As my daughter moves to middle school, I would like to thank the teachers and staff at Cowden Elementary for giving her the skills needed for this next step in her journey. The teachers took the time to build relationships with her that will last a lifetime. Thank you, Dr. Norman for leading your teachers and students. Cowden has instilled leadership skills, and given her the tools to be successful, not only in school, but in life. Thank you for everything. She misses Cowden already.

My kids love Cowden. My middle schooler still talks about his amazing experiences he had in elementary school. My daughter leads and learns in such an amazing way at Cowden. The learning is top tier and the skills my kids have learned that will make them successful adults is unmatched anywhere else.

My 10-year-old son has autism and ADHD. When he was in kindergarten, before this was diagnosed, he struggled quite a lot with his social interactions and behavior (this is still a struggle but much less so). Instead of trying to understand why he might do something, they just punished him and suspended him, and his kindergarten teacher was especially rude and dismissive. At one point, they called in a police officer to "help" contain him. What he did was absolutely not okay, but I was horrified to be called into the school to find my 5-YEAR-OLD SON being held down by a cop.At no point did they consider he might be neurodivergent or actually try to help him in any way. Their understanding and empathy for neurodivergent students, especially extremely young students, is lacking in every way, and the way they treated a struggling 5-year-old child is absolutely disgusting.

Excellent school! The staff loves my child and he’s grown academically and socially/emotionally. Highly recommended.

Wow my grandson goes here and I never knew that this school is so far behind basically in everything in Springfield and Missouri. I hope to take him out next year. Teachers should really take concern about this as you teach these children and it does not look good on you. Do not blame it on the school!

I think it's awful that no one stands outside during morning drop off. I worry a younger child will have forgotten something and run back outside and get ran over or stolen. I've never seen a school that didn't have people outside monitoring morning drop off. One morning my kinder was outside alone for several minutes because no teacher was outside. In the mornings some parents walk up to the door. I worry daily my quiet little girl will be stolen at that time as their is no other warning. Kids have gone to three other schools and all others have someone outside during morning drop off...this needs to change. Also the principal needs to smile more.

My daughter went hear and I did not like the principal in 2012 school year, Mrs. Norman seemed to act like she was better than those around her... She acted like a drill sergeant!

I would recommend this school for any parent to bring their children to. The principal knows our entire family and speaks to us everytime she sees us. The staff takes their time to really get to know you and your child!
