At Durant Road High School they don't treat you well because the teachers have preferences and if they bully you, they don't pay attention to you. That happened to my daughter. Furthermore, the director will not give you her support.

Teachers are very engaged with parents. Very safe school environment. My son went there all 3 years and never had any issues with the school. If you do look at charter schools, I would suggest you visit them to understand their environments which are very different in structure and diversity. We had no issues at Durant Middle School and found it a great experience.

Went here for all of middle, teachers were a hit or miss, they would have annual award ceremony’s for “best academic students” really just the teachers pets. Principal left without a trace middle of the year. Would not recommend

Absolutely TERRIBLE. I do not recommend this school, do yourself a favor and look into some of the amazing charter schools in the area. They actually care about your child, Durant Road Middle does not.

Great things are happening at Durant since changes in admin. Awesome faculty, smart student body.

I approached the school year knowing it would be very different from my children’s previous experiences at school, but wholly unprepared for the atmosphere here. Students are out of control. Discipline and order are scarce. Violence erupts often. Perpetrators lie and avoid punishment, or worse accuse the victim of racism and get the victim in trouble. There are no books and it is difficult to access assignments and curriculum as each teacher uses a different program (Google classroom, Weebly, handouts, etc.) The curriculum is “project based” so students are grouped together to complete work. This makes it difficult for more advanced or diligent children to get work done because they have to babysit their peers. Teachers struggle to keep order in their classrooms as outbursts are frequent. Not all of this is the fault of the teachers and staff, because many of these students have zero home training to speak of, but they fail to enact stricter policies on conduct, and so the students continue their poor behavior. Durant used to be a great school, but as demographics in the area changed, so did the caliber of student arriving to be educated. I would avoid this school, if at all possible. If not, prepare your child to work in a very distracting environment and to defend themselves if necessary.

My child has had a great experience here at Durant Middle. The educational program and band program is wonderful. Mr. Kuni, the band director is awsome!!! I have not experienced any problems with the school.

The 8th Grade this year I would say the communicate skills have depleted tremendously among the 8th grade staff members. I don't know if they figure the children heading to High School it not important to still communication with the parent/s. Especially if vital information needs to be exchanged about grades, behaviors or even attendance. Yes attendance your child my be marked absent even if your the one dropping them off to school everyday. Question, it worries a parent. Then where is my child ? if you see then walking in the doors of the school. No responds to email. The front office receptionist can be rude and unprofessional at time. She just their for a paycheck not for customer service. Remember she is the first face to see which should be representation of DMS. If you like teachers with good communication skills and a receptionist with a smile then this definitely not the middle you want your child to attend.

Amazing leadership- always responsive and make me feel welcome! Good to be kept involved. Parents are encouraged to visit. Mrs. Allen and Mr. Lassiter run things! I hope WCPSS appreciates them. They handle things after hours and really care about this school. I had some bad experiences with schools and not taking care of things. Not so at DRMS- they do it right. From buses to lunch room it's on point.

Spring 2016 :The school is going through a lot of teacher turnover for Fall 2016/Spring 2017 with budget cuts. Also your school experience is different depending on which year round track you are assigned. The core teachers that are affiliated with each track are how you will judge your school experience. Be sure to research the tracks and teachers but know that you may not be guaranteed those teachers with all of the administrative cuts and decisions being made.

My son started in 6th grade at Durant Middle School and I have been very pleased thus far. I find that the teachers are VERY involved and responsive. I was impressed when after two weeks, I was contacted to let me know areas in which my son was struggling academically. The teachers took the time to talk with me, discuss strategies to improve performance, etc. The website for the school allows parents and students to see what is required of them for homework, homework is checked daily and graded. Teachers are accessible and responsive and my son has been happy here so far. I commend the public school teachers at Durant for working in a difficult profession, that does not make them rich, and yet they still care about their students and the job they are doing. I would recommend Durant and encourage all parents to be active participants in their children's success at school by reinforcing the teachers' expectations of good behavior in school and academic accountability and performance!

This is my son's second year at Durant in Track 2 and I have not been impressed at all. There is no communication to the parents about what is going on. The teachers do not give any homework (2 years worth) and they allow them to turn their work in at anytime and get a grade for it. They allow kids to disrupt the class with no punishments.

as a 7th grade track two student I have to say this school was pretty scary at first, I came from the Country side of NC and this was the city. Right when I walked into my social studies class a student walked up to me and was instantlly my best friend.then in y pre algebra class i made great friends. The teachers are very kind and understanding. I'd recomend my friends to go here. I'm sad because I had to leave Durant due to the assignment plan. I'm not very happy with the school I got. Wake forest rolesville has very bad reviews and Durant has excellent reviews.

As a track 4 sixth grader my daughter loves this school! The teachers are excellent and supportive. The resource officer is outstanding with keeping the students in check and Principal Sawyer has very frequent phone "blasts" keeping parents informed of all school activities and pertinent news. I highly recommend this school to anyone considering a year round program. Helen G.
