We moved to Larkspur in 2020, during Covid. Both my daughter, 4th grade, and son 2nd grade, attended virtual learning. The experience with virtual learning was a positive one. Once in person learning resumed, my son (entering 3rd grade) struggled with social anxiety and depression from an increased use of devices. There was no initiative to help him, or other kids, who might have been struggling as well. Instead, they matched us up with a 504 coordinator, which may have caused even more exclusion and a belief that he was “different” and in his words, “weak”. There was a safety incident on the swings, where he broke his thumb and wasn’t even taken to the nurse. He came home with a broken, swollen thumb. When speaking with the AS, I was told that his teacher asked him if he was okay and he said “yes”. He was 10 years old!! We were also called to the school one time because he was struggling in math and had suicidal ideation. The counselor sent us a bunch of links and that was about it. They once had dismissal in a thunderstorm and he was standing, soaking wet on the corner when I arrived for him. His last year, I came in to his classroom and found that he had incomplete projects and his handwriting hadn’t improved. When I reached out, they gave me the run around and suggested Kumon. I don’t want another kid to have this elementary experience. Please try for open enrollment at another school.

My Children attended this school for the time that we lived in Texas. We are a military family and we move quite a bit and I have had experience in schools all over our country. Larkspur is an exceptional school and community! The teachers and staff extended themselves beyond the classroom, many of them were also neighbors. Not only were they passionate about teaching and providing a positive experience for our children while in the classroom, they clearly cared for our children and our community as a whole. We loved our time here and would love to return! As a special needs parent I also must say the SLE program was top notch! You are in good hands attending this school!

My daughter came into this school as a first grader, and her first teacher appeared very disengaged and almost cold to the kids. Our daughter would come home over tired and exhausted at the end of the day and she mentioned several times that there were behavior issues that were never addressed. This year, was the straw that broke the camel's back. Now that we are no longer enrolled at the school our daughter is telling us even more about what happened there. First, when we reached out to her teacher to address concerns we were having about our daughter's focus in class she took days to respond to our emails and when she did, offered very little support or address of our concerns. She was so overwhelmed at this over packed school that we thought she was having focus issues, and turns out it was anxiety from the stress of this environment. Second, there was a morning when our daughter burst into tears and told us she was so overwhelmed at school that there were several bullies in her class and she felt alone. We emailed the principals and did not receive a call back until TWO DAYS later. Then i went up to the school for lunch and several teacher monitors were yelling at the children to get in line silently and were very stern with them. We felt so un seen by this school, so we unenrolled her. The community involvment at the this school is little to none. The only way to be in the class or help is by being on PTA and there were no class parties or any sort of events. Our daughter told us that the lunch room was always dirty, and they would sit on sticky chairs and that her new school is "sparkling clean". Then she told us in PE they just ran to the end of the room and then turned around and sat down as an activity. that at her new school they actually compete and play games. When I was emptyinig out her backpack before the new school i found a nurses note that said her hand had been twisted- never recieved a call or anything about the incident and this was her last day at the school.
