Great community, teachers, and principal. The dual language opportunity is amazing and your kid will be fully bilingual when they graduate. The teachers care so much and most have been here a long time. The class sizes are smaller so all the kids know each other. Highly recommend.

This school allows bullies and do not discipline on them. My son has been bullied to even had to go to the ER. The bullied never stop even my son had talk to the professors and the child to stop. Nothing has happened since them was still going on until I had to move him to another school farther from home. The professors have favorites and they have said inappropriate gestures to the children. Lack in the support to the children from kinder and first graders. I have heard that one teacher told the entire classroom in first grade that “I’m tired of you guys not doing your homework correctly I’m going to rip it in classroom”. Know there are students in first grade stressing out about turning in homework to the teacher. The students should fell encouraged and supported by the teacher not feeling bullied or ashamed as well stressing out. Thank God I move my children from Multicultural learning center in Canoga Park by De Soto.

This school is way ahead of the curve. I have been continually impressed by the school's dedication to social and emotional learning, growth mindset, and effective language learning. All of these pieces are really are the building blocks for a good foundation of learning, empathy, and globally-minded students.

Both of my children attend MLC TK - 8th grade and it was the best experience although different for each of them! That is the best part about MLC-the way in which the staff supports and encourages every single student. Neither of of my children spoke or understand Spanish before they started at MLC, and Spanish and before the end of Kindergarten they had started reading and writing (and speaking!) in Spanish. It transformed their educational experience and opened them up not only to a different language, but cultural awareness and friendships they could not have made elsewhere. If you are looking for a foundational experience for your children to learn in an environment of diversity and inclusion, look no further. This is it.

My child went to this school through graduation and loved it and our family as well. This school shaped and molded the person they are to this day. I have high praise from the teachers to the staff and I never miss an opportunity to tell everyone I know. If you have elementary aged students this is a something that will benefit these kids for life. It is a family atmosphere that you will not achieve in a regular public school.

I worked here for quite awhile. The lower grades do well, but once you get to 4th grade and up, it’s a revolving door. Administration does not respect teachers who desperately need support in building their own Spanish and in developing more Spanish resources. Administration never responded, even when I would share emails of potential Spanish professors to offer workshops there was no follow up for years. They went through 6 HR reps in 4 years and my last year there was no HR rep at all. It was beyond a toxic work environment.I was reprimanded by administration for advocating for the federally mandated special education minutes in my Language Arts class. They do not see kids, they see dollar signs. They value enrollment numbers over education and respect for their students, families and teachers.

We love MLC and talk about it all the time to our friends with children. There are so many opportunities to be involved and so much programming that supports parent education that parallels what is done in school.

So far it’s been really good. I’m happy to see the progress my child has made. He’s reading and speaking so much more Spanish. He’s told me he loves MLC-that’s the most important thing to me.

Very Bad !!!!! They should change their Principal she does not love children
Submitted by parent on June 13, 2018
The current principal has destroyed anything that was once good about this school. She is extremely rude and disrespectful, and is ill equipped for the position, quite possibly the most unprofessional person I have ever met, which is saying something since I am an educated middle-aged parent with a long career history. The bullying is out of control at this school, and they have serious flaws in math education. The school changed over the course of our 7 years, I will be forever grateful for the bilingual education and intervention therapies, as well as the parent education classes, but with the current principal it came to a very traumatic end.

If I could give it zero stars, I would. I had to pull my child in October and find a new school.A child BROKE HER FINGER and the school didn't call the parents - they sent her back to class with an ice pack. They put all the new families with a new teacher and then gave the new teacher ZERO supplies. Returning families were given fully supplied, seasoned teachers. During the meeting we had once we went to the woman running the school, the principal and head administrator threw the teacher under the bus. They refused to take any responsibility. They refused to agree to a plan of action. They refused to apologize for the principal's hostility. The parents who led the parent organization told us that there had been many problems with the new principal and that the admin refused to do anything about it. They knew and chose to allow her to behave badly.

GOOD SCHOOL, ADMIN, TEACHERS AND AFTER SCHOOL YPI PROGRAM ALONG WITH MS. CRISTI FOR THE MORNING

Yes to review Oct 17,2014 the new afterschool YPI project is ver bad unprofessional woman in charge should learn her manners to adults, kids both. She is bad example to all her staff she rather socialize with than work her job. She let kids run free with no adults around out in the field or betwen school building very dangerous and when you pick up kid early they don't know where kid is, take 20 minutes to find kid or they send you to yourself looking for your kid is not in the class. And takes weeks to start new year of classes. No structure no orgnize no manners. Kristi who ran before was very better never such problems. School admins is never budget right they last year had to raise money to pay lights bill! Always asking parents for moneys, supplies for school office and too also the classes! If your kid is not normal to them they will want you out of the school they only want the smart and normal perfect kids or they will give you many problems to make you want to leave te school. This is our family experience. Yes the parent are good and many teachers good too but not the admins so much and not the aftershool YPI no not at all. Could be so good but need many trainings!

Multicultural Learning Center (MLC) is extraordinary. Small classroom size teaching, with consistent reflection on how the students are adapting, learning, behaving and growing. For the 2014/15 school year, communication has been ramped up. The administration is always working to find positive solutions and changes, not just quick momentary fixes (which are also sometimes necessary). The parental involvement is very good. This is a long term commitment for the students to become bi-literate in two languages, and well worth it. In addition, the students experience a caring family-like environment that is truly multicultural.

Parental involvement in the school is exceptional! the disappointing thing is the principal and the new staff members that have been hired in both daytime and afterschool program. They are disrespectful and show not enthusiasm for their job. Student are no longer involved as they were before the new afterschool program came into place. The administrators are also disrespectful and make me ,as well as the other parents, wish they would remove the principal, underperforming staff, and complete removal of the new YPI program

A few of the previous reviews definitely do not represent the opinions of the entire MLC community (nor do they follow the "GreatSchools review guidelines"). Of course, all posts are subjective and each family has their own experience with the teachers, administration, parents, and students. Our experience has been phenomenal, and my children are thriving in a supportive, academically challenging, innovative, inclusive environment. I have volunteered for years at the school (in the classroom, at Parent Council events, on field trips, etc.), and I have felt welcomed, appreciated and part of the partnership in educating my children. I am overwhelmed by the dedication and energy of the teachers and administration. No school is without challenges, growing pains, staff turnover, or conflicting personalities, but for our family, MLC is providing excellent and rare opportunities in education and in life.

Principal lacks teaching credentials and was given the position of principal because her mother was the former principal and was handed down the position. The new principal, Gayle Nadler, has made horrible decisions in the past few couple years and the quality has become horrendous. The kids no longer feel happy or comfortable as they did before, they no longer trust the principal, as well as the staff members. Highly regret taking my child there. -Submitted by a parent
