Great school. This school has improved so much this year

This school is absolutely atrocious. My son has talked to me many times about how disgusting the bathrooms are. They over flow the toilets with feces and urine. And the teachers are not very understanding and at times can be disrespectful and not teach their students. And the safety at this school is absolutely horrendous!! They instigate these fights and don't take disciplinary actions about these fights! some kids even threaten death and shooting up the school!!! Now even if these threats are not done in any way, it is better to be safe then sorry. If you have ANY other options than this school I DEFINITELY do recommend sending your kid/s to a different school.

This school is disregarding my kids well being. They simply do not care about my child's grades but rather her clothing. My daughter has been suspended for wearing pijama pants when there is nothing wrong with them. They should be caring about her mental state and education rather than what she has on. Also my son has been suspended for defending himself in a fight against the same group of kids that have been harassing and bullying him for months, Which every instance has been reported and the school still has yet to do something about it. I myself have been to the school multiple times talking to administrators, guidance counselors, officers, etc and yet nothing has been done. My children are not getting a proper education, the school is very short staffed and my son only has 4 classes with actual teachers, there are 7 periods. Not to mention the overall school itself, it's absolutely disgusting. My daughter has sent me multiple pictures of roach infestations, mold spores, and dirt staining the ceiling tiles. Finding another school for my kids in the middle of the year was extremely difficult. I do not recommend sending your children here at all!

After my grandson, who is diagnosed with ADD and ADHD, was bullied in school today and every day I might add. Today a student doused him with water and of course he got laughed at and ridiculed for peeing himself. I went up to the school to take him some other clothes and asked to speak with the principal or vice principal. I was pleasant, nice, and just wanted to talk to someone about the ongoing problem. They would not let me in, they said there is a" no parents on campus policy" !!! They asked me to wait in an area outside of the school on a bench In 85 degree heat and i have MS ! After 32 min of waiting and NO ONE addressing me at all, I left. I'm not to be in the heat and hung in there as long as I could. When I was leaving, i rang the buzzer which has a camera to thank them for all their help and concern(LOL), and yes at that point I was getting a little sarcastic by this time. They didn't even answer the buzzer so I couldn't even express my appreciation LOL (l I would also like to add last week he got "SNAKED" ( jumped from behind) and when he defended himself he got a 2 day out of school suspension. The other boy, I was told, but am unable to confirm, got in school lunch suspension. Like i said im not sure if this is truth, another reason I wanted to talk to some one today. There also was witnesses to the incident. This is just 1 instance out of MANY !!! The school is known for bullying and fighting and then it gets posted on UTube or TicToc. They start these fights for that reason but it doesnt get addressed or disciplined. Thanks for your time and for reading. If you have any other choice I would not send my child here

Coming from a student, this school is fantastic. I am in the Stem program and I travel all around the country for championships with my team. This school isn't at all what you think. The teachers are affective, and I have seen my classmates get better grades than they have before. This school takes bullying seriously, too. I think this is a great school, and you shouldn't judge it based on the incidence that have occurred in the past.

I live across from Mclane and get to see the school on a day to day basis. I feel so BAD for those kids and the TEACHERS. I watch children fight with weapons while going to the bus, so bad they have to release bus riders in "waves" so the police and teachers can control them from fighting while getting on the bus at dismissal. The school looks like a little prison camp, metal gates with locks all around so they cant get out nor in. (And it is a prison, when you hear over the radios "quick, Lock the gate!") They require multiple police officers on staff and still despite that I have seen ambulances almost weekly carrying away students and Teachers who have been injured. I have watched CHILDREN been taken away in handcuffs on a weekly basis. And yes, i have photos & videos of this chaos. They have "No fail days" (it's announced weekly over the very obnoxious loud speaker system that protrudes the entire neighborhood) so show up and you pass, where is the learning? They are supposed to have a dress code, where I have seen 11 children actually abide by it. Those who follow rules are the ones who are targets. I have watched a young 6th grader everyday (who is in band, because he carries an instrument) RUN, like he runs FOR HIS LIFE from 5 bullies (obvious 8th graders but they are the size of a senior in high school) at the buses. (Again, what is the age range at this school...10 years old to what.. 17??? like my neighbor's child who is repeating the 8th grade for yet another year) The young child cuts through my yard. My husband is a Marine, and rather large one, so once the bullies saw him outside on our porch they stopped at the road (and starred my husband down), the child, we directed a better "short cut" for escape. This is control? This is safety? This is BECAUSE they have decided to BUS kids in from downtown Tampa 15 miles away, and mix them with the children of Brandon. And you wonder why so many kids are home schooled? I WILL NOT send my KIDS to these schools until the state decides to "rework" their boundaries and place kids in school where they belong.

While no school (especially middle) is perfect, McLane is trying. We've tried some many strategies since I've started working there. It's been 5 years now and we've got a principal that is making lists, strategies that are WORKING, and teachers that are on board with the changes. We've started PBS - a positive behavior system- that the kids are starting to know and love. When they're on task, they receive Viking Silver which they can use to purchase passes during lunch for Court & Field, Media Center, and Patio. Quarterly they are able to purchase entry into a bigger event, like a dance, our Viking fest, a talent show... the like. We also plan on starting a Viking Store where they can buy things they may have forgot, like pencils/pens, notebooks, deodorant... things they may need to be successful for the day. We want the climate to be positive and productive. We're on a big move forward as a school and in the right direction. For any of you that are worried about your kids, we're happy to have you as a parent shadow and for feedback or ideas you may have! Also, if you'd like to volunteer for anything or events, we'd be happy to have you! We want to be successful in helping your kids be successful.

My son goes to Mclane and he loves it. All of these complaints because you are refusing to give the school a chance. When we moved into this district, I was extremely worried. In all honesty, I tried getting my son into a different middle school because of what I read about Mclane. However, my fears have been relieved. We went to 6th grade orientation and I was confused. Where were all of these undisciplined criminal children that I read about? Where were these teachers who didn't care about the students?? Our experience at orientation was great and I had no negative thoughts leaving. Fast forward a few weeks. I get a phone call stating that the children were put on lock down because another child brought a BB gun to school. I was appreciative of the lockdown procedures and the automatic phone call. You can't blame one bad decision on all of the kids nor the staff... plenty of kids in all districts make bad decisions thinking they wont get caught. You guys are complaining about the kids not bringing home homework? That's so silly. My son brought home 4 A's and 2 B's on his progress report, and he has all advanced classes by the way (which are state regulated). If he's learning everything he needs to learn in class, why would he need homework? The Principle and her staff are doing their very best to turn the negative perceptions of Mclane into positive perceptions. This school has surprised my family. My son feels safe and comfortable going to school. He's made great friends and has great teachers that truly care. I keep in constant contact with his teachers and they all respond back within a few hours of receiving my emails. If you think this school is bad, you are misinformed. Mclane is not a bad school. Signed- Proud and supportive parent

Mclane middle school has bullies that get away with betting up other students. If you are a parent think twice before sending your student here they will get hurt.

I have to agree with the post from August. My daughter is also in the 6th grade @ McLane. Every morning when she is getting ready for school, she gets sick. I really think it's her nerves. Back when i was in Middle School, there wasn't much bullying to worry about, nor was there so much crime. I think many kids are afraid to go to school nowadays....to the point it's making them ill. My daughter has asked me several time to be home schooled, but her dad & I work, so we can't do it. I want her to love school !

McLane is a school on the move. An emphasis on high expectations has begun to transform this school into a middle school to be proud of. Great work by the principal and staff in creating an environment of respect and achievement.

My son just completed 6th grade in the Robotics Academy at Mclane. I can't say enough good things about the teachers in the robotics program and the standards they set for their students. The rest of the school, however, is in complete chaos. There are 200 students in each P.E. class and 4 teachers. When my son was grabbed by the throat and slammed into a wall 1 of the coaches told him that if he didn't know the name of the person responsible there was nothing the coach could do. This was two weeks into 6th grade. Later in the year my son witnessed a massive food fight in the cafeteria that resulted in the suspension of 40 students. Worst of all was the day my son came to me and said he had seen one of his female classmates surrounded by a group of boys who proceeded to touch her inappropriately. This was in an overcrowded elective classroom, when he asked her why she didn't tell the teacher she told him that it was a daily occurrence and wouldn't stop. not know his attacker's name the coach couldn't help him. That was two weeks into sixth grade. Later in the year he witnessed a huge food fight in the cafeteria that resulted in the suspension of 40 students. Worst of a
