Glenwood Academy has been a life saver for our family. Our child finally feels a sense of belonging and their self confidence has soared. They are able to pick up a book or look up a topic of interest and read it on their own. The teachers sincerely care about the students and their well being. The families have all been through similar situations in previous school so there is a sense of community that I have never seen at other schools. I would recommend this school to anyone.

Our daughter started sixth grade at Glenwood Academy this past Fall. Rebecca and Allison have taken this school in such a positive direction. My daughter has made great strides since last September. Much more than she ever did in public school. The staff and teachers take the time to get to know your student, know what style of learning they need, and make them feel accepted. Small classrooms, more one on one instruction has been a godsend for my child.

We have had an outstanding experience with Glenwood Academy. The teachers are fantastic and truly meet the individual needs of each student. This school has been a miracle for us. Thanks to the administration and the teachers!

Excellent. There is a new administration that is focused on the best learning environment for the students and it's staff. The atmosphere is calm, caring and totally different from when the previous administrator was here. The school has become focused on learning, student success and not just "filling seats".

Terrible, terrible and left me feeling as if Glenwood took my money and it went into the trash. As a parent, I was told untruths and my son did not progress.

We loved the school up until January, when the long time administrator when on medical leave. The new administrator has changed so many things, we would leave tomorrow if we could get out tuition reimbursed for the rest of the year.

Very disappointed.Sadly, it was a waste of hard earned money. Not an uplifting environment. Kids are made to feel bad instead of appreciated for their differences. I was told completely false things abt the school when I toured and when my son shadowed. They even had their “regular” parents call me to get me to enroll my child. My child didn’t progress here

My son struggled with his ADHD in public school, Glenwood is understanding and has worked with us when we encounter difficulties. The kids there are wonderful and the environment is one of understanding. My son has found great friends here. We have been part of Glenwood for 3 years and look forward to many more great years. I would highly recommend Glenwood Academy for anyone who isn't happy with how public school is handling their child's education.

His progress in language arts has been significant after only one year at Glenwood. Additionally he is being given math work at a pace that allows him to progress as fast as he can, not at the slower pace of the previous larger class. Two favorite aspects of Glenwood's program: 1. Speech therapy is incorporated in the school day and well integrated with the teacher. 2. All homework is done at school in study hall. No more tears or fussing at the end of a long day for both of us.

Students are treated as an individual, not as a number. They feel safe and nurtured every day!

From my review it is obvious that our experience was not in any way a positive one. In our experience communication was poor, school was disorganized and turnaround was extreme. Some seem to benefit from this setting and that is wonderful for them. The key is to find the school culture and services that best meet your child's needs. I encourage you to check everything that is told to you. Don't rush, take time and do your research. Check the other reviewers profiles. Especially the more recent ones. Do they even live in the state? Are they friends of friends of the school and are just putting up a review to "help"? Are they teachers at the school? Use sites such as aihitdata to see the changes made to the school's website over time. There are many. Ask questions. Know the difference between being registered with the state and accredited. It is huge. Know that with a donation of $300.00 or more anyone can display a certificate of membership from the International Dyslexia Association. Membership does not require you to provide any documentation regarding your qualifications. It gives you access to resources and allows you to publish the name of your school or self in a directory. Know that places like Lindamood Bell offer training courses, but you can only be a Lindamood Bell consultant if you work at Lindamood Bell. Training that some teachers hold in comprehension by Bowman Educational Services is offered over three evenings in 9 hours and a certificate is issued at the end of the last class. Don't take my word for it. Call these places. Orton-Gillingham is a great program. Only two teachers were qualified to teach it at the time of our attendance and it is only useful for children who mainly struggle with decoding. Again, look it up. Don't take my word for it.Finally, go to the District Court in Howard County and request transcripts of any cases. While attending this school costs significantly less than attending accredited, reputable schools such as Jemicy, Odyssey, The Baltimore or DC Lab Schools find out why. What are those schools offering that this one doesn't? Good luck. I sincerely hope that you find the right fit for your child.

This is our second year at Glenwood and we couldn't be more pleased. Our son has ADHD and dyslexia. He was falling behind in public school and in spite of an I.E.P., they had no answers. We found an answer in Glenwood. Their nurturing and individualized approach to teaching is getting results. Our child's confidence and desire to learn grows by the day. The Glenwood approach works. We couldn't be happier.

My son has ADHD and dyslexia. This is the perfect school for him. This is his sixth year at Glenwood. He gets individual, targeted and specific instruction. The teachers are great and have special training teaching language-based learning difficulties. The students enjoy school and root for each other. I think this school is GREAT. The school now teaches through eighth grade.

I'd like to correct the earlier comment about the school's name. The elementary school grew out of the preschool which goes by the name of Glenwood Country Day School. So originally the elementary school went by that name as well. Then there was a desire to distinguish the two schools but still show they were related, so the elementary (and now middle) school changed to Glenwood Country School. Unfortunately, this didn't help clarify between the two schools, so last year, the elem/middle school adopted its new, permanent name - Glenwood Academy. So I don't think it is fair to say the school has changed names "so many times."

Glenwood Academy is the answer to our prayers. Our son was failing very fast at his public school. No one could tell us why, he knew the material but he could not get if from his brain to his hand. With the multi-sensory teaching that they have at Glenwood it has changed our lives. Our son now get 100% on his spelling tests and is reading at two grade levels higher than when he entered Glenwood last year.

This school has changed names so many times. I think it because they are trying to get rid of their bad reputation. Despite the fact that classroom sizes are small and it is for children with learning differences, the school does not follow any state curriculum, so kids are not prepared for the next step out of this school. The leadership is horrible - very manipulative and does not always tell the truth to parents. We were made to feel guilty every time we walked in the door, like we weren't doing enough for the school or for our child. And we were continually asked for monetary donations for different things that popped up throughout the school year. One teacher was excellent, but the others were only there for a year and then left because of the unprofessional way the owner runs the school. Sorry to say it was not what we expected, which is a shame because there is a need for a special needs school in the area.
