Couldn’t ask for more from this wonderful school. Teachers are kind, passionate, and committed. Leadership is thoughtful and inclusive. Incredibly engaged PTO.

Although there are some strong teachers, they are all new and young (all of the experienced teachers miraculously left within the first few years after the arrival of the no longer new Principal). The Principal is an administrator, not a leader. The school community is significantly lacking without empowered and experienced educators and strong leadership. Consistent with the Newton schools, the academics are fine... they follow the common core curriculum precisely, one worksheet at a time with little variation. if you want experiential or more effective and creative learning that will prepare your children for the future look elsewhere.

I love everything about this school!My kids are very happy and love their teachers and friends. The programs and activities developed by the school are a plus to their education.About the teachers. Well, the teachers deserve a great standing ovation!!

I have 3 children at Underwood, and they all love it. Underwood is and always was a very special, neighborhood school. Committed parents, amazing teachers and staff, and very nice kids. My eldest has been there for 4 years. The PTO holds quite a few fun events each year including the Spring Social, Mystery Dinner and the Spring Carnival. The playground is a kid and parent favorite and is one of the few shaded play spaces in Newton.

Underwood is an excellent school. I have two children currently attending, the oldest has been there for 5 years. The class sizes are good. The only negative about the school is the teacher turnover rate is higher than desired. Still a great place to send your kids.

Underwood is filled with caring, responsive and amazing teachers who take the time to get to know the needs of each student. Through the use of co-taught classrooms, teaching assistants, and supplemental offerings the School can provide a wide range of services to engage and challenge all the children. The School community is small so the children quickly get to know all the teachers and staff, as well as each other. The parent community is actively engaged in many different activities to support the School. Underwood is an amazing elementary school.
