This school has taught both of our children the skills that they needed to become incredible young women. The teaching style is amazing! We love SELS!

My two children have attended Sierra Expeditionary Learning School for the last 4 years, about to start our fifth year there. I had no pre conceptions really when we started there. We got in via the lottery and decided to try something new, afterall, worse thing that could happen was to leave and go to one of the other schools in the district if we didn't like it. Truckee is lucky ebough to have many wonderful options within our great school district. We love SELS. Our children thrive there. My husband and I wish we learned this way when we were in school. Our boys love learning , they are fully engaged in their learning, they are excited and thrilled to be at school. The way in which the learning happens at SELS is inspiring. We love the teachers and the high expectations. Everything the kids do at school is done for a reason, things have a purpose! We love the feeling of community and the use of strength, integrity, empathy, respect, responsibility and adventure within the student's learning and character development. We are so grateful for the kind of education our kids are experiencing at this school.

I had the most awful experience with the school. This school is so blinded by it's own ego that it fails to see anything beyond it. It boasts that it stands apart by teaching character education, but your child will only come away from this school with a solid understanding of hypocrisy. They preach collaboration but aren't willing to collaborate much with the school district or with other teachers, even walking out on a professional development day in front of the whole district. Teachers keep materials to themselves and aren't willing to share like I've seen at other schools. They say they have the best interest of the children but seem to only be concerned with building their reputations, both as teachers and as a school, putting what truly matters on the back-burner and lacking completely in emotional intelligence with the students and staff. I would recommend Glenshire or any other school in the district over this one.

In just one year, SELS has become a wonderful, involved community of parents and children. It is a loving, nurturing, adventurous environment full of respectful children and educators who all believe "there are no passengers -- we are all crew."
