In the area of academics/learning, I would say the school is doing relatively well. For upper school (grades five through eight) science, history, mathematics, language arts, computer science, and Spanish are all taught in addition to the student's chosen elective (it varies form year to year but often music, art, and something in the field of computer science is offered). Language arts, (while not known as particularly enjoyable by the students) does give them excellent preparation for the remainder of their secondary schooling. If your child has ADHD, ADD, etc., this can be a large drawback in the field of language as the teacher is highly intolerant and maladjusted to children with these disabilities. Little room for mistake s is allowed, which may cause stress to particular students. The mathematics department is the most lacking out of all of the subjects offered. Students are not offered on-course material, and subjects are deliberately neglected. Aside from students to truly love math, the class is found to be a drag. The teacher has made a few female students slightly uncomfortable for various reasons. The social studies and science department s are both wonderful. They are universally enjoyed by all students, sometimes even fostering an interest in students that did not previously like said field. Classes are very hands-on and projects are typically appropriate and fun. Whilst all of the academic factors within the school do make a large difference in the students experience, it is my belief that classmates have the same, if not larger, influence. To summarize the social setting, the school is extremely small. The student will have the same teachers all throughout upper school and the same classmates in the same room all day. Typically the entire grade consists of (roughly) ten students. The majority of the children have been together at Ware since pre-school. Some groups can be very exclusive. However, it is possible that your student will attend Ware and meet a new friend with whom they spend time with and are motivated to go to school for. Or (despite the social skills of your child) they might not meet a friend and deal with feelings of isolation and hopelessness. Since children going to Ware are often wealthy this can affect their attitudes towrads other students. In conclusion, it can a good place for your student, depending on them. They do offer trial attendance to the school, which I strongly recommend.

As a former public school teacher who now works for Ware Academy, I can say only that this is what education should be. The school holds high standards for student and staff conduct and supports all students in meeting these standards. Ware develops character, a growth mindset, and a sense of balance in academic, physical, fine arts, and character education. I love teaching again!

We started our 3-year-old in Ware Academy's program not only because of the great academics at his age and beyond, but also because of their strong character education program and the exposure all students have to each other. Our young man interacts with 8th graders during weekly assemblies and gets the benefit of having not just the mentors of his teachers and Head of School, but also these extremely well rounded, polite, smart students on campus. Also, it's important to note that Ware Academy embraces a hands on educational style. The students are not just learning out of text books and getting tested on what they can memorize. The students go out. Are encourage to touch, feel, experience math and science in our world. They learn the arts - from dance to pottery to music. Children of all ages benefit from Spanish classes and chicken raising. I know that my son is creating the strong foundation at Ware that he will need to carry him through his lifetime of learning.

Ware Academy is the perfect combination of academics and co-curricular offerings. The familial, respectful environment is ideal for students to learn and perform to the best of their abilities. While the academics are rigorous, students thrive and are able to achieve new levels with the support they receive.

Ware Academy is honestly a great school. I wish there were more opportunities as far as athletics and arts, but when you look at the public schools in the area we have 10 times the the opportunities, with not even half the students. The sense of community at this school is overwhelming. Technology, as you hit middle school in 6th grade, you find yourself showing people what to do when they have a problem with a computer automatically. In eighth grade you do a capstone project beginning in January, the subject varies yearly, but usually pertains to the nearby Chesapeake Bay, water conservation, or pollution. This project is 95% on a computer, using WikiSpaces. All students are required to take Spanish starting in Pre-School. Starting in the sixth grade, students take Latin in addition to Spanish. The school also has a Blue/Green competition, a year long competition that is a huge part of the school atmosphere. All students are placed on either the Blue or Green Team the year they arrive at Ware. Two eighth graders from each team are chosen as captains, these captains are also part of the honor council, as well as the National Junior Honor Society President and SCA President.
