My child has been studying in this school for the past two years. Initially, the first two years were good, but lately, I have noticed that the school standards have not been up to par. I haven't seen any improvement in the children's studies and I believe that the teachers need to focus more on the students' academics. Additionally, there have been no parent interactive sessions regarding student progress

Please go to a different school in Wake County if possible. Teachers are uncaring and lazy. When brought to the attention of higher powers, complaints about teacher wrong doing is swept aside and principle finds a way to place full blame on student. If you care about your child, do not send them here.I totally agree with this review! That happens to my kid... Everything I want to say is here. If your kis is smart this could possibly happen even more. Avoid this school.

Fantastic school. Our son is thriving and really love the support his teacher provides and well managed school and local to our Preston Community.

We've had two children at MES, the youngest now a fifth grader. We've had overall excellent teachers (the weakest one has since retired). My children had excellent support by the fantastic special ed team as well as the AIG gifted team, both of whom closely partnered with teachers. Speech therapists have been a constant rotation but current one is great. Specials teachers have been great, too. Compassionate, caring staff who have been invested in my kids success--- all 4s and 5s on our EOGs. Met with full support when we had mild bullying problem which was nipped in the bud. Involved parents, great community.

I have 2 children at MES. My oldest is advanced and up until 3rd grade has had an average experience. Her teacher this year is the most uncaring teacher we've ever had. My daughter needs redirection often and rather than being a champion of her success and complimenting her, she is constantly berated in front of classmates. She is no longer a behavior 'issue' in class because she has become very withdrawn and doesn't want to participate. Conversations with administration has lead no where saying they won't offer her help until she is "failing" in some aspect - which means my advanced/gifted student has to completely fail a subject and HATE school before anything will be done. This school can not work with students that don't fit their perfect mold so if you have a child that is quirky in any way - don't bother with MES. Just walk the halls and you won't see a school with any sort of individuality - they're militant in most of what they do and want everyone to conform. My youngest works well here but if my oldest gets into one of the magnet schools this coming year, she will be leaving in short order.

We moved from out of state and are unimpressed with faculty and administration. Students are not challenged here, and instead are scooted along to hit minimum requirements. Staff responds to parents at a glacial pace and only then when prodded multiple times. They promised to follow up with the prior school to get records, because they won't accept copies from parents, and never did. Parent-teacher conferences have yielded nothing of value, just the teacher praising common core and avoiding having to discuss how to actually improve student performance.

I've had 3 kids at MES with my last graduating this year. The good: great parent involvement, generally great kids, teachers love the kids and some are amazing instructors, good atomosphere, school pride. The bad: this may be true for all schools thanks to No Child Left Behind, but the focus is on getting more kids to pass EOGs, not on helping every child learn. Principal seems very status quo and not interested in advancing individual students; you will get good lip service but few changes. Kids love the school and we've made some good friends there but would have loved to see more academic challenge.

Excellent teachers, great principal, special events that make the kids feel like they are part of something awesome.

This is a great school. My child attended from K-5 grade. The enviroment is safe and supportive, the PTA is very active, and the teachers are all working together.

I agree with the poster that says that her child gets in trouble for the silliest things. We've had good teachers and we've had bad teachers. More bad than good at this point. I also agree with the poster that said that some of the assistant teachers could use work. Many of the teachers, including specials teachers and assistant teachers seem to have a huge attitude problem. Also I agree with the poster who said her kids became used to not being challenged. We experienced the same thing. My kid began his first few years with a love of challenge and learning, and progressively has developed little work ethic because my kid is now used to everything being so easy. Also the getting in trouble for silly things has also turned my kid to just expect to get in trouble and afraid to trust or talk to the teachers.

My granddaughter enjoys the school, likes her teachers and from what I see in her learning, the teachers care about the her performance and want her to succeed and learn. I like the school and happy she is a student there.

As an educator, I am very picky about my children's education, and MES has been a wonderful fit for my family. My children are happy, challenged, and feel safe at school. Of course, public school is what you make of it, so get involved with the awesome PTA and see the fantastic work that the faculty and staff are doing for the students and community.

My daughter is a kindergartener at MES so this is our fist experience with public school. I think that the school as a whole is good. I like the teachers that i have encountered, but some of the assistant teachers could use a little work. The principal is sub par. She will basically tell you what you want to hear so you will leave her alone. Are we happy here, yes, but could it be better, yes!
