This school does some things very well. The teachers are fantastic, and there are excellent extracurricular opportunities, particularly music and art. However, the school came nowhere close to meeting our children's needs. The curriculum and administration are inflexible and very unfriendly (either through ignorance or intentionally, hard to tell) towards kids with high academic ability. All classes are grouped heterogeneously, meaning the strongest students are divided among different classes; effectively limiting their chances to interact with academic peers. There are only 2 honors courses (not counting foreign lang), both in eighth grade; algebra is considered honors, but half the students take it and the pace/depth are consistent with regular classes, honors in name only, too much repetition and review. For humanities, all students are grouped together, again with very slow pace and low expectations. My kids were not challenged, and started high school years behind some of their peers in other districts (particularly in math) due to the inflexible policies (no acceleration, etc). The school has very high stand. test scores, but this is partly due to the no-acceleration policy.

To give you a context wtihin which to interpret my review, our family puts considerable focus on education. We moved into the school district when my kids were in middle school. Although this is a very stable community-so most kids entered the system in K, my kids were welcomed by their peers and by the teachers. The school was outstanding -exactly what we were seeking. My kids benefited from the strong academic program and also its music, art and sports programs. A huge plus is that most of the kids come from families that value academics as much as we do. In terms of SES, it is certainly a wealthy successful community. We are not wealthy by anybody's standards. We drive a used Korean car, you know what I mean? But my kids were completely accepted, embraced, by peers. The fact that they did not wear UGGS made no difference in any way. I can't imagine why anyone in this community would opt to send their kids to a private school unless they were seeking religious education. Eagle Hill is as good a school as any local private school-I'd say better. The teachers, staff and administration are outstanding.

Let me warn you. I have been going to Eagle Hill for a year now, and I don't like it that much. The teachers may be nice, but don't let that fool you. The hallways are horrible. I get trampled by 8th graders every day. Also the kids are really snobby. Its all about the fancy cars and Ugg boots here. The education may be good, but the people here are mean. My best recommendation: don't go to this school.
