    I can’t say enough good things about Corte Madera. My daughter is in 6th grade and is thriving there. The Portola Valley School District has a new superintendent as of two years ago and she’s dynamite. Corte Madera has a new (old) principal this year (she had been vice principal but got promoted) and she’s right of top of it all. CMS was recently named a California Distinguished School by the state. Most teachers are very good (every school has a few who aren’t stellar). The math program caters to three levels of proficiency and the accelerated class really challenges those who want it. The band teacher is charismatic and inspiring. The art teacher pushes the kids hard to explore all aspects of their creativity. There’s a maker lab for lunch and recess. And the school was among the first to return to in-person learning during the Covid pandemic. It’s a really, really good school.

    I had a very good experience at Corte Madera when I attended. The sports programs were very competitive and the academic curriculum was pretty challenging. I've heard that CMS is not entirely the same as it once was though and lost multiple principles and had some of the best teachers when I was there leaving to different schools.

    4th and 5th grade have been a disappointment so far. 3 principals in 3 years, no leadership, lots of changes made to water doen the poorly perforning teachers, so hopefully the middle school is better.
