My now second grader started at this school speaking no Spanish and now speaks Spanish comfortably. I attribute it to the fact that the school is entirely Spanish immersion so the language on the playground is Spanish. Plus aftercare through Mission Graduates on-site is in Spanish. Many teachers have been at the school for over a decade, and the newer teachers have been excellent as well. The school has a lot of traditions that celebrate the diversity of its students, like a Flag Day where the students parade around the block holding flags of their heritage.

I have been a parent at Marshall for 11 years. My three children have all attended Marshall from K-5 (my youngest is a current 5th grader). Marshall has been an wonderful experience for both my kids and us as parents. The school is in an urban environment, but feels like a cozy oasis. To would be expected, the staff has changed over the decade I have been involved with the school, but the teachers have been consistently excellent. They care about the diverse community they serve and try to balance the needs of each student. The bilingual Spanish education has been invaluable for my children, who speak English at home. They interact organically with students and teachers in Spanish and English, and have developed both extensive language skills and overall communication skills that come from speaking in multiple languages on a daily basis.I would highly recommend Marshall!

Marshall has been an incredible school for our family. My daughter started in kindergarten and is now in 1st grade, and we’ve been continually impressed by the sense of community and dedication among students, staff, and parents. The kindness and empathy fostered here are truly special. The school’s small size allows for a close-knit environment where everyone works together to help the kids thrive. The Spanish immersion program has been fantastic—my daughter has learned to read and speak proficiently in Spanish. She’s also gained confidence, social skills, and a strong sense of empathy, which we value above all.We also love the additional programs like the weekend soccer games, the garden program, and the community events, which bring families together and enrich the school experience. The teachers and staff are deeply passionate and caring, and the principal’s leadership is exceptional.Marshall isn’t pretentious like many other San Francisco schools; it has a grounded, down-to-earth community that truly supports each child’s development. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nurturing, community-driven environment for their kids.

Our family has been at Marshall for six years and our youngest will start here next fall. Our kids love going to school, and their teachers know them deeply. We ranked Marshall high on our lottery list because of its immersion environment, small size, and low teacher turnover rate. Throughout our time at the school, those features have nurtured our kids’ growth, academically and socially. My oldest, who started at Marshall speaking no Spanish and is now fluent, is thriving in middle school.

Marshall Elementary School in the Mission has been an amazing experience for our family! We currently have a kindergartener and a 3rd grader attending and we couldn't be happier with the school's environment. Our kids have rapidly picked up Spanish through the dual-language immersion program. We've had the chance to connect with families from across Latin America, as well as from a variety of other cultural backgrounds, creating a vibrant and diverse community. The teachers at Marshall are truly top-notch. They are incredibly supportive, dedicated, and go above and beyond to ensure each child’s success, both academically and personally. Our children feel seen and nurtured every day, which is invaluable. The social-emotional support at Marshall is exceptional. Ms. Elaine, the school's social worker, has been an incredible resource, helping to foster a positive environment where our kids feel safe and supported.Principal Noah Ingber is also truly outstanding—his leadership and dedication to the students and families are evident in everything he does. We're so grateful to be a part of this warm, inclusive, and supportive school community! In addition, the on-site aftercare program, Mission Graduates, is incredible. My kids never want me to pick them up early.

I have 2 kids at Marshall who have been there since kindergarten. Teachers and staff are super committed and very responsive. We have an amazing after school option Mission Graduates that is high quality and fun. And my kids can read and write and speak Spanish which is such an amazing offering from SFUSD. More than anything we love the community at Marshall. There is a lot of joy there. It is a small school where everybody know each other and looks out for each other. Plus the location is super convenient with a BART stop around the corner and lots of Muni options. My 5th grader is well prepared for middle school next year. We can't recommend this school enough. It is a total gem!

One of the warmest, most genuinely kind communities I've come across during my tours of SFUSD kindergartens this past tour season. Sure, test scores are terrible but this is because the school serves many folks who are new to this country, and these scores are not reflective of the education or teacher quality. Teacher turnover is very low, and average years of experience is very high, which results in excellent classroom management that's good for kids who thrive in a calm environment that's not loud or overwhelming. I've spoken to multiple Marshall families at this point to vet the school before we rank it #1, and all of them love the teachers and the education. Their children are thriving and reading and writing in both English and Spanish. Class sizes stay small all the way through 5th grade, and there's no combined 4th and 5th. I love that Marshall is big on hands-on learning and a lot of field trips--this is because the school is well-funded thanks to its Title I status which means that the PTA haul can go to enrichment experiences rather than having to fund the librarian as is the case at other SFUSD schools. Field trips have included science hiking in Muir woods, the kids publishing their own books, learning how to make podcasts, Cat in the Hat play in Berkeley, Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills via a private bus, and going to the symphony. The PTA also funded a Shakespeare program that came on site to add to the curriculum. I hear over and over again that teachers don't leave the school, they just shift into different roles--for example, the current principal was formerly the literacy coach. The principal is an absolute star. I liked how much supervision I saw on the playground by actual staff who were hands-on. The the kids here all seem happy, engaged, and not stressed, and were welcoming to my daughter on the tour, some even invited her to play with them. There's also a Gay Straight Alliance club and chess for the older grades. The literacy coach Mr. Gomez's response to my question about how they handle conflict-resolution was fabulous, detailed, and clearly demonstrated how involved staff is in making sure every student has the same social-emotional tools.

We have two children at Marshall, both since kinder, now in second and fifth grades. We've been incredibly happy. It's a warm and loving schools with excellent staff and a highly diverse student body. The low test scores are not a reflection of the quality of the school-- they are a reflection of the fact that a large number of families at the school are recent immigrants and refugees struggling to start a life in the US. We love that our children read and write in both English and Spanish. And even more than that, we know our kids have gained invaluable life lessons from being in a diverse and inclusive urban community. They will leave the school ready not just for the next level of school but also to get along and thrive in life.

We were there for K-5. Excellent teachers, parents, and admin. I would strongly recommend this school to everyone. Especially non-spanish speaking families. We are very familiar with the spanish language now and our son is fluent.

My son has been going to Marshall for the past 2 years. It really feels like a home away from home. There is a strong sense of community and that your child matters. Since its a small school even the 5th grade teachers will know the 1st grade students. This is good because it gives you a sense of security and that someone is always looking out for your child. The neighborhood is gritty but I dont even think the kids notice. Only negative other than the neighborhood is the small yard doesnt hold allot of room, however I dont know if the kids even mind. Love this school for my son.

Marshall is a hidden gem in the school system. There is a tremendous sense of community and very little teacher turn over.
