My daughter is a Junior at WHS. She has had wonderful, engaging, well educated teachers thus far. The principal is phenomenal- very communicative with families and has set a positive and supportive tone in the school. There are many built-in supports for struggling students. The school draws from a very diverse socio-economic area, and it does a good job at meeting a variety of needs. The school guidance counselors are amazing---helping students plan their journey through high school and beyond. There are plentiful offerings for elective courses, and many ways to get involved in sports/music/theater/leadership/clubs, etc. Overall, great school!

I'm a sports coach at WHS. Admittedly, I only come across a small slice of the students compared to a teacher or administrator. However, in the years I've been there, I've been able to pick up a reasonably positive vibe in not only the students I coach, but also in overheard snippets of student-to-student conversation. Not a lot of trash-talking going on, and genuine interest in each other's courses and progress. The mid-level administration that I deal with the most have been great - no complaints - only praise. Some of the sports facilities need attention, and like probably most public schools in this era are possibly a bit underfunded.I see some of the other comments on here related to individual problems of discrimination or lack of interest by faculty, but I haven't observed this. It's probably challenging to have students from such a wide diversity of economic backgrounds come together in both academics and sports - Woodside seems to do a pretty good job of holding it all together.

awful, miserable, the pinnacle of mediocrity, no leadership

Woodside has a very nice campus and some great teachers. However, I wish it can offer more honor and advance classes so students can have choices between AP and regular level classes. I also wish AP physic 1 & 2 are offered.I wish some teachers could demonstrate genuine compassion and wisely bring out kindness in students instead of “talking” about shallow tolerance. It’s not a bad school, but there’s a lot of room to improve.

We started as an enthused new WHS family and are finishing up as an exhausted and regretful WHS family. Our student would have been much better off at Menlo Atherton High School. There is not enough variety in courses offered at this school, classes are tracked into AP and lower level courses w/o anything in between, many of the teachers our child had were brand new out of college and some of them were quite terrible. There were a few bright spots along the way - our college counselor, school counselor, one English teacher, one Spanish teacher who left in frustration, and on biology teacher. The rest were mediocre at best. The senior thesis is a highly structured time sink and a somewhat pointless project. It could have been designed in a much more effective way. There is no leadership at this school. Any concerns we've had along the way have been breezily brushed off by administration. The principal is great at recruiting new families into the school but doesn't care much about the students once they are there. I've also heard from parents who have minority children at this school that there are racial discrimination problems in terms of placing children from particular ethnicities in lower level classes routinely. Over all, this has been a very shallow high school experience and we regret having made the choice to send our child to WHS.

WHS has been a tremendous experience for our child. Superb, dedicated high-intellect teachers. A thoughtful curriculum. A caring administration. Just so pleased with it all.

Our family has had a wonderful experience at WHS. We have one child that has graduated and one currently enrolled. It is a large, socially and economically diverse student population, which we consider a plus! Because of the school's size, there are many opportunities: biggest language program in the district, coding and computer science classes, student-driven electives, and an awesome robotics program. My children have had wonderful teachers in all their core subjects. Of course, like anywhere, we've had a couple less-than-stellar teachers, but they seem to be leaving and the principal has been replacing them with a fantastic and enthusiastic staff. Terrific math, science, english classes. Teachers are always available to help the students and the school provides an after school study hall where teachers are available to help. We have been happy with the sports programs (especially water polo and swimming) and the leadership opportunities. My children feel like differences are respected, individuals appreciated, and students leadership and engagement opportunities abound. Also must mention the amazing music and performing arts programs. The school just broke ground on a new state-of-the-art STEM building and has a completely modern digital and performing arts building with all the latest equipment and technology. So much available!
