Bullying and social exclusion at such young age! My kids teacher barely knew what’s happening at the school playground. Mean kids show ‘racism’ and systematically depressing my kid. And no help is provided by the teacher in building healthy relationships. Instead my kid had to withdraw and acted in certain way which got the poor kid into more trouble. When my kid complained about someone, the teacher would just make faces saying no whining.

The Teachers and staff are excellent. There standard of education is very high. My kid enjoys it so much here.

My son attended this school a few years ago and had a terrible experience. Look at the Student Progress session and you'll notice the biggest problem. Kids don't make good progress in this school. If your kids are bright, don't send them here. They'll just get ignored and not make much progress. Data speaks louder than personal experience. Good reviews might be from someone who wants to sell their over-priced house

The staff don't spend time on the kids who are above the standards though they offer good services to kids with learning disabilities.

Decent but not great. If you get a good teacher, you are lucky. Some teachers shame the kids into doing the work instead of helping them. The principal doesn’t listen to criticism and the office secretary is super grouchy all the time.

New building, clean and well kept. Principal is always walking around the school, talking to the kids and teachers. The office staff are nice. Lots of parent volunteers to help the teachers. Some really great teachers like Mrs Brady in 1st Grade who is experienced in helping kids with disabilities integrate into her class make this a good school. My son loved attending her class last year.

The principal is amazing. She cares about all her kids and staff and it shows in long-term, happy staff and happy kids. Anything brought up needing to be addressed is given swift attention. She is hands-on observing classrooms and creatively motivating kids. The staff she hires are fantastic. The campus is clean and nice. She office staff are the BEST. The nurse is wonderful. I know my daughter is in good hands here.

Horace Mann Elementary is one of those schools that get listed in real estate listings as "highly desirable," but after several years of experience with the school, I'm still trying to figure out why. It's a good school, but not a great school. The facilities are top-notch and there are some excellent teachers, but getting the great ones is a crap-shoot. And the fall-off from the excellent teachers can be significant. As with other area schools (I would guess), the school is consumed with test scores and the school year is spent preparing students for the standardized tests, but not necessarily learning.

Mann Elementary students, staff, parents and community continue to improve on the superior performances exhibited by this elementary school. The District and community provided a new green sustainable school in 2003 with good lighting, day-lighted classrooms, ample ventilation and modern audio visual equipment. Principal Spaulding and her experienced motivated staff challenge students from Kindergarten onward with homework, spelling test, nightly reading goals and conversation starters for parents. The PTSA is extremely engaged by providing numerous enrichment programs like Knights of the Multiplication Table and Spanish Club, School Services like IXL Math and Accelerated Reading Test and an Art Docent Program all totaling an annual PTSA budget of $48,600.00. Parents are really involved as there are typically 5 to 10 background checked parents in each classroom per week to assist teachers and students by reading books, listening to young readers or performing clerical task. The results are students who continue to improve on prior exemplary test scores which place the school in the Top 5 District-wide. We are fortunate to have students in such a highly performing school.
