This school and the staff have been amazing for our child! Our daughter is able to learn at her level, while staying with her peers so that she is able to develop socially with kids her age. The result is both an academically challenging and nurturing environment. We had previously looked at our local public school (which is known to be excellent), only to find that they only offer single subject acceleration, while our child needs acceleration in multiple subjects. Our goal is for our child to love learning and to be curious and learn how to approach and solve problems -- all things that are happening at Wake Academy!

The main idea of the school to find gifted kids, with >99% in all academic areas. Also, they are looking for really easy to teach kids. Children, who will be a welcome addition to any classroom and any school, adjust quickly to new environment and show max potential in 1-2 days. If you read “Common Myths About Gifted Students” on the school website, this is exactly type of the kids they are looking. So, if you are a parent of not just gifted, but also "perfect" kid, you should try this school. But, I will not recommend this school for anybody else!

Before we discovered Wake Academy he assumed homeschooling would be our only option to meet our gifted child's needs. Thank goodness we found this incredible school. The kindergarten curriculum includes coding, engineering, yoga, and chess. Yet every day my daughter insists she only played, sometimes she plays photosynthesis and other days poetry. The teachers know each child's strengths and challenges and their lessons are tailored to each child's needs. I could go on and on, we feel we won the school lottery.

While I am very much pro public schools, what I discovered in the WCPSS is that if your child is well above average academically, they are often overlooked and under-served. My daughter has simply THRIVED at Wake Academy. She is met where she is academically and has a love and confidence for her school work. The 6:1 teacher ratio is amazing and the teachers are all AIG certified. With chess, daily STEM activities and yoga all build into the curriculum, my child is truly engaged in hands-on learning every single day. We cannot say enough wonderful things about this school.
