imagine sending my kids any place else.
