I have 3 young children that attend the elementary school and I have nothing but positive things to say about this school. All 3 of my children have IEPs and their teachers have been amazing! My kids were in West Point prior to Mathews Elementary and they had struggled there. Ever since they attended here, my children have improved in many areas greatly. My 2nd grader was still reading at Kindergarten level and his teacher has put so much time and effort towards his needs and he has just about caught up with his reading skills. My Kindergartener has improved as well and her teacher has also gone above and beyond to help her. My preschooler's teacher has also taken extra initiative to help my son. All three teachers have gone above and beyond my expectations for my children. And without getting their pediatrician involved, their teachers have made the necessary referrals my children needed! Also, we deal with two bus drivers and they are amazing! They have cared more about making sure my children were comfortable than being concerned about rushing for any drivers that may be waiting to go. They are absolutely wonderful people! I also want to share that my experience with other school staff members have been amazing as well! When we had some "things" going on, they were so understanding and have been able to accommodate us as needed. My children also had a much easier time with making friends here. It was the first time my children were actually making friends. If there was a child that was acting out (only has been the case once), the teachers actually got involved. This school has made it a better atmosphere for sure! I'm absolutely sad that we will be moving again, but if we stayed in VA, I would absolutely choose to stay in Mathews County!

Awful school based on our experience. The special ed teacher left bruises on my child in her class and nothing happened to her. My child was moved to another school over an hour drive away.
