Took my son out two years ago , as a teacher I can say that students are not learning at the level of neighboring public schools. Teachers are not being supervised and the school is of void of fun, no trips , no activities or enrichment. Old fashioned teachers who are not adapting to new ways. Bullying is an issue, and teachers play favorites like crazy. Surprised to hear that it will be closing soon as enrollment was low but new leadership was said to take over. Sad how the Arch keeps closing all the Yonkers Catholic Schools abruptly.

The church is beautiful and the priests and others church staff are really a lovely group of people. Pre-k through second grade are a great experience but after that it’s a nightmare. The 3rd grade felt more like a prison than a catholic school. Bullying is encouraged and never stopped or handled at all. The school needs a new principal and it needs to create a safer environment for the children. Recess consists of a square of blacktop with no seating for the girls and a small fenced in parking lot with basketballs for the boys. That’s right, the boys at least had an activity but the girls only have blacktop and for some strange reason the genders are always kept separated at recess but kept together for gym class. The school is dark and outdated. The cafeteria is smaller than a cheap studio apartment. Holidays aren’t celebrated after like 2nd or 3rd grade. I would not recommend this school beyond 2nd grade.

My daughter is in second grade here since pre-k and she loves it. It has a great community feeling. The kids are all great friends with each other which puts a moms mind at ease as far as bullying goes. The teachers are great in our experience. They always reach out when there’s a problem or if your child is struggling. My daughter fell behind last year because of a death in the family but her teachers really worked hard to get her caught up with the rest of her class and she did very quickly, for that I am grateful. We love it here

I have two kids attending St John's school and I would say they do an excellent job. The emphasis is certainly on learning which is great but they also teach the kids good behavior and give very good religious instruction. The pupil/teacher ratio is excellent and discipline is maintained but in a controlled manner.

Don’t send your child here if they have any issues they will break your heart, as I well know

In September of 1954 when St. John the Baptist first opened its doors, I entered into first grade. When I graduated in 1962, my class was the very first to go through all eight grades at St. John's. When I look at my class picture which I still have, there were 57 kids in my class, and believe me, we LEARNED, and we learned well. The caliber of the school has indeed held up throughout the years. The teaching staff is top-notch, from the nuns we had back in the 1950's right up until today. I will forever remember Sister Margaret Mary, who was the best principal St. John's ever had. The children who graduated from this school had an edge, because practically everyone went on to attend Catholic high school. I thank both my parents and the teachers at St. John's for giving me an excellent education. St. John's will always have a special place in my heart. Sincerely, Lori Bueti, Class of 1962, Yonkers, NY

My review is based on just one year at st. Johns. This was where my daughter went for pre-k, so my review isnbased solely on that one year. She had mrs. Kelly who is not only a wonderful person, but an amazing teacher. The children LOVE her and so do the parents. It is evident when your child comes back home how caring and nurturing mrs.kelly is. My daughter looked forward to school each and every day. So if thereare any mommies like me who is just letting go of their babies i can assure you they are in excellent hands with mrs. Kelly, mrs. Brozo, and mrs. Diegues. (There are 2 teaching assistants in the class) the class size is really big with about 30 children. Imagine 30 little 4 and 5 year olds screaming and running around. But mrs. Kelly has everything under control. The kids are always seated where they should be and quiet any time i had to make a stop there. I definitely took comfort in knowing that my baby was with mrs.kelly, mrs. Brozo, and mrs. Diegues. Its is also appreciative to know that the principal sister mary alice knows each and every student by name! New or existing. The upperclassmen are also quite polite and well behaved! Its a small school so everyone knows everyone and their half uncle twice-removed! Its a good community feeling.I have no reservations about recommending this school. My only issue or worry (for which i took away one star) was the fact that hand-washing was not practiced in the classroom. Granted there were plenty of hand sanitizers available and the children were encouraged to use them but alot of times nothing is a good as some good old soap and water routine. Atleast before lunch. Bottom line, if you're thinking about sending your child here, especially for pre-k, rest assured your child is in really good hands! All the very best to all the students. Thank you mrs. Kelly for being who you are!

I'm an alum student that graduated back with the class of 2009. I was happy with this school until I reached the middle school years. It's actually noticeable that there really is no diversity. You'll have your Italian, Irish, and Albanian kids and if you're not one of these you'll be treated like an outcast by your peers. Have experienced it. The principal did nothing but make me sit with the kids who bullied me when it came to attention it was happening. The kids are harsh by sixth grade. The teachers are pretty good. School could improve a lot more.

Community and parental involvement is excellent. Principal is excellent and knows every student and parent. She has been there for over 2o years, runs a tight ship, and doesnt change much. Some techers are better than others but as a whole are great. Alot of extra curricular activities. Everything else could be debatable but no school is perfect.

This school can be explained in one word horrible. The teachers work the kids like mules, giving them work that is at High School and College level. They ruin your child's summer by adding more work than they already have. The school itself still has the appearance it would had when in first opened in the mid 90s, such as old desks and radiators. Overall this school isn't great and doesn't even deserve one star
