I agree with the other parent's review that said Oakhurst Elementary School is a terrible place for special needs students and the principal, Mrs. Kennedy, is horrible. Oakhurst refused to provide my child with autism services even though there was a clearly written IEP. Mrs. Kennedy did not care or do anything about it when I insisted they implement the services. Mrs. Kennedy also does nothing when there are reports of bullying. Over half my child's class complained of bullying but when we tried to talk to her, she lost her temper, yelled, and threatened. She's the epitome of how a bad principal can ruin a school. A lot of us are leaving Oakhurst for safer schools that follow the law.

Oakhurst has a wonderful community feel with a lot of parental involvement and teacher/staff participation. The PTA is active and hosts a variety of activities through year from a reading adventure evening to a color run on campus to a back to school dance. The school has parent/student lunches once a month. My children love the extras the school provides. My children transferred to this school and have had positive experiences. The campus is clean and safe. The principal has been at the school for years and is very invested in the school -- we see her at every after school event, in car line, and she even gives her cell phone number if you need to reach her. She is very responsive. The teachers seem happy and turnover is low. The learning environment is very solid. My children feel happy to be at Oakhurst because it offers such a rich environment -- including in the areas of PE, art, choir, and music. My child loves the learning offered in the gifted program and the teacher is personable and engaging. The front desk staff members are welcoming, kind and eager to help. We have always felt welcomed at the school. Overall Oakhurst has exceeded my expectations! Highly recommend.

Oakhurst Elementary is not a supportive environment for special needs families and students. The Principal has run dozens of families out of the Pinellas County school system because of her punitive and cruel interpretations of allowing therapists to assist children inside the school. Many of these families, already struggling, are stressed and thirsty for any type of help for their children will not find it at Oakhurst Elementary. It's important to mention, many of the teachers and support staff do NOT agree with the harsh policies enacted by the Principal.

My daughter is only in Kindergarten, but I would be lucky for her to have the quality experience she gets at Oakhurst throughout her entire school career! We love Oakhurst!! The teachers and staff are amazing, the parental involvement is high, and the events and activities for the kids are perfect.

Oakhurst is a very good elementary school with fabulous teachers that go above and beyond for the kids. It's a great learning environment. We had two kids go to Oakhurst.

Oakhurst is a very community oriented school. The parent involvement with all activities, and the teachers is phenomenal. The organization of the school is superb, the principal is very involved, always leading the school and greeting parents. We moved from a charter school to Oakhurst, and I wish my children had gone to Oakhurst since Kindergarten. The kids have fun and look forward to the Mustang Roundups each month. They have different community and school events that helps to involve everyone in the school.

The teachers are very loving and dedicated. Teachers seem stressed with the new assment and extra paperwork they have to do this year.
