High student-teacher ratio.Inclusiveness is misconstrued as restrictiveness. No action on bullying. Wood mulch playground is unsupervised at times, which leads to recurrent splinters. Lack of productive communication.

There are no busses at Deerfield and children are released every Wednesday at 1:30, which makes it extremely difficult for working parents. The Lawrence School District handled the covid pandemic terribly. Lawrence was one of the last schools in the area to go back to hybrid and then again one of the last schools in the area to offer in-person. The school board made decisions and then changed them several times. Upsetting the children and making parents scramble for child care at the last minute. The building is not heated well and we were forced to miss school during the recent cold snap because temperatures in the buildings throughout the district got as low as 50 degrees. There are only two options for lunches: a vegetarian one and a meat version. Often times my children do not want to eat either of these things like corndogs, bosco sticks, cheeseburgers (you can't ask for it not to have cheese), grilled cheese that is cold by the time they get it and not suitable for a grab and go lunch. Because of covid, kids have to eat in the classrooms are not allowed a snack and cannot talk while they are eating. Many of our report cards standards were blank this year because of the poor choices of the administration and staff. They simply did not have time to teach everything required because they choose to only teach one hour on Wednesday's during hybrid and took off extra days for teacher planning time, 3 weeks at the start of school, 2 days after winter break and 1 day before spring break.

Great school/teachers with great parent involvement opportunities and fantastic drop off/pick up system in place!

If it weren't for the awesome teacher my son had last year I would give this school a one star rating. They make no effort to help special needs students and I have never encountered a more disinterested, uncaring principal in all of the years of my kids being in school. We pulled him out and put him in a private school and it was the best decision we could have ever made. This school may be great if your kids have no special needs but if you have any behavioral issues, forget it.
