This school has some very tricky issues but it is a good school. The staff works very hard to highlight the students when possible and work with what very very little they are given. I work here as well as being a student and honestly there is no communication between staff members at all. They are doing their best while being yelled at by parents and playing a game of telephone with everyone.

First of all I want to say “WLS4kids” is very misleading and a flat out lie. They are NOT for the kids. I cannot speak for the teachers. I will say that my son really enjoyed his short 5 weeks at Whitmer. He was 5 weeks into his Freshman year when the school unenrolled him without verbally speaking to me or reaching out to me at the very least to see if there was a reasonable explanation to why they were told that we do not live at the address when they came out to do a residence check. They had my phone number, why not call me, the mother to see if there was an error and instead of going to 3517 the went to 3511 because the 7 looked like a 1. So they handled the situation like all others. Unenroll the student right away. As soon as they were told there is nobody by that name that lives here they went back to the administration building started the paperwork But did not send home one letter with my son indicating there was a question about our residence and asking me to correct it. They cannot possibly care about the kids after seeing how they handled our situation. And to top it off the school has open enrollment and below average state testing scores so why would anyone need or even want to give a wrong address so their child can attend this school? If I didn’t live in district I woulda have just registered him and filled out the open enrollment form . I am so disappointed with the way they handled our situation when it was all just a typo mistake. Then the process to re enroll him required a ridiculous amount of extra documentation to prove our residence. Do they think they are the Harvard of Toledo? It’s obvious they have a very high opinion of themselves. I don’t know how with the recent results of State Testing.

I would do a lot of things to avoid coming here ever again. Made my anxiety and depression worse. Other students will harass you. The bathrooms could be cleaner. Some of these teachers don't do enough teaching and just whip piles and piles of work onto you. At lunch they make you pay for the good stuff when some schools give out the same type of stuff for free. Other than that though the food can be really good sometimes, though they are stingy with the portions of food you get. Some teachers only give you a certain amount of passes for you to leave and go to the restroom each quarter, that's weird and a little bit too controlling. Some teachers put grades as a zero BEFORE its due. The gym teacher makes us walk around the gym as sports are going on around us at the same time, which causes people to get smacked with a ball, sometimes he will let us walk in the hallway instead but mostly we walk in the gym. People will try to steal from you like stealing pins off of backpacks, or the time someone snatched the pencil out of my backpack pocket. This school has caused me and a whole lot of others too cry inside and outside of this school time and time again. The teachers (most of them) are really annoying and don't try hard enough to make learning fun or entertaining. Some people here are really really dirty (i know certain peoples situations aren't the best I get that sorry if you have something going on at home) but its really bad sometimes. One time a random dog broke into the school running around the halls and onto other floors (I loved the dog though they were so cute and friendly) like i usually only have fun in this school when something not caused by the school happens. Gum is everywhere outside. We stare at a screen all day for everything, i am now near sighted because of technology (my phone didn't help but school making us look at smart boards or computers all day didn't help either) and will have to go to the doctor to ask about whats wrong with my eyes and if i need glasses some time this year. If you are already mentally ill this school will most likely make your mental health worse like it did to mine and many others I know. Overall its a below okay school but its probably better than the other schools in the area, but that's not saying much. Anime club is fun at least. And if you are antisocial and considered weird like me then you can probably find some good friends (a lot of people here toxic though so be careful)

I don't even know where to start. The problem is the district, the superintendent, and the board primarily. There is so much disorganization administratively. They are dishonest and do a lot of hiding and making excuses. The special education department is incredibly poor. Their primary goal appears to be paying students through whether they are ready or not. Instead of taking the time to teach a child with behavior issues to write, they just have an aid do the writing for them, for instance. When my son failed a class, they did not require him to do any sort of summer school. He graduated, and feels completely incapable of any success. How they handled the pandemic has been beyond disappointment. My child contacted the virus at school. When I contacted them, they didn't even answer my numerous emails for 2 weeks. After that, they completely failed to contact any of the people my child was in contact with. Though I love many of the teachers, the administration and the corrupt board over shadow any of the positive things the teachers bring. Perhaps it is a Toledo thing. As, the entire city is a terrible mess of a place to live. Move to a suburb and go to a better district.

Loved my high school experience at whitmer! The best piece of advice I can give, is get involved because it is well worth it!

I spent my entire academic career in Washington Local and not only felt prepared academically for my future, I continue to feel a sense of community years later. Whitmer provided the depth and diversity to help make me successful today.

Lots of different classes, many extracurricular activities and many ways to earn college credit through high school courses. I look forward to my children attending Whitmer as I did when I was a high school student.

Okay here's the deal. I am a Junior at Whitmer, and I have enjoyed every year I've had in attendance (all three). I've gone to both Maumee and Washington Junior Highs (Washington local) and I've found that here, in this district, the socially diversity is so much more extensive than any other district I've been to. There is literally a place for every one to fit in and not be left out. Teachers treat you like young adults (as long as you act like one) and I've personally found that even in classes I'm uninterested in, I've become good friend's with the teachers, they enjoy what they do. In my freshman year, I found myself just going through the motions of high school without much involvement rather than education (don't do sports or extracurriculars) that is until joining welding sophomore year where I found my family that I had wanted all along. Saying that Whitmer is focused on athletics is absurd. We are so much more. We don't only rise in the fall, we are welders, automotive and computer technicians, we are culinary scholars and economically aware, college prepared, spirit proud, maize & blue sporting students, friends, family, club members and industrialists. We are Whitmer.
