We moved here a few years ago and I can say that I do not understand any of the negative reviews. The school has been great. The teachers seem to be highly involved and motivated to help our children grow. The music dept could use a bit of an overhaul to direct the students to play instruments that are more suited to a school of this size. Orchestral instruments are in abundance where the kids should be guided more towards woodwind and brass. The sports program has been very good so far. Our kids are on the GnT list, play ports and and many other extracurricular activities. I am very happy up here and the view the the school is great.

This school is horrendous when it comes to their treatment of special needs students. My son was going to school here and was unfairly targeted by his kindergarten teacher. When a student pushed him down the slide she unfairly tried to blame him for the incident. Also parents beware that if you are the victim of domestic violence here and the law has already looked into it the school will overstep their bounds and try to involve human services. Terrible place for children and education. That is all.

This school does not do much to handle things such as drugs other alcohol and does not teach there children and the teachers let kids play on there electronics all class. This school is not a good place to send your kid unless you want a troubled kid

I moved from another state specifically to enroll my children in this school, and it was well worth the effort. The experience at Gilpin is refreshingly personalized and focused on the students. I feel that this smaller, rural school actually affords much more opportunity for involvement and enrichment, than any larger city/suburb school. My children are thriving and so excited to go to school - every single day! They love it and I love it. We are so pleased with our experience at Gilpin County School, and look forward to many more years of happy learning!

We love Gilpin County School. Our children are very happy, & testing scores are high. The teachers are excellent, lots of wonderful teamwork. Great programs in theater, music, sports, Girl Scouts. The school bus drivers are very nice, & will take you child to recreation center after school, where they can swim or do a program. The PTA is awesome, & parents in the community are fun & involved.

The best way I can describe our school is kid-friendly. The teachers are wonderful, the community is close knit, and the classes are small enough for each kid to get personal attention. The kids actually enjoy it.

I can't help but to laugh when I see a previous comment I posted was removed as well as many other negative comments! I have no doubt in my mind that this administration has reported these comments in order to keep their ratings up. This school is AWFUL when it comes to children getting the education they rightfully deserve. There is absolutely no direction for kids that appear to have trouble learning in certain areas and trying to get the help they need is a complete JOKE! I honestly don't think this school has what it takes to educate children that need the extra help, not sure if it's a lack of knowledge or just plain laziness or both but i'll continue to make sure anybody that considers sending their child to this school is aware of what they are getting into! Very Untrustworthy all around!

I am aware of the PTA in Gilpin's School. They are amazing!!! The teachers are so lucky to have parents that are so invested in making the school a better place for the students to learn!

I am student at Gilpin County School and have I been attending sonce Kindergarten. I am now beginning my Senior Year and have great pride and love for my school. The teachers work with the students and enjoy their presence. They want every student to succeed and try their best to make it happen. I have been going to school with several of the same people since Elementary school and we all respect and encourage eachother. Gilpin has never failed at welcoming new students. Students can do sports and the play at the same time because we are small and need all the support we can get. Gilpin may be small but it is mighty. I was reading past reviews from years ago that are still affecting the overall rating. The school has grown to be better and stronger than it was in the past. I attended the montessori program Pre-3rd grade and have absolutely no regrets. It helped me grow as a student and a person. My little sister is now in the program and because it has grown immensly she is still enjoying it in 5th grade and hopefully 6th. Gilpin offers traditional and montessori (up to 6th grade), so you have the choice on how your child learns in school.

My daughter attends the Montessori Program at Gilpin County Elem and this is a wonderful school! Ratings on the web may be misleading. This is a small school in a nice mountain community and it provides a quality education to it's students! There are limited sports opportunities, as would be typical in a rural area, but the ones they have are great!

Gilpin County Montessori is a great alternative to traditional school. I feel my children have accelerated with the small class size and dedication from the teachers!

This is a bad school. The main problem with this school is the absence of a supportive, student-focused administration. The principal is inept and completely lacks resolution when it comes to handling problems with teachers, and will always side with the teacher despite student welfare. Additionally, there is no sense that this school is poised to make any positive changes for the future. There's no conscious decision to be progressive or proactive on the part of the administration. Yes, they implemented a Montessori program several years ago, but it has stayed afloat by parental involvment, not the administration's own initiative. Additionally, the administration has a history of hiring teachers that have no experience teaching in a Montessori environment. The program is mediocre in comparison; definately not noteworthy yet. We removed our children from this school, like many others before us, and placed them in a school with lower test scores. An evaluation upon entering their new school, put them at over a full grade level behind! You owe it to your child to avoid this school.
