Our experience with Green Mountain Elementary has been that of success! Success in redefining what school can be! Previous to the pandemic, our experience in school had been disconcerting, stressful, and sad. The pandemic actually was a nice break from it!When we returned to in-person learning we chose Green mountain because we rode our bikes by it all the time and loved its green house. We hoped for something better and that is exactly what we found! The principal, teachers and staff helped bring the smile back to my child's face and the sparkle that had faded from blue eyes.Encouragement, care, engagement, and understanding coupled with awareness helped figure out where our child's educational needs were and how they could be met. Our child had a team made of his school and his parents. A plan was made and progress followed! The term "school of excellence" is given out for varied reasons in my opinion. Excellence in what terms? Is it based on the actual retention of knowledge? Could it be in the good character of its students? Its staff?Or is it numeric, test scores?Excellence is more. I think and feel excellence is found in my child's smile. Especially when looking forward to what the school day brings. It is a feeling of solidarity with classmates, teachers, principals and parents. It is a feeling of achievement in one's work and sense of self. It's the experience of the true gain of knowledge and then utilizing it to make the world better. It is what fuels smiles.A smile can spark change.Good change can foster the good in society. In the end, Green Mountain Elementary, helped with our most important smile which brought a good change to our lives and our family. Therefore, we feel, it isAn excellent school!

We have sent both of our daughters here. Our oldest went K-6 and our youngest is presently in 5th grade. Neither of our daughters had a bad teacher once. All of the teachers have been good to great. It is our neighborhood school and we have been fairly active with the school and I encourage everyone to go to their neighborhood school and be active in it! Your kids will thank you.

Compared to schools that my child went to last year, I am very surprised at the LACK of homework that is brought home every week. Sometimes it's just one page front and back of math and there's been many weeks where they don't even send homework home! This is for fourth grade. The computer homework gets old and repetitive and my child loses interest in it. I feel like the social activities could use some help as well. Not sure if we're going back next year, because our previous schools had some behavior problems but at least I never thought my child wasn't being challenged academically like at Green Mountain. Also my child had received awards and recognition for their academics at previous schools and so far at Green Mountain zilch! I would say they need some major improvement in motivating and rewarding students.

One star cause I cannot give any less! My daughter always loved school. During breaks and summer she would anticipate going to school. After going to Green Mountain she has become down and depressed. The kind of work she does at 6 years old is absolutely ridiculous! Talking about economics and doing equations...not to mention having to do 12 pages of homework and reading for 4 days. My high school kids don't even do this amount of homework, nor have they ever. By the time the homework is complete at night they have no time to be a kid! Its overkill on all of the work. Everyone is snobby and acts like they are better than the next. My child's teacher seems to not even like being a teacher by her comments.....saying she prefers the independent kids because they don't bother her as much. The class parties are boring and my daughter couldn't even hand out cupcakes for her birthday (not even with my help or the teacher) cause the teacher was complaining it could be a mess. During winter the sidewalks are barely shoveled and they just barely sprinkle salt/sand in time for school to start...we have slipped many of times! This school is a joke and my child will ABSOLUTELY not be returning!

This is my daughters first year at Green Mountain. She is in the first grade. I feel uncomfortable with the staff as they are all snobby and not welcoming at all. They have a fake presence about them. My daughters teacher complains about her work and having the kids come up to her and show her things as she prefers independent students who leave her alone. The homework is outrageous! 12 pages plus nightly reading for a four day span. My daughter does very well in school and gets good grades in all subjects but she is so frustrated with the amount of homework given! They only offer the art program to the 4,5,6 graders and and my daughter loves art, and they wouldn't offer a discounted or scholarships program for the dance class for those who needed it. Don't like this school at all!!!!

GMES is a small community that is very family oriented. My kids have been there for 6 years now, and the teachers are great. We have all made lifelong friends. I would not send my kids to school anywhere else.

My child is doing so well at GMES and his teacher Ms Moore is patient and frankly amazing. He's learning so much and I cannot say how much I appreciate Mrs Ivie and the entire staff! Great School!

We loved this school...Green Mountain is one of the best kept secrets in Lakewood. The teachers and staff have been superb! We moved out of state but are so fortunate to have been a part of this amazing school for several years.

We have been at this school going on 2 years now and I cannot imagine moving anywhere else. The children are polite, the parents are friendly and the teachers are wonderful. We have already established friendships I know will last a life time. My daughter is reading and writing well above her grade level, thanks to her Kindergarten teacher. I love it here!

I have been very disappointed overall with this school. The first thing I noticed was the cold feeling when I went into the front office. Just one person was friendly and warm. Since that time it has continued to have the same feeling. The principle does not respond to my e-mail concerns with any direct communication back to me. My son says she looks unhappy and doesn't respond when kids say Hello to her. However, my son doesn't want to leave his friends so I let it be. But if you are looking for a warm, inviting school, this is NOT the one to choose. Different leadership would likely change this.

Our homeschool is Foothills but the experience there was awful. My daughter has been at Green Mtn. for 2nd and 3rd grade and is in the special needs program (just wonderful) and mainstreamed into 3rd grade. I'm so pleased with this school the difference the staff has made in my daughter's life.

I couldn't be happier with this school! My daughter is in 1st grade and I feel like they know her both personally and academically. The teachers and leadership are always on the cutting edge of education. I am continually impressed with the hard work and motivation of the staff!
