I have two children attending Mckendree and we have been very happy there. Both of them are progressing beautifully and love going to school. The teachers we have had are responsive, caring, and communicative.

This school would provide homework after several semesters of begging for it. The kids test very poorly because of this. Teachers do not want to teach or grade work. Takes months to get test scores back. This school is horrible. You might get lucky and get a good teacher but the leadership is just trying to do minimum does not manage teachers. So test scores are horrible.

Kindergarten- 3rd grade for my oldest child who has been here all of elem. school was great. Second of 4th grade-5th grade not so much. not the same school that I have come to love. I kept my kids on a permissive transfer and don't think that my smaller kids will be back for 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades. I think once Ms. Scott gets everything going they could go back to the school that lots of parents loved when Dr. Denmark was there. Ms. Scott is a nice lady. It took some getting used to the way that she does things. I will say the gifted program is going to be amazing. She has done some really great things for my gifted child with the new program additions that she has made this school year.

My kids transferred to McKendree when they began 3rd grade. (I have triplets). My kids have a Dx of ADHD and the teachers wouldn't even do anything to document that for 1 of my kids. It was because his grades were fine, so it didn't need to be addressed. The problem was he was getting reprimanded for things outside of his control. I wanted communication so that I could report to their doctor what was going on and I wanted their Dx documented in the school so that they could try to redirect the negative behavior and reward positive behavior.4th grade was TERRIBLE! One of my boys was repeatedly bullied. A child pushed him down on the playground and jumped on his back. He also received a death threat from another student. Another CHILD actually told my son that he was going to KILL him! The teacher called to let me know and I told her that I wanted the child out of the class with my son and I was going to keep him home the following day because I was scared for his safety. I asked her to please call me if that wasn't OK. She never did, so I assumed it was fine. When he did go back to school, I noticed that he received unexcused absences from it. The school said that they didn't consider this excused, even though my son was threatened. This teacher also wouldn't communicate well with me. I asked at the beginning of the year for a SST meeting, because my son had just been Dx with a vision impairment. That was in September. I didn't receive the meeting until February. Her response was either she forgot or the school was backed up with meetings. She also didn't keep me updated on any issues that she saw with his behavior that could be contributed to his ADHD. (even though I asked. How am I supposed to know what is going on if she doesn't communicate with me?) The last straw was when he received a bad grade on an assignment. He met all the criteria that was given, but the teacher said that he didn't do it correctly. My other 2 children had the EXACT same as.signment (just different topics) and they made good grades. I felt that he was being singled out and being picked on. 5th grade hasn't improved. One of my kids has anxiety and is called out in front of the class. The teacher yelled at him and told him that she is tired of him putting his head down and not doing his work. This isn't helping him. If your kid has learning needs, don't come here.

The principal acts like she is not comfortable around kids and is stand-offish to the parents. The school is not welcoming to parents. No class moms, reading volunteering or crafts. (Which we had at our Atlanta school). They don't teach any foreign language probably because the school is 75% spanish speaking. I got in the line to drop off my kids at 7:59 and then had to end up waling them in and wait 12 minutes to sign them into the computer, so I didn't leave until 8:29!. Ridiculous! I know there are worse schools but I am considering doing homeschool. Bullying goes on but they don't want kids tattling.

I have LOVED every second of every experience at this school. My sons' teachers have always been exceptional and treated my boys like they truly mattered and that my opinions mattered. Each teacher has always made time for me when I have asked and that means a lot to me! THANK YOU, McKENDREE ELEMENTARY!!

My daughter has almost completed her 4th grade year here and it has been the best school. I love that I can communicate day and night with the teacher on the class dojo. I feel they are very transparent and communicative. The only thing I wish they still had was homework only because I like to see more of what my child is doing but they do have projects and my daughter seems to be doing excellent there so hey if it works, it works.

My son is in 2nd grade. His teacher is Ms. Lovett who is the most kind and caring teacher that my son ever had. She wants your child to be become succesfull and she will do anything she can to help him or her to achieve and reach the highest potentials. She is also available whenever you have a question to ask her. I also wanted to say that everyone I met from school stuff is beyond great. I wish everyone who make their job to work with children will be as great as they are at McKendree Elementary School.

The school is good but some teachers loose the emotion to teach. They are focus on homeworks and if the students memorize and pass the test. There is not more fun activities or encourage kids to be creatives. Just follow the rules. And pass the test

Discipline seems to be an issue in some grades more than others. Our children's teachers are very caring. There are lots of PTA nights that are fun, and the Parent Center is helpful. I love the new administrator. She seems really on top of things.

I will not rate this school as "bad" because I'm sure there are worse schools. We have been at this school for 2 years and have not had a good experience! I have a kindergartener and 4th grader. Communication is terrible! I have a son that has an IEP and communication (in my opinion) is key to his success. There is no communication between the teachers and parents unless the parent reaches out. My daughter (kindergarten) had learned so many cuss words and nothing gets done about it. I am so happy to be switching schools!

I have two children entering the 3rd & 1st. Mckendree elementary as far as public schools go is a great school. Both children have attended since kindergarten; I will say I was drastically more impressed with my sons kindergarten teacher than my daughters. Her name was Karen Vigiliotti & she came early to help get his reading above the required level. I was pleased to let the school do "looping" and have Mrs. Vigiliotti as a first grade teacher for my son as well. However,I was not as impressed with my daughters kindergarten teacher at all and it was an opinion shared by MANY of the parents. I wish I would have pulled her. I don't feel it's the teachers sole responsibility to teach OUR children; however when over 75% of the class ( I could tell from the charts in the room throughout the year) is BELOW reading level by year end, I do feel that is a reflection of the teacher. From this years meet and greet I am very optimistic about the 14-15 year. BTW my children attend on a permissive transfer, this is my 4rth year of having to drop them off (no busses for transfer) I choose to do this because of stability and it is an overall good school from the teachers and all staff.

I had good experiences with this school overall. Some things are just apart of the process and because I was involved, I was able to get a good hold on things before they got out of control. Both of my children did great. However, I was very involved. I hope the same for this year.

This is my daughter 2nd year at Mckendree Elementary. Her kindergarden teacher was very caring and supportive about my daughter education she recognize my daughter's potentials. She alway exceeds in each subject. This year she is in the 1st grade and there's not enough words can explain how awesome her teacher this year is. I'm extremely satisfied with the staff members at this school and the academic program.

My three children have attended McKendree for the past six years. We have four more school years to go to get all three through the school. The current principal is very nice and accomdating to parents. Just like the last principal if there is a parent concern you can reach her with those concerns. The teachers are well versed and great. I am pleased as a parent. It has not only a family feel, but excellent teachers. The only thing about the school that dissappoints me is the limited diversity in the staff. The area is very diverse, which I personally love, and the staff should be more diverse as well.

My daughter has been in McKendree since 2nd grade and she is now in the 4th. I have nothing but praise to say about this school. I am a hands on parent and very involved with my daughter's academic career. The teachers have been nothing but supportive with my daughters needs and progress in each grade. My experience with McKendree is that I am very extremely pleased with how things have gone thus far. I cannot speak yet on the principal because I have not met her ... YET!
