The equity based, project based learning, and sense of community is everything I’ve hoped for my children. To me, this should be a model school of how to build a great community of diverse learners and families. We love This school, their teachers, the leadership, and the students.

I recommend this school if it's in your area only. I highly recommend being direct while your kids attend this school. My kids have had mixed experiences here that includes bullying. The principle is difficult to work with and they have not done their due diligence. My kids have had periods of being afraid to go due to bullying and a lack of support unless you make a lot of noise. However, there have been a few wonderful teachers that have made the journey easier. So just be sure to note all bullying instances and contact the principle each time so she is aware. Keep a log. Have meetings with teachers and principle because you can easily fall in the cracks.

This is an amazing school and I believe the rating is dated. We live a block away from an elementary that is a deserved 9 (our other child attended) and we drive 15 min every morning so our child can attend this school instead. Its project based STEAM learning is fantastic. The staff is incredible. The leadership engaged. The parents are diverse and involved. So happy our child has the opportunity to be here.

We Are Locomotives! Our STEAM school is located in the heart of Midtown Sacramento. We foster student leadership through daily school wide, student-led Mindfulness Yoga, buddies- TK-6th grade, student librarians and peer mediators to name a few. Our team is lead by an incredible group of educators who have cultivated a deeper learning and expertise of Project Based Learning that centers our diverse community. Our site host 2 back-to-back SCUSD Teachers of the Year 2022-23 and 2023-24 respectively.

This is our neighborhood school and it is a gem: equity-focused, hands-on learning, very little homework, engaging curriculum, pretty little campus right downtown. My kids were previously at a high-pressure East Sacramento school, but they are learning so much better at Washington and enjoy school so much more. Very happy we made the jump.
