The most impressive thing about Custom Learning Academy (CLA) is the small class sizes. The average class size is around 6 students, with no more than 10 in any class. With this small class size, students that might have academic/motivational/behavioral difficulties get enough individual attention that they are able to succeed. Students that are gifted in one or more areas are able to conveniently move ahead even at the elementary level. Overall this is how all schools really should be

I wish I had a school like this when I was in school. The small class sizes (10 or less per teacher), allows students to get the individual attention they need in order to get extra review, or get challenged by new material. Students also get an assessment at the beginning of the year based on skill level so all students (even elementary) can get placed in an appropriate class for each subject. A great staff is the cherry on top!

We love CLA of Truckee. Our kindergartener has thrived there and we look forward to supporting the school for years to come. We could not bear the thought that our child who needed the support of a small classroom would become swallowed in a large class setting. CLA is the right school for us.

This school allows you to pay for your child's grades while teaching them nothing. Beware, because it will make changing schools a real challenge.

Having a child go to school at CLA is like being apart of a new family. The faculty here go above and beyond to meet every student's differing needs. My child is very high need and he has blossomed at CLA. The teacher's and administrator's passion for education is evident. They really make the environment one of nurturing while providing a rigorous and challenging curriculum and keeping the focus on academic self-esteem. I love that CLA has fine arts as part of it's curriculum for all students, art, music, drama and foreign language. They've also managed to create a great physical education program utilizing the trout creek rec. center next door for yoga and outdoor play, as well as the nearby cross country ski area.The kids do awesome field trips to farms, outdoor ed. camping trips, yosemite, community garden and the planetarium to name a few. The only thing I would say needs improvement is organization and communication with parents from the administrative side of the school. School events and activities can sometimes seem chaotic or poorly planned.

Thank you CLA for showing that Truckee kids CAN get a good education! My kids were at Glenshire and after losing programs and teachers, etc, we threw in the towel and made the move to CLA ... and haven't looked back! Every student has DRAMA, ART, PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS (piano, drums, voice or guitar), FOREIGN LANGUAGE (Spanish, French, German, even sign language)! Not only do the kids get an incredible education, but they also get all these extras! Yes, it's expensive, but no more (and probably less) than the private schools in the bay area - and less than full time nursery school! I promise, it's WORTH IT! (CLA is K-12. Also, Lisa keeps the class sizes 10 (or less) kids to 1 teacher.)

Custom Learning Academy is the best thing to happen to Truckee in years. The school is a full time K-12 school and the teachers teach the student, not for a test. It provides more for the excelling student and strong solid base of learning to the student who may be struggling to excel. The 10-1 ratio is well managed and creates an interactive unique setting for learning. The school is a welcome energy of teaching in our community. Thank you CLA.

Typical dumbed down teach to the test private school. Instructors can't speak proper English. Very cookie cutter sterile homogeneous student body.
