We moved to Powhatan 6 years ago and at that time my oldest son was unable to name his colors or say the alphabet. My son graduates this year and he is now able to read on about a sixth grade level. I have nothing but great things to say about Mrs. Meade, Mrs. Mac, Mrs. Lisker, Mrs. Hall, and everyone who helps with the special needs classes. They are truly angels on earth

Extremely Safe and well rounded Learning Environment. This School has great Facilities and lots of sports programs. The Teachers here are Phenomenal and aren't Political Activists that have become so common in the school systems.

just nowNEWUnless your child is a white male, DO NOT SEND THEM TO POWHATAN HIGH. They may be hate-crimed like that one gentleman in 2020 who got white supremacist symbols draw on his faces and was photographed half naked while passed out, OR you might have the non-POC members of the football team plant electronics in their backpack, then have the police come in armed response to your home, much like another African American student (14 years old.) Powhatan High needs to quit running from this. That poor family was forced to move school districts, move HOMES, because of your negligence and protection of hate-crime behavior. Before I get any comments back from the protectors of hate crime, simply look it up. Powhatan has a distinct history as far as the poor treatment of POC. THINK OF THE TRAUMA YOU HAVE CAUSED THESE CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES.

The teachers there are phenomenal. They are very understanding, respectful, caring, informative, and are always on top of their students grades. The SROs (student resource officers) are extremely funny and very kind. However, disciplinary actions at this school are becoming unfair and unreasonable. Now we get 2 days of OSS (out of school suspension) for tardies, a full day of ISS (in school suspension) for grades, etc. They take our hats for the whole day, constantly out female students on dress code even when others don't have anything said to them, they're always searching students things at random, they do nothing when it comes to the cleanliness of the buses and bathrooms, some classrooms are too small for the subject being taught, there are always broken chairs in the hallways, etc. Like I said, this is an amazing school and we have amazing teachers, but some things could be done better.

2 issues with the staff of this school in less than a month. Getting a response from a teacher to an email from a parent should happen. Period. There should also be appropriate responses to student related issues.

Non responsible teaching and coaching at this school. Disrespecting the National Anthem of the USA is not a responsible act at all. Horrible example.

Powhatan High School is 7 in the Great School rating. A couple years ago it was 8. Does anyone know the reason for the decline?

Powhatan High a School has some of the greatest educators in Virginia. Every school across our nation should be so lucky!

Powhatan High School has a great deal of teaching talent, a nice clean environment, and wonderful parent organizations. I would recommend this school highly.
