I had 3 children enrolled in Bethel Elementary. I received little to no communication from my children's teachers despite two of my children saying their teacher had snapped at them multiple times. My Kindergartener was very discouraged that despite her good behavior, she had received no recognition when other kids had, she is a well behaved child and despite my reaching out to the teacher, no misbehavior was reported. One of the teachers sent out an email right before the grading period ended that many of her students were failing because they hadn't turned in their classwork- too little too late and very discouraging. Vice Principle decided that the drop off line was a good time to lecture while my KGer was crying.

My kids originally grew up attending Botetourt Elementary but after I transferred to Bethel my youngest son improved dramatically. They are the most caring and wonderful staff.

My children have attended Bethel from Pre-K through 5th grades. Bethel Elementary is a wonderful school with talented and highly trained teachers under the able leadership of Ms. Kersmarki. The enthusiasm for creating a positive learning environment is readily evident from the front office staff to each classroom and support staff, custodians and cafeteria workers. There is a large participation in the PTA by parents and the PTA is able to fund enrichment activities and tools for the school including things like Theatre IV performances and iPad Minis for the classrooms. The school nurse (Robin Zophy) is an outstanding resource for children with special medical concerns and for teachers who need training to keep these children safe. The resource and science teachers are top notch and they often commit many hours after school to sponsor and help with after school clubs, study groups and performances. As a parent, I feel very lucky that my children are getting such a great start in their school careers.

I was very happy when we purchased a home in this school district. My son went to Abingdon Elementary prior to this school. In my opinion this school is so much better. From parent/teacher communication, administration, and classroom size. Also this school is a title 1 distinguished school. My son is now in gifted program, which I had asked for him to be tested numerous times at Abingdon and this never happened. His teacher regularly communicates with us and responds to any concerns either in writing or with a phone call. He has progressed so much from his previous year at Abingdon. I am very happy with this school and would recommend to any parent looking at schools in the area.
