Outside of the IB programme, the classes are subpar at best. Students spend the majority of time sitting around on their phones or napping and not doing any work. Admin appears to support teachers but when it comes down to it, nothing changes. Students that need special services are often overlooked with so many coming from MS with IEPS but not having the same accommodations made here, or they are not being re-evaluated. Often, when asking about a student's needs being met and the possibility of them getting tested we are told that they are not attending consistently so it's pointless. There are WAY too many ways for people to go in and out of the buildings, and during class changes there are no adults monitoring doors. The school does not appear to value the teachers, or subs. Subs are routinely pulled from their assigned duty to take on a different class, which results in the school struggling to get subs at all. Overall, I would not recommend working here OR sending your child here.

I'm a current student and my overall experience at Millbrook has been good at some points and bad at others. My good times so far are most of the people staff/students are friendly, although you may come across a few rude students it's high school so you should sadly expect some kids to be judgy but on the bright side, there aren't any bullies, a bunch of fights to entertain you tho. Now for the staff, there are a few staff members that think of themselves as higher power as if their the boss because your younger, which is childish. But DO NOT FIGHT/ARGUE WITH THEM! It's worth it, if anything tell an adult because if you try handling it yourself they can easily get you in trouble -- Trust me. But overall my Millbrook experience hasn't been so bad, there are a bunch of different friend groups meaning you'll find the right people for you after looking. I'm a junior, I met my friends and boyfriend on Day 1 of freshman year. Also, little advice, don't call everyone your friend because some people I thought were mine ended up leaving me with my true friends. Doesn't mean don't get along or associate yourself with different people. If this is a student reading just try to have fun by doing it the right way. If you are a parent try not to let things catch you off-guard, your child will be introduced to different things while at school. Just know your kid knows much more than you think/taught them!-- Have an amazing time while you are young and still learning!

This school does not have a good grasp of helping all students, not just the band, sports, etc. Drug searches should be allowed and used at different times of year.

Millbrook is a wonderful school with strong leadership, great sports, wonderful arts programs (band, dance, theater, art etc..), and academic rigor that prepares students for life after high school. The IB programme is first class and was recently recognized for its excellence! Every school has its challenges, but I am pleased with how my kids have grown as young students at Millbrook, and am proud to be a part of the Millbrook community.

1/10 terrible this school progressively gets worse and students don’t get treated equaly.

We were excited for the IB diploma program, but only a small percentage of the students actually go on to do it their Junior year. I think most students/parents are excited coming in and then by the time the student reaches their Junior year, students/parents realize the benefits of going the AP route.

Overall I am happy with the education the school provides via the IB program. I do think some of the AP classes are rather useless as they are taught (well one in particular). If you take away the IB program it is another poor performing WC public school with even less rule enforcement. There is a lot of school pride and many offerings so kids can excel if they want. I have been happy with the athletics program and the teachers. It is sooooo much better than our previous school so my standards could be skewed. If you truly want good schools don't move to NC.

Complete lack of integrity in claims for college prep. Do not be mislead by the school's claim that they are an IB school with a high number of students taking advanced courses. In my daughter's graduating class, only 20% of the students graduated with the IB. That is not an IB school, but an IB program within an average-performing school. As for AP classes, she took 4 but did not take the exam for any of them because she was actively discouraged from doing so. She got no college credit, but more importantly how do you know the courses are taught at an advanced level if they do not take a long-standing, national test to demonstrate that? It's all about appearances and avoiding generating actual metrics that show this is an average school. Beware.

Just came from a tour and were told the school's teacher to student ratio is 33 to 1 not 17 to 1. We were there during lunch and saw a decent cross section of the student body, the ratio of students is more like <30% white, 70% other, not 49% white.

Big mistake to choose this school when we moved here. Wanted IB program, but were misinformed and child didn't do it. Programs are not as good as they try to make them out to be. Communication from school is terrible. Staff seems to think returning emails is optional unless admin is cc'd. Only 2 good professionals in Student Services. Disappointing all around.

Art programs need more funding (oddly enough, the sports programs/teams seem to have more than enough money). Office staff, vice principals, and counselors take forever to get back to you regarding concerns. CC the principal in emails if you want a response - don't bother to call and leave a message because it won't be returned. 90% of the teachers are great, 10% of the teachers seem to have "checked out" eons ago. The good teachers aren't paid enough. The school pushes the baccalaureate program and most of the students who participate feel it's a waste of time. The freshman/sophomore mandatory 20 hours/year of volunteer hours (associated with the baccalaureate program) aren't "really" mandatory when you push the principal on it. If your student isn't going to complete the baccalaureate program, don't bother (there is a ridiculous lack of communication on that issue, FYI). The student body seems decent enough and we've never had problems with bullying.

Former student. School is corrupt. During my tenure (08-10), I graduated early since I didn't want to waste my time at a glorified daycare at which there were at least a dozen 'vice principals' who would spend their days chasing around the kids who wanted to skip school by hiding under the upper class men's cars in the parking lot. Public school systems that pay their principals north of 100k per year (August - may) and leave their classrooms and teachers without sufficient resources is sickening

MHS has been a wonderful school for my two children. The IB magnet status has simply made it even better. Ms. King and the staff are outstanding and on top of any issues. The PTSA is the best I've seen and do an excellent job with fundraising and supporting the teaching staff. The staff, PTSA, and many parent volunteers are supportive of all students through clubs, sports, tutoring, mentor program, etc. MHS is a very caring and encouraging environment to help every child succeed.

The leadership at this school is terrific. My daughter spent 8 years in private school before becoming a freshman at Millbrook last year. Millbrook has been a breath of fresh air for her. She loves it there and has continued to do well in class. We are so grateful that the IB Programme has arrived and look forward to the rewarding challenge it will offer her.

Millbrook continues to do great job preparing its students for whatever they choose to do after high school. The new IB program offers even more opportunities for its students. we are lucky to have this school in our community.
