Originally I was worried about this school, but through my experience I have learned so many important skills that have helped me throughout my high school career. The students and staff are very welcoming and the community at this school is very strong. The teachers are always there to help and the structure of the grading system assures that you fully understand the topic before you move onto a new one. This school has definitely helped me grow as both a student and a person, as well as putting my 7-8 grade experience in a wonderfully positive light. If you're worried about leaving your friends, don't worry! It is relatively easy to stay in contact with them! Our school has 'canteens' which are basically school events where you can invite your friends from your home middle school and participate in fun activities. Also, there are lots of recreation times to build lasting friendships! In reality, no school is perfect, but if they could be, it would be Phoenix Middle school.

I really liked the idea of Phoenix when I first signed up, but looking at my experience from 2 years here, I think that there are some really good things about Phoenix but also some flaws with the school. Because the school is so small, students really get a chance to get to know all of the students and staff. But, a flaw from this is that a lot of petty drama gets turned into a huge situation and somehow the entire school will hear about it, not really a good sense of confidentiality. The mastery grading is a fantastic approach, but for students who already struggle with task and time management it’s incredibly easy to fall behind super fast, and there is a huge difference of the workload compared to highschool, It honestly felt like a breath of fresh air after the first semester because I had way less assignments and seemingly more time to complete them. I think there is a lot of busywork to fill in the time that you get to complete work, and students who fail to complete everything are excluded from things. But, I still enjoyed my time at Phoenix and I made a lot of good friends and there are some really awesome teachers here!

I am a current Phoenix Middle school student and I just LOVEEE Phoenix. This is a great school and everyone is very accepting. I could talk about it all day and have more to say. We are very inclusive with the LGBTQ+ community and all of us come from different backgrounds. We celebrate this everyday and a good thing about it is that if you need/ want to then you can have a snack at school.

All the teachers and students at Phoenix are so kind. They are constantly trying to find ways to help you grow as a person. Everyone gives each other mutual respect and is always willing to help. I have never experienced such a positive environment like Phoenix and I think that the majority of people would love it there.

As a middle school student, I would say that this school exceeded my expectations in many areas. My time in the school taught me many things I needed to know later. First, when we learned new material, the teachers ensured we knew what we were learning and why we were learning it. One of the main things they teach you at Phoenix is critical thinking, which helped me understand other peoples' points of view and helped me comprehend subjects that are hard to talk about, including racial equality, political matters, and world events. The teachers treated me with respect and empathy and would check on me when I wasn't feeling well. Our school did many things to encourage community between students and separate grades. At Phoenix, I didn't have to worry about bullying because if someone was mean, you could talk to them about your feelings with no trouble. If you struggle with homework, the teachers are almost always free to help you; they give you their cell phone numbers, so you can text them if you are struggling to keep up. At the time, I was a student with two after-school sports, so I had trouble keeping up with homework, but because I could revise my assignments, like all the other students, I came out of the school with a 4.0 GPA. Phoenix teaches you great life lessons you will need in your future.

Phoenix ROCKS! We can't say enough about the Phoenix community. Parents and students are diverse, interesting, and involved! The teachers are highly committed, creative, and, most basically, respectful. Those students who need enrichment receive enrichment. Those who need more support have support integrated into the program. The mastery grading system is built on common sense and requires students to master content before moving on to another grade. Test scores are higher than other middle schools in the district. We love Phoenix! Our daughter has had a fabulous experience, and she's only half nerd.

This school is given high marks by parents and teachers but as a former student I know that it is anything but perfect and four out of five students would tell you that is awful they just don't let those students talk to the incoming seventh graders. The teachers are outgoing but can't teach you anything, and they have no control over the students at all. I went there for two years and skipped at least one class every day. They pretend that they are a perfect school with no problems or bullies. But what actually happens is that the bullies just don't want to come here because they enjoy having a social life, then a group of nerds just does the bullying instead. But once you get put back in the regular school system you no longer have friends. You think you will hang out but you don't you just don't have the time. You get home at five thirty and then have at least an hour of homework to do and if you want to play sports you have even less time. At least 75% of the students are some of the weirdest people you have ever met. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Aha, This school is AMAZING. They teach you so many other things that most other middle schools or even high schools wouldn't teach. This school is almost like a long life lesson. Plus everything else that a school has (math, la, etc..) Just a truly amazing school indeed. The teachers are all so nice and caring. Almost like second parents. Plus they even help with life kind of things. You could ask the science teacher a questions about cells, then you could talk about.. your friends are fighting. They'll help you with everything. This is just a great school
