Someone needs to look into their support for IEP's. My son was there for 1st-3rd grade and his test scores suffered because they refused to assess him for an IEP or even offer assistance until I had to investigate what was going on with him. Later in his 3rd grade year they decided to claim to start the assessment. I decided waiting until 4th grade and dealing with the horrible staff wasn't worth it. WE also had problems with hackers at while attending Sunnybrae in Winnetka. They would get inside some language programming and algorithms and dictate his online scores and or spelling etc. When we brought this to their attention their attention, they were dismissive and so was the school board.

The first few years it was excellent. Just like any business that gets sold etc. and the customer sees an "under new management" sign- the place is never the same and business dwindles. The same applies here- my students are moving to a new school. Poor management.

Worst school that I've ever seen. So much racial discrimination and lack of safety from staff and school management. If you love your child - stay away from this place!

Sunny Brae is a great school. I have a child in 5th grade and one in 2nd and both of my kids have very dedicated, caring, and inspiring teachers. My son's 5th grade teacher is knew this year and he has really stepped up and is doing really well. She treats the kids with respect and always wants their best. My daughters 2nd grade teacher is always there for our family and cares so much for the kids. I am glad that I am part of the Sunny Brae family and I wish I would've had my kids here earlier.

DO NOT GO TO SUNNY BRAE. They have lost preschoolers several times, and then blame the 4 year old child! There has also been several Principle changes in the last 2 years, and much rumors swirling around the reasons that concern me. I have switched schools due to all the problems.

I'm the librarian at Sunny Brae Elem. Students visit the library anytime I am there and bi-weekly with their teacher. When a student finishes a book they often run to the library to choose a new one. When a child can read fluently they have a better chance of success in school and their life. These students are our future and we need to prepare them to be the best they can to be! The organization First Book chose our school to receive over 54,000 brand new books over the last three years so students can start their own library at home. The community has rallied around our students to show them how important reading is; also they donated prizes to encourage the love of reading. Our local 7/11 awarded us a 500.00 check to buy current books. Each year our students have increased the amount of books and words they have read. This year students have read over 5,300 books and over 25,000,000 words. They have worked very hard to achieve this success in their reading and comprehension skills. I'm sorry to say starting next school year the school did not find the funds to fill my position as a library aid. I love what I do! I will miss all my little readers!

My child has been at Sunnybrae for almost a full year, and I'm certain I will be looking elsewhere for his further education. In 90% of the take home information for the parents there are grammatical errors as well as informative errors. I am almost always confused on schedules because the times or dates are printed incorrect and have to be amended. In addition I have had homework come to me on several occasions with instructions completely in Spanish. I am hoping my child is learning to speak English correctly, not work on their Spanish. In addition, I have witnessed the children ganging up on each-other on the playground. If I was not there, the children would have carried on through lack of supervision. In defense, here are many children per class, but if I didn't go out to watch, all of the supervisors would have been still inside while a poor child was chased and bullied. I have also witnessed punching and slapping that went unseen. I hope this is not everywhere. I am also bombarded by phone calls from the school on non-urgent memos that would be more suited for an email or memo (almost 2 times a week and sometimes 4 different calls in one day!).

This year, I decided to enroll my son in kindergarten at Sunny Brae Elementary because it is closer to our home. Last year, he was a Pre-K at Limerick Elementary. It has been over a month at this new school, every day my son still says he wants to go back to Mrs Diaz, his preschool teacher at Limerick. I hope that one day, he would say he loves his current teacher, and I made the right decision to choose Sunny Brae. Sofar I has found good things about this school, higher test score and great new principle leadership. I totally support the rule that parents are not allowed at the school premises. This is solely to protect our kids, and I am glad that the school put our children's safety as one of the top priorities, giving parents peace of mind. THANK YOU SO MUCH to the Principle Leadership. I would highly appreciate if teachers could love their students and teach them as their own kids. Their future are in your hands and we need your help to build strong foundation for them. While we are so proud about this school's high test score, together, principle, teachers and parents let's make our school, Sunny Brae Elementary become the best and shined in our community.

Sunny Brae has a wonderful PreK program. My son attended the program and absolutely loved it! The teacher was a great caring being who always seeked the best for the children. As a whole the Principal along with her staff have done a spectacular job in raising the education level at the school. Congrats for all the hard work and the amazing results!

Sunny Brae has been working very hard to give their students reading skills that will last a lifetime. Their library is second to none. The kids love being there. The librarian even has books for the students to keep thanks to a company called First Book.

The new principal is AWESOME! He really watches out for the student's best interest. Not allowing anyone on campus without visitor's permit is living proof. With so many unfortunate incidences taking place in schools all over, we cannot be too careful.

Enrolling our son in Sunny Brae Avenue Elementary School's Pre-K was one of the best decisions we've ever made. He made a smooth transition, mainly because of the warmth of the teacher and her assistant & the joy they bring to their jobs. The class played music for the kids to dance to. They read to the kids; teaching math, writing, geography & good social graces. You are also given the opportunity to volunteer once or twice a month in the classroom. Our son always enjoyed and benefited from our involvement in his Pre-K experience. They are well balanced and allow time for learning and playing. They also offered a healthy snack schedule. Everyday that our son left class, he would bring home at least one piece of class/art work. He was also always excited to do homework at home like his older brother! When it was time for our son to transition to kindergarten he was more than well prepared and when his new school evaluated him for kindergarten, they were really impressed with him! Thank you Mrs. Houston and Mrs. Ramos.

I am very concerned about this school. On my son's first day of preschool he was not with the other kids when I came to pick him up. He told me that he was lost. I am still trying to sort out what really happened, but it seems to me that the security of the school is below the standard at the very least.

This school by far is horrible! Teachers have a need to pick on kids. Office workers way to lay back. I wouldn't recommend any parent to enroll their kids in this school. It's just horrible!!! Oh and now "NO PARENT is allowed in school premises" Ridiculous your school ain't no high class its by far the worst!

This school has slowly transformed to a jewel. With all its challenges, the school still managed to improve its API score. This school has been receiving students dumped by the charter schools around them.
