My sons learned a lot from this school. The teacher sees hes potential that he can be. They were supportive in every way that kids can learn and grow more.

My daughter has grown not only academically but her behavior has been shaped us well. She Became well behaved, polite and knowledgeable in 1 school year. I know the school had very positive impact on her transformation.

For various reasons we have changed schools a lot and have finally found a school that meets all of our needs. Caring and attentive staff, good communication, and the extra help for my son with a speech impediment and speech delay. While still providing the tools for my daughter to succeed in her academics.

We've had absolutely a wonderful experience since Kinder, now going into third grade. We couldn't be happier with staff, teachers, the campus or volunteers

My daughters have had a great school year! Awesome teachers. Great events and extra curricular activities. Lots of parent involvement.

It's funny how on these reviews the "parent?" is complaining about how their kids come home and don't feel they have learned anything; and can't believe they have an 8 of 10 on ranking? Do you work with your kids with their homework? Do you challenge them about what they learned in school? Maybe it's your parenting? These are states exams. Obviously they are learning things? If you child has ADHD, then it's your job to get them on a 504 program to give them more time with their tests and into a mgt program for ADHD learning, it's not the teachers responsibility. My daughter went their for kinder and is currently going for 5th grade, loves her teacher and loves her school. I highly recommend Apperson. They currently have events that more involve the community and that's a good thing.

This school needs major help. My son had two wasted years here. 1st and 2nd grade did not prepare him. the teachers are terrible. they just care about their paycheck. his particular class was out of control and chaotic with different teachers every 3-4 weeks. No continuity for my child. I would not recommend this school to anyone. I've never experienced more frustration than I have at this school. Do not waste your child's time here.

I would not recommend this school at all I have had issues with the principal, teachers and the pta staff. They don't care about the students or what the parents have to say really really disappointed im glad my child doesn't go there anymore!!!

This is our first year at Apperson. My child has been warmly welcomed. I absolutely love our teacher. I feel the school does challenge my child academically. I didn't have much interaction with Mrs. Purcell, however, I can say that I have had interaction with the new principal Mrs. Smissen and every time I have spoken to her I have walked away from the conversation better informed and with a positive feeling. I feel like she is a go-getter and she is ready to make some positive changes to an already amazing school! And, she used to be a teacher for several years! Honestly, I feel like she is very straightforward and she easily relates as a parent, teacher, and administrator. The PTA has been amazing at answering questions and helping lead the way as my child is in kindergarten and I was new to the game. We can't wait to see what is in store for next year. I recommend anyone who is interested go check the place out! It's been a great year.

Apperson Elementary has been a terrible school this school year. My child has been neglected by sub after sub all school year !! The classroom is wild and chaotic. I am very involved and I volunteer. This is why I am aware. My child could not concentrate due to the loud, out of control atmosphere. They do not have a steady teacher in the classroom. Every 30 days its a new one. I do hope this new principal can create a much needed change. If your child needs extra help of any kind they will not receive it at Apperson. As a parent I am extremely frustrated with this school. They have not met my child's needs.

This school is a great school, I have a 5th grade and kinder had great experience will continue to attend. Principal Mrs. Smissen is awesome interacts with students, they love her she is very involved. Parents should get more involved to see what really goes on-helping out in classrooms, have communication with teachers, school budgets, districts policies and why teachers are moved around and what they are require to teach. Since I started getting involved I have more of understanding what goes on.

My school is fabulous. The teachers are well rounded, I feel at home and included when I am there. I believe that my child is safe on campus, and with the proper paperwork, I have access to her when I need it. The curriculum is heavy but necessary for a solid educational foundation.

The principal in 2013 should work with the surrounding neighborhood for a more cohesive environment.

This is our third year at Apperson and so far we have had a wonderful experience. All of the students visit the computer lab, science center, and library once a week, which is fantastic. One of the reasons this school is so great is due to the amount of parent volunteers - there are so many that help in the classrooms, labs, with the PTA, etc. We have lots of fun events throughout the year sponsored by the PTA (Ice Cream Social, Fall Festival, Holiday Shop, Book Fair, etc) - and they keep getting better every year! We have been very happy with our teachers so far, and the office staff is friendly. Maybe we don't have the world's best principal, but everything else is enough to keep us here.

I have 2 children at Apperson who transferred from another local school. Apperson has exceeded our expectations. My oldest child has ADHD and an IEP. The staff have all been strength based, warm, and open to creative problem solving to make his class placement a win-win for my son, his peers, and teacher. There were several teacher changes due to administrative reasons, but I have been impressed with each teacher based on their level of skill, dedication to working with the students, and open communication. My daughter is also thriving and happy in her class. She is in an awesome girl scout troop after school and my son plays in the orchestra . There is also a computer lab and science center that students go to once a week - none of these features were available at the other school. Most importantly, my kids are happy and learning. We have found a caring environment where everyone takes a genuine personal interest in the well being of the students. I do see it as our responsibility as parents to partner with the school to help all our children succeed.

I am so very disapointed in this school. We transfered my daughter to this school 2 years ago, and chose it because it rated 8 out of 10 in best schools... so it had to be a great school, right? Wrong!!! If your child is "above average" then you will be fine here, but if your child is lacking or struggeling in any way, shape or form then STAY AWAY from this school, they will make your life miserable. The teachers were telling my daughter that she would be better off at Sunland Elementary, they hounded me to get her tested for ADHD, once she was diagnosed with mild ADHD then the school no longer had a place for her and I basically had no choice but to transfer her to a new school. They made sure the transfer was made before testing to make sure that she didn't lower their scores. I gave it one star for the fact that Janet in the front office is great, I watch her with the kids in the morning and they love her. Also this is the hardest PTA that I have ever seen... I got annoyed with the constant fundraising, but they had so much more for the kids because of it.

This is not my home school. I vetted many of the area schools including private schools and chose Apperson. I have two boys currently in 3rd and 1st grade respectively. I am very impressed with the teachers my sons have had and with the PTA which is an integral part of this school. LAUSD would never be my district of choice but the PTA at this school does everything it can to subsidize the district's deficiencies. My sons' have the benefit of a computer lab, a science lab and a library just to mention a few of the projects the PTA of Apperson brought to fruition over the course of many years. I have never been involved with a more diverse and inclusive group than with this school's faculty and this PTA. - Michelle Miller

i d have to say that this school is probobly the typical for the big disctrict LAUSD. Familys do come to this school when they easily pass one or two other schools . Most of our childs teachers so far have been adequate with our help from home by keeping up to date ourselves with what the standards are. I dropped a star off becuase of safety in the morning. I have nearly rearended and been rearended because of the traffic. There are plenty of helpers opening car doors but some pay more attention to each other and talking to the kids and adults on the sidewalk around them then the cars pulling up with children to drop off. Most kids just get out themselves and walk from whereever they were stuck in line so those who wait for help with littler ones get beeped at or someone up our tail wanting to drive through but now are stuck in the cone lane. . I recommend park and walk your child yourself.
