Frostig has been a life changing school for our son. At his previous school he spent years struggling academically and socially. He was the target of bullying. Because of his diagnosis of autism, previous teachers never assumed competence. He was falling further and further behind and son was became a shell of himself. With our district’s support he switched to Frostig. Our disengaged and depressed child soon felt safe. He began to engage with other kids and opened himself up to learning. When he was assessed upon his acceptance he tested many grade levels below his age. With the interventions put in place at school (Ed therapy, speech therapy, OT and counseling) he quickly began to gain speed. He gained 5 grade levels in 3 years. At his previous school they never believed he would graduate but this year he will and with a diploma. He has friends, he is appropriately challenged academically and he can feel safe from bullying. We couldn’t be happier that we took the change to move him. We wish we had done it sooner!

Our child absolutely LOVES Frostig. They have many friends and feel truly accepted there. As parents, we love the:--Nurturing, caring teachers and staff--Wonderful arts program (drama, music, art classes weekly)--Robust PE program --Extra services offered on site (ed therapy, counseling, OT, etc.)--Strong parents association--Pretty campus with warm, inviting classrooms and a nice playground. No school is right for everybody, but it's been great for us. We encourage all parents to check it out. Even it it's not close to you, the drive is worth it, and your school district may be able to help.

Frostig has been a life-saver for our son who struggled for years in his local school with lots of supports. Before Frostig, it seemed he fell further and further behind despite fighting for--and getting--more and more supports. He was defeated by school and shut down as soon as anything became hard. Our son has autism, struggles with frustration, and must use assistive technology for his fine motor challenges. At Frostig, he didn't stick out as the different kid and the nurturing and accepting environment really helped. During the first year, he made great strides in learning to advocate for himself and I could tell the teachers were watching to see when/how to push him further when he was ready. So grateful for Frostig!

My son loved it there. It gave him the confidence to live life with his disabilities and how to advocate for himself

This school has changed our son's life. He can succeed, he has found friends, it is not a daily struggle as it was at his previous school. He looks forward to school now. Academically, we've seen huge improvements - in his vocabulary, in his breadth of knowledge, in his ability to think about things and to share that with us. Amazingly, this year his reading ability went from testing at a fourth grade level to a ninth grade level-his current grade. We are so grateful to Frostig for making this possible!

Frostig is an amazing school. My son has Autism. He was languishing in the public school. Frostig teachers are well trained. They are caring and insightful. Frostig celebrates the differences in children and help them find their strengths. My son loves school now. He has made true friendships with peers. He is making strides in his education we never thought possible. It is all about the appropriate placement!!! Frostig was absolutely the right school for our family!!!

Frostig has been an amazing blessing to our daughter and, in turn, our family. She came home the first day of school last year crying and I thought "Oh great! Another bad day at school. Another bully encounter. Another time she was treated like an outcast." But it wasn't! She came in with tears in her eyes and a huge smile and said, "Mom! There are kids just like me here." We finally found a home school for our daughter. They are amazing when it comes to individual goals and have many different ways to help the students reach them regardless of their learning disabilities. Thank you Frostig.

My 8 year old has severe anxiety and ADHD and could not keep up with large public school sized classroom. He needed a more intimate setting where he could focus so he could successfully learn to read and write. After years in the public school setting he broke down and developed full school refusal. We were at a complete loss. He has been at Frostig only a few months and is flourishing. He goes to school, he is not scared, he is starting to read by himself. We are not wealthy, we are very active in the community and we have found Frostig to be a real life-saver. We are so thankful that the entire staff (clinical, front office & teachers) have been so responsive to our child's needs. Our child attends this school to assist him with academics... and social skills. He's learned so much there and loves his mental health therapist as well. All these services has restored his faith in himself and has helped his confidence about being able to learn. I tear up because this is a kid who hid under his bed when I tried to take him to public school at PUSD. Now that he is attending Frostig he readily jumps in the car to attend school. I have my kids back and I can't put a price on that... My husband and I couldn't be more thankful.

Our son has been at Frostig for 10 years. He will be graduating this June! I cannot say enough good things about Frostig. They took in a little third grade boy who they did not know if it was a good match but they took a chance. Our son has blossomed here and had so many opportunities he would have never had in public school The drama and sports program helped him to become the confident young man he has become. For a child who does not have a good working memory he has participated in all the plays since he started. The staff, teachers, kids and parents are the best. He has learned to advocate for himself, become the young man he is and has exceptional empathy for kids with LD. Frostig is a place for our kids to have a normal school experience and to grow in all areas. It is not all about fixing the kids, it is about helping them to learn how to work with their differences and accepting what their strengths and struggles are. As a parent, I too have learned he will excel at what he puts his mind to, it will just be a different route and might take a little longer than I thought! Frostig helped our family to become whole again!

We transitioned to Frostig from a public school in a "top rated" district. After the difficulty we experienced in our prior school we were hesitant to make the switch. We desperately needed a change but we needed it to be a good one. Since we've been here our child sleeps better, our whole family does. The stress and fear about what the school day will hold is gone. Confidence has gone way up and he's participating in things he never would before, like the academic fair, music performance and the school play. He feared math before and now he says "it's easy"! He feels competent. Tools and strategies are in place and readily available so he doesn't have to struggle to access the success he's been craving. His teacher is warm and passionate about what she does. We get a weekly personal update. The parents all seem kind and supportive. And I have found no difference in how public vs private pay families are regarded. Im so grateful and i encourage anyone with interest to come in for a tour. We are in the right place for our kid.

This is my son's first year at Frostig. I cannot say enough about this school! My son arrived without any math. None. At all. He has advanced two grade levels in 6 months. This is due in part to the small class size and extra attention, but more importantly, his teachers have created an environment that fosters confidence and banishes anxiety. He has close friends for the first time and is happy and excited to go to school every day. We were so lucky to find this school!

This year is my first year at Frostig and I really love this school. From the first day, when I came here and we had our meeting, I felt warmth and felt that they really wanted to help my child. Since he has been here they have really enhanced the quality of his life.

Nepotism. Those that fund the school rule the school and their students benefit and have the teachers' hearts. This is a private, stuck up, unwelcoming, school for learning disabled outcast kids that would never fit in public school even with their parents paying for friends and cliques. Parents are cliquey and snotty and selective on who they want their child to socialize with. Stop taking in public pay kids and ruining their self concept, Frostig. It is cruel. I felt it from my very first there and the principal is very openly a big snob. They do not accommodate or care either. Just poor quality people with money. Social skills are not taught here, inclusion is non existent, and if one parent tells their kid one thing then they tell another and another and then the unprofessional teachers side with the cash cows. I've receive e-mails I shouldn't have that even reflect this. Terrible Parent Association 2013-2014 and these people trashed the ethnic PA pres before that. Very disturbing.teachers are retaliatory and won't teach if you complain either. They have no one to answer to but their fav funding sources.

My child went here and left in 2013. Complaints of teachers being mean and not enough enrichment or social opportunities. Wish the school would practice more of what they preach through their center and through their garb at conferences/published articles but they do not. Many of the staff do not have sophisticated experience and are very immature and impatient. Big disappointment.

I would have to agree with an entry below where there is absolute bias in public pay students. The environment is first and foremost from the parents and then trickles down to their students. There are cliques and many children are left out of social circles. Teachers and professionals at this school selectively socialize online with students while others are left out. What good is the social skills class when you do this kind of stuff? My student has been left to float along to the tune of big money as teachers have no clue how to educate my student with complex learning issues. Where is the educational therapy that is in the name of this school? In the last year, I believe there have been at least 10 students leave the school for whatever reason. We'll never know but it is very telling. I had big faith in this school but I guess it only works for "some". Massive behaviors (sexual harassment, suicidal, anger issues) exist in this school and the privileged are the ones especially afforded the luxury of the blind eye. Beware if your student is public pay and being bullied.

Anxious to find a special ed school that wouldn't compromise a "full" educational experience while addressing the extensive learning challenges facing our child, I continue to be moved by the creativity, dedication & compassion our teachers, administration & specialists have. The growth & development our child has made in 9 years is attributable to Frostig's ongoing commitment to find new, creative, state of the art learning/teaching methods necessary to meet the individual needs of students & families. It is not a cold, anticeptic institution; IT IS a caring nurturing environment fostering independance & self-sufficiency. The OUTSTANDING full Arts programs have fostered self-esteem, self-expression, & accomplishment, consistently, & surprised us all! Lunchtime clubs & daily social skills programs have also contributed to her growth & development; all of which have taught goal setting & reaching for stars! Recognizing that nothing is perfect, Frostig has far exceeded my expectations. We are forever grateful to our "Frostig Family". Thank you! If you are looking for a global approach towards educating our special needs children, Frostig is the investment & school to consider.

We have absolutely no regrets in making the decision to send our daughter to Frostig four years ago. She was struggling academically, her self confidence was plummeting and none of her IEP goals were being met. The modified curriculum, individual attention, and superb staff were all contributing factors in her success in school and in life. All of their programs are research based and tailored to the students needs. The warm, nurturing environment is a wonderful place for children to learn and grow at their own pace.

We have been so very happy since Frostig School accepted our child into their small, nurturing community. We have seen our child grow from strength to strength with the support and encouragement of caring, professional teachers and administrators. If you are seeking a school where students are the number one priority, you will not be disappointed. Each child learns at their own pace, something we found so important when looking at schools. Unlike many schools for the learning disabled, Frostig offers drama, art, computer, music as part of the curriculum making for more well-rounded students.

When you need a School like this in Greater LA, they are hard to find. LAUSD is sadly ill-equipped. So not only is Frostig close to unique, its priceless. We know only the Grade 5 School Teacher, and the Educational Therapist and Speech Counsellor. Each is superb. Our Son is thriving, and happy. They use the Mainstream curriculum, adjusted, and set at the Child's real level for each subject, regardless of age. These people don't just teach. They think about and study how to teach.
