The teachers are LLESD are AMAZING. The teachers are mostly experienced veteran teachers and new teachers are always mentored by a seasoned teacher. The SPED program is stellar. The teachers are caring, knowledgeable, and go above and beyond. I highly recommend LLESD.

Our kids are super happy and thriving at Las Lomitas!

I attended Las Lomitas as a child and feel so lucky my kids are attending the school as well. So much of a student's experience comes down to their teachers and this is where I think Las Lomitas shines - the teachers we've encountered are unfailingly warm, experienced, effective and engaging. The school invests heavily in its teachers and it shows. I personally know two leaders of nearby private schools and both have independently told me that Las Lomitas has some of the best teachers in the area (and compensates them in-line with that). They lament their inability to recruit away Las Lomitas' teachers. (Btw, I am not an educator myself nor have any professional affiliation with this or any school).I'm confused by a prior parent's unrelentingly negative review. Every family has their own experience, but we've found our child has had ample opportunities to stretch their learning and the administration has been unfailingly responsive to any questions or concerns we have (in one case creating a special counselor-led lunch group when our child felt unease during kindergarten recesses). Additionally, the negative comments around test scores increasing during Covid is disappointing and fails to note that Las Lomitas returned to partial in-person learning months before most school districts in the area (in Sept 2020). The fact that the teacher and school community returned to in-person learning so quickly and safely in the midst of a pandemic I think speaks to the dedication and trust within the school.

I attended this school as a child and thrilled to have my kids attend as well. So much of a students experience comes down to the teachers and the ones at Las Lomitas are incredibly experienced, kind and dedicated. The school provides so many resources for teachers and it shows. I personally know two leaders at nearby private schools and both have said las lomitas teachers are some of the best (and express their dismay at their inability to recruit away any of the teachers). I’m confused by a prior parents dismay with the school - our daughter has found ample opportunity to stretch her learning and she frankly is learning things i learned a grade or two later growing up. The comments about Covid learning are misleading as well - my best guess is that the kids at las lomitas benefited from the school partially returning to in person learning quite early on (fall of 2020) far before many other districts in the area. I think the teacher and school community’s willingness to return in-person speaks to the dedication of teachers and trust among the community.

Our kiddo is so happy here, and so are we! This is really as good as it gets when it comes to public schools (or private for that matter.)

Our child had a great experience with TK and glad they opened up this opportunity to all 4 year olds. Teachers and staff care and know our child. Communication was rocky at the start but partly due to pandemic residual as it seems moving forward staff is much more organized

Great school if your kid is average/below grade level or special needs. They teach only to the state standards and have zero modifications or support for gifted kids or advanced learners. In fact, it seems like they actively disdain these kids and try to make parents feel crazy for expressing that their kids are bored and frustrated and need more than the (exceedingly low) state minimum. And perhaps the most ridiculous thing is that the school claims to care about social emotional learning, but then refuses to support advanced learners so they are forced to do repetitive basic worksheets on topics they mastered years before, day after day. And when the kids complain, the school says it wouldn’t be fair to let some kids go ahead because it might make the other kids feel bad. Interfacing with the administration feels like being in a bizarre alter-universe where education isn’t the school’s objective, but instead a tool to be given to the bottom and withheld from the top so that everyone looks the same. And if you point out that some kids aren’t learning, they focus on the importance of SEL. Sigh. I just can’t wrap my head around withholding learning from curious engaged kids. It’s just so *wrong.* It’s the only school district in the area where test scores increased during covid - meaning that kids learned more in pods or doing distance learning than they do in the classroom. Massively disappointing. It’s really just free daycare. We are sadly forced to do private so we don’t have to listen to our kids complain about hating school and learning nothing. What a wasted opportunity.

Our son has had a fantastic TK experience at Las Lomitas. The entire staff, from his TK teachers and the administration to the art studio teachers and librarians, go above and beyond to foster a community of learning. We feel like our son's teachers 'see' and cherish him, and they have done an incredible job championing a love of learning for him and his classmates. We look forward to the years ahead.

Wonderful experiences for both our kids. Strong PTA support, small class size and tailored support from teachers.

This is really as good as you're going to get in a public school in the United States today. The teachers and staff are tireless and go above and beyond in their attention to the individual needs of their students. I wish there didn't have to be so much time and effort on state testing (mostly in third grade, but there's foundational preparation in the earlier years), but unfortunately this can't be avoided in today's public schools, and this school does its best not to teach only to tests. I want to highlight two exceptional resources this school has that can often get overlooked by parents. The school bus drivers are phenomenal. They are caring, attentive, responsible and professional. They were my children's first contact with the school and from that moment on they have felt reassured and excited for their journey each day. And I as a parent always know they are in safe hands. I couldn't ask for anything more. Also the PE teachers are amazing. They teach so much more than just sports and fitness. I know a lot of PE curricula try to do that, but these teachers take it to heart. These classes are one of the key places that my children have developed their character, team spirit and perseverance (and my children aren't very athletic). The PE teachers have identified my children's particular needs each year and then worked to support them and help their confidence grow. I think it's these additional aspects of a school (beyond class teachers, the principal and test performance) that make a good place extraordinary, and this school has these in abundance.

I wonder if other reviewers accidentally left a review for the wrong school. I have two children at Las Lomitas and our experience has been great. The school has first rate facilities, up to date technology, kids performing above average at math and reading, and even classes focused on basic programing concepts. STEM is a big deal, but so is learning about other cultures, art, music, and physical activity. The teachers have been first rate and care about the children well being and education. Bussing to and from school has been great, the bus drivers are friendly, and kids love their time on the bus as well. Classes are not over crowded as one reviewer suggested, but are at a very good 20:1.

Recalling my own past experiences with your typical public school, this is a phenomenal school with great teachers and amazing resources. Given the current paucity of state-provided educational funding, this is in large part due to the heavy involvement (and generosity) of the Las Lomitas community. I am very happy that my children attend this school and grateful that they will receive a first-rate education.

Factory for test takers and followers. Overated but probably above average compared to other public schools in CA, which are not that impressive.

Pulling my kids out of this school. Testing taking skills and doing crafts all day are not the only things they will need to succeed in HS, college, or life. Too many students per classroom, esp. at the K-2 grades where they need more attention.

Highest marks. Las Lomitas school is a remarkable place for children to grow and learn. When my daughter was a little behind in reading in First Grade she was immediately placed in an extraordinary reading program. By the end of the semester she was reading at the top of her grade level. She also loved the teachers who, I agree, are truly remarkable educators.
